In an April 13 New York Times magazine profile of MSNBC host Chris Matthews, Mark Leibovich noted that “sometimes during the commercial breaks” of MSNBC’s presidential primary coverage “Matthews will boast to” his colleague and fellow MSNBC host Keith Olbermann “of having restrained himself during the prior segment.” “And I reward him with a grape,” Olbermann said snarkily. During last night’s primary coverage, when Matthews started to get a little worked up, Olbermann offered a grape. “No, I’ve had enough grapes buddy,” Matthews replied. Watch it:
In the Times profile, Olbermann told Leibovich: “There is a sense at times that we are always joining Chris Matthews already in progress…and he has no idea when it stops and starts. My responsibility sometimes is to grab the wheel when he doesn’t hold it.”
Maybe if Tweety doesn’t piddle all over the anchor desk, Keith will give him a doggie biscuit, too.
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:35 pmI love KO, but sometimes his generic interaction with Tweety disappoints me.
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:46 pmIsn’t this a little bit like giving a fish to the dolphins and seals at Sea World, whenever they perform a desired behavior?
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:47 pmForget the grapes, use a rubber mallet, Keith…

Olbermann’s collegues aren’t getting any smarter, and the stress of dealings with controversies, including the successful debacle with Wal-Mart, would certainly lead me to a few drinks.
Lifesavers, Merlot, airheads, skittles, starburst, twix, whatever it takes to keep the great Keith Olbermann motivated and on the air. Throw it at him.
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:51 pmIt would be nice if Keith would call out Tweety on his BS once in awhile.

misshusseinmolly, at least the dolphins and seals can learn from the positive reinforcement, ’cause they’re smarter than Chris Matthews.
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:51 pmPoor Keith, all his shilling for Obama, is just going to get him fired..Tweety wil never put up with him, when he starts to rip McBush, if and when it gets down to Obama v McBush..
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:51 pmKeith, can you also open his eyes for him when he’s behind the wheel? Tell him where the turn signal and windshield wipers are?

April 23rd, 2008 at 2:56 pm2 liberals and 2 guys that try to stay neutral. All of them seem to want Obama elected at all cost. That’s fair.
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:59 pmI’m waiting for Exley to show up. You know how he is about Keith. ;)
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:02 pmCompletely off-topic, but I didn’t know where else to put this, since the ThinkFast thread pretty much lies in ruins. Please forgive me. At least it DOES have to do with the presidential race.
Two things from a local story today:
1) Former presidential candidate John Edward has thrown his support to Obama.
2) McCain has condemned the North Carolina GOP for a sleazy ad they plan to run in an effort to trash Obama AND both Democratic candidates for North Carolina Governor, who have both endorsed Obama. McCain appears to be taking the high road now, but let’s see how long that lasts. (BTW, the NCGOP plans to run the ad anyway, despite McCain’s request they pull it.)

It may be a while. Exley’s PC is currently tied up running another application.
Those orcs ain’t gonna kill themselves, you know.
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:10 pmoops — I misread. Edwards hasn’t endorsed anyone yet. It was one of his key advisers who is supporting Obama.
Sorry!

April 23rd, 2008 at 3:17 pmEveryone here call’s him tweety, I call him spitter….Don’t watch him, can’t stand the turd…Blessings
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:24 pmBless Keith! Without him, I think I’d go insane. ;o)

Well, I see you’re having trouble typing, but wait and watch….You’ll see how fast MSNBC goes from the Obama Network to the McBush Network, with Tweety as the main cheerleader…Keith will be gone…You’ve never seen Keith
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:30 pmrip McBush in Tweety’s presence, and you never will…
LOL.New trollie alert….

April 23rd, 2008 at 4:06 pmClues for sale on Ebay, cheap. Get some.
Since Keith recently signed a 4 year multi-million dollar contract with MSNBC I think that’s unlikely. As far as Keith’s interactions with Matthews – I’m fairly sure that they are under orders from the top to not disagree with each other on air. Next time they are in the same place, watch Keith roll his eyes when Matthews says something really dumb.

I expect this is what you are going to see with the McCain campaign. They will run particularly vile ads, not with McCain’s “I’m John McCain and I approve…” and then McCain will object. That way the damage gets done but his hands are clean (not!). It’s called plausible deniability.

I’m not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your math, there, VA Voter.
Olbermann, I think it’s fair to say, is “liberal.” That makes one.
None of the others are liberal, nor do they make much effort to conceal their bias. Matthews has repeatedly stated that he’s a McCain guy. Williams has a long history of tossing softball questions at Republican candidates and grilling Democratic ones. Tim Russert? Honestly, I think the guy is too dumb even to have a coherent political philosophy. But he does have a special gift for spewing anti-Obama propaganda.
In other words, you are demonstrably full of crap.

Right from the Rove Dirty Tricks playbook…
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:28 pmChris Matthews is a charicature of a bloated delusional self-caressing wannabe, a “Wannabe written up in journalism textbooks for centuries to come, wanna take my place beside Plato NOW, as I deserve, while I’m still alive, instead of just as a great historical figure for the future, depicted in glorious marble statues all over the world, statues to be unearthed and wondered at in the year 6,000,000.”
He’s a narcissist, in short. Super-common breed of unbearable s.o.b. Narcissists are people who can’t see “charicatures” in the mirror.
He is so over-swollen, and such a freaking girl. He’s me when I was 8…except I didn’t spit copiously when I talked (I’d outgrown it by then).
Olbermann needs to go ahead and dispense with this blow-hard. It will be child’s play for Keith when it finally goes down.
God, how I wish it could be soon.
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:35 pmChris Matthews will run for the senate in a couple years and it will be as a Republican. It will be poetic justice to see all the stupid crap he spits out used against him in campaign ads.
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:53 pmReally? I thought YOU had first place all sewed up.

April 23rd, 2008 at 5:17 pmI was a long time viewer of ‘Countdown’ until Keith went ga ga for Sen Obama and his bias started showing.
April 23rd, 2008 at 5:21 pmAs far as Chrissy, the last time I watched him was the day he sucked up to Ann Coulter.
I’m down to Dan Abrams on that network. Wish me luck.
Poor Keith, I do pity the guy, having to work with Chris Matthews. His four year deal included duty and hazard pay.
April 23rd, 2008 at 6:13 pmThe mind numbing dialogue coming out of Chris’s mouth on a daily basis constitutes hazardous working conditions.
