Colorado State Rep. Douglas Bruce (R) was barred from speaking at the House podium today after raging against a program to help foreign farm workers enter the U.S. legally. “We don’t need 5,000 more illiterate peasants in the state of Colorado,” Bruce “told the chamber to an audible gasp.” Earlier this year, Bruce kicked a photographer — and refused to apologize for it — for taking a picture of him during a prayer session in the state House.
I’ve said it once and i’ll say it again, NEVER trust anyone with two first names!
April 21st, 2008 at 8:15 pm“We don’t need 5,000 more illiterate peasants in the state of Colorado,” Bruce “told the chamber to an audible gasp.”
Why not , Bruce ?
Who else is going to vote for McShithead if not illiterate peasants and you fellow GOP piles of fecal matter ?
April 21st, 2008 at 8:15 pmBruce just insulted the GOP base.
Not to worry, Bruce — nobody wants to actually go to Colorado, anyway. Sentient beings just desire to go through it.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:17 pmAnybody know what this idiot’s district looks like? Wondering about his reelection chances in Nov.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:20 pmI wonder if this guy’s related to Neal Boortz?
April 21st, 2008 at 8:21 pmThere is a reason that Colorado’s population per square mile is only 37.5 better than MARS.
Drive through it once.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:24 pmC’mon down to New Mexico, we have about 14 per square mile.
I go up into Colorado to go fishing.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:28 pmNothing more.
Denver is one of the rudest places I have ever been.

Merlin
Bruce was never elected by a constituency ; 44 El Paso County Republicans picked Douglas Bruce to fill an open seat in the State House of Representatives.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:29 pmWonder where he got his book larnin’?
April 21st, 2008 at 8:38 pmMerlin,
April 21st, 2008 at 8:38 pmBruce’s District is centered on Colorado Springs which is fertile ground for wingnuts like him. Even at that, the State GOP comittee tried desperatly to prevent him winning the nomination for the open seat because they knew this was going to happen. It won’t be the last time that Bruce embaresses himself, the GOP or the State of Colorado where I live. Count on it.
The lesson here seems to be that if just a few more reverent elitist can be elected, they can simply beat up anyone and everyone that they disagree with.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:40 pmThats right McMetal. I forgot what the circumstances were surrounding that. It was the County Comittee El Paso County that inflicted this Nutjob on the State.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:40 pmThis from Wiki:
After kicking a Rocky Mountain News photographer on the day he was sworn in, Bruce became the first legislator in Colorado history to be formally censured; he was later removed from a House committee overseeing veterans affairs after refusing to sponsor a ceremonial resolution honoring veterans. He has announced his intention to run for a full term in November 2008 legislative elections.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:42 pmThanks, MCMetal & Jim Wolf359
The guy really seems like a nut job (from the Wiki entry.) Sorry to hear that there are enough wingnuts to probably keep him in office. That he was censured 6-0 by rethug leadership says how out of touch with reality he really is.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:47 pmLooks like Bruce needs anger management classes. And is Bruce and Tancredo separated at birth?
April 21st, 2008 at 8:51 pmRep. Terrance Carroll, D-Denver, said that as the “son of illiterate slaves who built this country” he found Bruce’s remark bigoted and said it may prompt an ethics investigation.
That sounds like a good start. I thought of another use for duct tape.. That would solve part of the problem.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:57 pm“Bruce kicked a photographer — and refused to apologize for it — for taking a picture of him during a prayer session in the state House.”
April 21st, 2008 at 9:01 pmso he was praying, and then he went and kicked a guy for taking his picture….who was he praying to? did jesus tell him to go kick someone? or are we lucky he just got done praying? cause otherwise he would have shot the guy?
nice real nice
I visited my son in Colorado and I was surprised as to how many immigrants I saw. But my son said Colorado has alot of building of homes, townhouses and businesses. The immigrants work hard for no benefits or injury protection. So the it’s cheap labor and better profit for companies and shareholders. I guess if Colorado and other States look to end employment for immigrants there’s always the way of the US history to full in those jobs. Slaves did a helluva job in building the US even the White House. Now the US did very well in the area of Economy with the Slaves keeping the fields. I know McCain remembers those profitable years and just might bring them back.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:02 pmFrom what I saw on the news tonight it may not stop at an ethics investigation for Bruce. Apparently, the State GOP maybe about to push the panic button.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:07 pm19: It’s not just McCain that wants to bring something like those days back, but everyone who supports illegal immigration. The latter group includes ThinkProgress itself.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:15 pmOh gosh… a clever troll has snuck in thru an open door.
Time ta flag, flag, ‘n flag again!
April 21st, 2008 at 9:17 pmWe’d be hard pressed to find an “illiterate peasant” more ignorant that this guy.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:23 pmIt sounds like Mr. Bruce checked his live brain cells and maturity at the door – but he did manage to bring his bigotry along. Disgraceful.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:37 pmWonder where he got his book larnin’?

He’s also the architect of TABOR here in Colorado.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:43 pmsik fux. that’s about all that can be said of it. jefferson’s ghost will surely haunt all their children.
April 21st, 2008 at 10:21 pmWEll, let’s take a test: Take one of those illiterate peasants and Douglas Bruce and hand them a passage of Calderón and give them a little quiz on it.
I’ll bet cash money that the Representative loudly protests his God-given right to be illiterate.
Ultima razon de reges.
April 21st, 2008 at 10:39 pm“We don’t need 5,000 more illiterate peasants in the state of Colorado”
…Well, that is what you get after your federal government supported all military coups in Latin America. Those general just sold Latin america’s resorces to giant international corporation. Many of which, North Americans. So, after decades of this abuse and exploitation, not to mention TORTURE (via School of The Americas, USA). we have this over population without any hope what so ever to have minimal decency, flooding your country… Instead supporting the latest movement toawrds social reforms, The United States continue to support Colobia’s criminal president Uribe. While Chavez, who wants to place some of the oil revenues in very needed social areas, the War Criminals in Washington tried a boched coup and continue to call him a ‘terrorist’. So, you will continue to get your masses of migrants. Until your government is restore to decency and starts to thing Globaly withou its criminal military complex. May the Force be with you!

I was glad to hear that Rep. Terrance Carroll, D-Denver said it might prompt an ethics investigation. But what other course does the State GOP have to stop or get rid of Douglas Bruce?? I’m curious…
April 21st, 2008 at 11:01 pmBruce is a small time Tommy “I’ll protect the border from them mexi….errrr terrorist” Tancrado. Both suffer from the little man syndrome. They are both all mouth, no brains, and people still vote for them. It must have something to do with the “R” after their names. Only illiterate peasant repuglicans would vote for them, they are told just vote for the guy with the “R”.

April 21st, 2008 at 11:23 pmWow. An intellectual match for Michele Bachmann. I think they could get together and produce children who would be too stupid to breathe.

The ignorant Elite, Colorado State Rep. Douglas Bruce(R), speaks…
.
April 22nd, 2008 at 1:33 amPure gold, I laughed heartily.
They’ll have their desert moat soon enough, against the “peasants.”
Meanwhile the dollar goes down and so many people work in the service industry on computers pushing numbers around. Menial work is tough but at least stuff gets done.
April 22nd, 2008 at 2:34 amLet’s just hope the fine people of Colorado send this knuckle scraper packing in November.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:32 amI HATE RACIST!
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:34 amSickening Indeed ……………
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:53 amLife-long Democrat…..I have NEVER voted Republican. But, on at least immigration, I totally agree with Bruce. We are supposed to pick the ‘brightest and best’ from the immigration
