Why pay thomas for his opinions ? Just invite his puppet master Scalia(?). Thomas hasn’t had an opinion since he’s b een on the supreme court of fools.

Ok, Johnjohn…. a few points of rebuttal:

“false outrage” nice of you to assign a level of truth to another persons opinion. (wasn’t aware you’d been appointed keeper of truth)

“Unproven allegations” the allegations were, in fact, proven albeit not in a court of law, (as formal legal charges were not brought) but certainly in the court of public opinion.

And, of course….you predictably trot out Bill Clinton. What is it about the Right Wing that must ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS bring Bill Clinton into a conversation? Notably when he’s not even remotely the subject?

It is as if you can’t have a reasoned discussion on the merits of a point of view with out “boogie man Bill” being foisted onto the page.

I note you didn’t bother to actually denounce Clarence Thomas’ actions, or offer a rebuttal to the charges leveled at him. Perhaps you agree with him and his view of women? You wouldn’t be the first GOP supporter who thinks women are fine, as long as they ‘know their place’….

It’s folks like you and your inane habit of dumbing down everyone who’s view you don’t agree with that made me stop supporting the GOP.

As for Thomas, the man at best is a cad, and has no business being at the UGA as a commencement speaker.

I can’t believe the false outrage! Could it be the objection has more to do with the conservative tilt of his opinions? Would all of you who express concern over the unproven allegations of sexual harrassment have the same opinion if it were BILL CLINTON who was asked to speak? I think not.

Many years ago, I had an interview with an EEOC employee soon after the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Clarence Thomas with Anita Hill testifying. (I was called in for a routine interview because my employer had had a checkered history.) At the end of the interview, I asked the EEOC employee, You work at EEOC, where Clarence Thomas and Anita Hill both worked. Tell me, who would your coworkers say was telling the truth, Clarence Thomas or Anita Hill?

The EEOC employee said “Anita Hill told the truth.”

This is a state university and its employees are accountable for these kinds of insensitive decisions and spending tax dollars. Who did this, why, and what possible statement can they hope to make? Anita Hill was lying? (Not my opinion, but many reich wingers think so.) Read John Dean’s book Broken Government for more on the confirmation of Thomas and many other lying judges. Somebody with a lot of power to spend a lot of money invited him. More likely, a committee of such somebodies did this in a secret meeting. I want names.
