“Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice mocked anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr as a coward on Sunday, hours after the radical leader threatened to declare war unless U.S. and Iraqi forces end a military crackdown on his followers.” Spencer Ackerman remarks, “So Sadr is a coward for making threats from Iran… and Condoleezza Rice is a stateswoman for blustering Sadr into making a move that carries the potential of killing American soldiers.” And VetVoice’s Brandon Friedman comments that this echoes Bush’s “Bring ‘em on” declaration.
Can we please get a new Secretary of State now? One who knows something about diplomacy?

April 20th, 2008 at 9:29 pmOpen mouth, insert expensive shoes.
April 20th, 2008 at 9:31 pmI also thought didn’t we already see that with Bring ‘em On. WTF is wrong with these people, it’s like they are 10 year-olds, but instead of pissing off the kids in the lunch room, you are pissing off a man with thousands of heavily armed militia.
The result in the first is you may lose your lunch money, in the second hundreds of US tropps may die. Jan 20, 2009 cannot come soon enough.
April 20th, 2008 at 9:31 pmShe has done more flipping damage than anyone–she was a disaster on the NSC and she then is rewarded the job of SOS. She isn’t worth the room she takes up.
There is one bit of silver lining–that huge article in the NYT’s today about those “faux talkinghead generals” is the most compelling reason yet to get the troops out of Iraq and also, to begin impeachment! I bet the nobody will mention that story tomorrow on TV. It is worth going over to the New York Times website and taking the time to read it in its entirety.
April 20th, 2008 at 9:32 pm“Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice mocked anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr as a coward on Sunday.”
Meanwhile back in crawford, her hus… president was showing his cod piece while 5 deferment pr…Dick, stood by. The gathering was a luncheon of especially brave patroits who shared their war stories. Amongst the invited was Bill Oliely, Richard Perle, Douglas Feith and a few dozen rethug notables who avoided military service.
April 20th, 2008 at 9:33 pmSadr can’t stop laughing at the comment by the unqualified Connie. She has been a joke since to joined the Bush Administration. No one World Leader pays attention to her. Even Putin made her wait for over an hour just for fun. The Middle East Leaders laugh at her for being the White House messenger for Dick Cheney. Now I loved it with the Saudi King said she just plays the piano.

April 20th, 2008 at 9:39 pmThat waste of skin is calling someone else a coward? Pul-ease.
April 20th, 2008 at 9:48 pmWow, I wonder if Sadr is peeing his pants? Rice can be a tough SOB when shopping at the markets in Baghdad, when she’s distracted from her main mission, photo-ops, tea, and handshakes–There will be hell to pay.

April 20th, 2008 at 9:52 pmGeneral Franks called Feith the Stupidiest F—g man in the whole world. I have to disagree with him. When George Bush said “Bring’em On” to all the terrorists around the world, those were the three dumbest words to ever be uttered in history. Feith, of course, is in second place.
Condi, in diplomacy you are a disgrace. Taunting Sadr, with your Bring em On attitude is not playing nice with others. Just because your boss has that attitude doesn’t make it right or the smart thing to do. You sit down and have a discussion, it’s called diplomacy 101. You don’t dare him into a fight, so that more of our soldiers are in harms way.
Parting thought Condi: (by Napoleon Hill)
War grows out of the desire of the individual to gain advantage at the expense of his fellow man.
Gee I wonder who that sounds like, I will give you one guess.

April 20th, 2008 at 9:57 pmlol Rhavas. Who is Al Sadr? Is he a Sunni fighting on behalf of Iran? Or a Shiite Al Kayduh? Or perhaps he’s U.S. military-funded Kurd, pretending to be a Shiite, taking cash from Al Kayduh, to kill Americans?

Yup! just two ways to see things. You are a deep thinking troll, Rhavas.
April 20th, 2008 at 10:00 pmMy displeasure with Secretary Rice’s comments are not that Sadr was being called a coward, but that the Secretary of State of the United States was the one doing it. And that is the kind of thing that leads people like Sadr to take up arms against our soldiers. Because of Secretary Rice’s comments, more US soldiers and marines will die. Like I said, Can we please get a new Secretary of State now? One who knows something about diplomacy?
April 20th, 2008 at 10:00 pmTrahan, get a new schtick. This one is sooooo boring.
April 20th, 2008 at 10:01 pmFrom the first link in the thread, which links to a Fox News.com article:
(beginning of second paragraph) “Rice, in the Iraqi capital to tout security gains and what she calls an emerging political consensus…”
(beginning of closing paragraph) “Before arriving in Baghdad, Rice told reporters traveling with her that she is not trying to make a point about security gains in Iraq by visiting now.”
Huh? Apparently the AP and Fux-with-the-News didn’t notice that her mission changed between the beginning and the end of the article. Nice “journalism.”

April 20th, 2008 at 10:28 pmRice doesn’t have to do the war fighting so she can just get in there and act all blustery and everything. But the truth is she works for a coward. A draft dodgin’ excuse making sorry lying turncoat who had the chance to be a real hero and sacrifice for his country in Vietnam. He had to politic and all so he just couldn’t make it to the war. Rice has no idea of the kind rat she’s workin’ for. But, she’ll want to be warm and comfortable after the Bush mob walks off so she’ll dummy up, not that that’s hard for her, and do the stuff that’ll make her boss proud. She’s already got blood on her hands but this kind of “diplomacy” will get gobs of more Americans and Iraqi citizens dead for sure. Good job Madaam Secretary!
April 20th, 2008 at 10:29 pmA better question is if you got killed would your mother cry? I’ll venture a guess. No.

Exactly. Back to being serious, and this really is serious: Condi is labelling as a coward the person whose cease-fire agreement had saved U.S. lives in Iraq. Al Sadr’s political followers are providing humanitarion aid to Iraqi citizens, as well. His followers and political power are growing, and the anti-U.S.-occupation sentiment is increasing. Condi is throwing a lit match into a powderkeg.

And the sad thing is that Bush & Company (this includes the idiot Condi) think that they can take him out or kill all his followers. But, all that’s going to happen is a lot more of our soldiers and Iraqi citizens are going to die and the percentage of Iraqis who hate us and want us out will go from the current 60% to 100%.

We are an unwanted army of occupation of a sovereign country and there are Iraqi citizens that will fight the U.S. to the death to rid their country of this oppression. If the U.S. were invaded and occupied, I would put up a fierce resistance against the invader just as many ordinary citizens of Iraq are doing. Many do not view us at the great liberator, they view the 104 acre American Embassy as a symbol that the U.S. intends to stay forever, and well we could if McCain should have his way…………When will the Bush Administration see reality?

On the contrary it is exactly the opposite, Bilbo. It is an understood fact that women have been trying to break the glass ceiling in every field for eons. If you don’t understand that fact then you need to talk to some oppressed women or perhaps some feminists, (and I claim to be a feminist.) Here you have a very intelligent woman who has risen to power and could be held in the highest esteem for doing so. Sadly she has chosen to “prove” that “women” are not “ready” to assume equality with “men”. Her actions have been disgraceful! I would never hold her up as an admirable model for my daughter to emulate.
And this goes doubly for black folks. We as Americans need to have powerful, positive Black role models to get past the racism that still exists in this country. She is an insult to both groups!
Frankly I’m surprised at your take on my post. Normally, you are very astute and on the mark. You should know me better than that. I have been posting here for years.
April 20th, 2008 at 10:38 pmMs. Rice, where was Kommander Kodpiece when he called for Iraqi insurgents to ‘Bring it on’?

We do not support him, you do. If we never invaded Iraq would anyone know who he was, would he have any power, would he be recruiting people by the hundreds, would he be a hero to many in the Arab world? The answer is plainly no, so it is those who supported this invasion who really support him.

Sadr will not want his honor challenged; he can’t appear to look weak in the eyes of his followers. If Condi was unsure if he was serious or not, the last thing you do is have that kind of attitude and taunt him. Especially by a woman; like I said did her IQ drop sharply when she landed in Iraq.

Apparently not. Although you’d think that Bush’s mistaken taunt would have stuck in Condi’s mind, since it was the only thing he ever admitted to regretting about his presidency.
April 20th, 2008 at 10:54 pmWhen Maliki sent his forces to Basra, where roughly 1,200 refused to fight, I said that this was the start of a final push against the Mahdi Army and that this was a diversionary strike to provide cover for an American push into Sadr City and it reminded me of Richard Nixon ordering an invasion of the Parrots Beak area of Cambodia. We all know how well that went. That set in motion events that led to Pol Pot taking over Cambodia and the famous killing fields.
Bush is just itching for a fight and thinks that he has enough manpower to crush the Madhi Army. And he does in a traditional military battle, but as we well know, that is now how the Mahdi Army will fight. Apparently Bush has calculated that it is worth it to turn Sadr City into another Fallujah. One would think that Bush would have included McCain in any deliberations of this magnitude but I doubt that Bush sees himself as the lame duck that he is.
It is also clear with first Cheney and now Rice going to Baghdad to direct these operations that Gates is now completely out of the picture. Why Gates would have resigned as President of Texas A&M to be humilitated by Bush in this manner is beyond me.

2. He is trying to help 41 save the dynasty’s reputation. He is 41s man.

“We were attacked from Afghanistan in 2001, and we are at war in Afghanistan today, in no small measure because of mistakes this government made–mistakes I among others made in the end game of the anti-Soviet war there some 20 years ago.”
