Rove Watch Clock: 77 Days Later, Fox Still Refuses To Disclose Rove’s Ties To McCain»

On Feb. 4, Fox News began promoting former White House adviser Karl Rove as its newest contributor. On Feb. 5, Rove made his first appearance in his new job, providing Super Tuesday analysis. Since that time, Fox has refused to disclose that Rove has been described as an informal adviser to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and reportedly provided electoral maps to the campaign.

Once again, Rove’s ties to McCain went undisclosed during last night’s Pennsylvania primary coverage. Throughout the night, he was introduced as a “very frustrated Karl Rove,” a “very happy Karl Rove,” and “Fox News political analyst Karl Rove.”

During this time, he was free to criticize Barack Obama (”His personal instincts don’t put him in synch with these people”), Hillary Clinton (”Now we’re starting to see doubts on Barack Obama’s supporter’s part about Clinton”), and the Democratic party generally (”First of all the Democrat rules are so messed up it’s impossible for somebody to secure the nomination relatively early in the process”).

Coincidentally, Rove was also able pump McCain’s strategy, which the senator shared with Rove during a recent “private gathering.” Watch it:

In a Washington Post chat on Monday, media reporter Howard Kurtz criticized Fox’s lack of disclosure, saying that Rove is “a maxed-out donor to McCain, and Fox should mention that when he’s on.”

Yesterday marked the 77th day that Fox refused to mention Rove’s ties to the McCain campaign. Starting today, ThinkProgress is starting its Rove Watch clock, modeled after Fox’s own Obama Watch clock. Fox News, when are you going to come clean on Rove’s conflict-of-interest?

  1. Keltoi Says:

McCain is the Republican candidate….is there anyone, anywhere in this world who doesn’t think Karl Rove is going to support the Republican candidate?

  2. Lisa FTW Says:

faux news can’t “come clean” when they are just as dirty as the rotten, anti-American administration they serve….

  3. MCMetal Says:

    Conflict of interest ?

There is no such thing as far as the GOP goes ; it’s all about the Republican political party and the hell with everyone else……….

  4. raynman Says:

Let’s be honest here. If there’s anyone who actually expects Fox to be accountible to the public for their actions….

Is there gonna’ be a time or a place where the miserable pieces of crap at FAUX Comedy Channel and Turd Blossom himself will ever admit to it instead of being typically deceptive and dishonest ?

Not a chance in hell ……….Scumbags never do.

Or, to Fox News, grounds for a bonus.

  7. NOLIESPLEASE Says:

If Fox or Rove wont tell us, lets just look for shit on Roves pecker or McCain walking a little funny to his next news conferance. That will prove our theory. So when ever Rove goes to a public bathroom, politely look over and check for any crap stain on the pecker and ask how John is doing.

  8. misshusseinmolly Says:

Probably because Fox already has so much bias, Rove’s bias hardly stands out…

    Just business as usual ……………..

“Rove was also able pimp McCain’s strategy, which the senator shared with Rove during a recent “private gathering.”

    There, fixed that right up!

  11. Peter C Says:

I think I’m glad to have Rove on Fox. Rove is a symbol of all that is wrong with our nation. Fox is a symbol of all that is wrong with our nation. Where else would he be? I hope he drives them to the obscurity they so richly deserve.

Everything that either Rove or Fox does is in aid of the Republicans and McCain.

What we need to hone in on is who benefits from everything that the Republicans do. The answer is not the American public.

Did the “guest list” include luminaries such as Jeff Gannon , Ted Haggard , Mark Foley and Larry Craig ?

  13. Shayne Says:

If Fox News was to start with this disclosure thing on ANY topic the whole house of cards might start to collapse. Habitual liars don’t ever tell the truth for just that reason, they have to stay on script so they don’t lose their place.

  14. Shayne Says:

And thanks TP for that array of pasty white men, now I can save money on lunch.

  15. Peter C Says:

When conservatives are in charge of the media you get Fox News, Rove, Limbaugh, Survivor, the Bachelor, and ‘Who Wants to be a Millionare’.

When liberals are in charge of the media, you get Sesame Street, Masterpiece Theatre and the McNeil-Lehrer Report.

  16. L. Hussein Annie Says:

Oh, crap. If I had held my breath waiting for FOCKED NEWTS to tell the truth, I’d have died years ago.

  17. A Patriot Acting Says:

Fox come clean???!!! Sounds like an exercise in futility. You keep wiping away the sh1t…wiping and wiping…and then you realize that that’s all there ever was…SH1T!
Sh1t under the sh1t. Sh1t in O’Reilley’s head…sh1t scrolling across the bottom of the screen. Rupert Murdoch’s sh1t-stained fingerprints all over their paychecks. Roger Ale’s sh1t all over Dooley’s nose! All sh1t all day! 24/7! Watch our commercials and buy some more sh1t so we can show you more sh1t! I’m sorry for ranting. In all honesty it’s not ALL sh1t. They also have alot of criminals and bedbugs too!

  18. oldtree Says:

What about his ties to Hillary’s campaign? Let’s get it all out there in the sunlight

  19. Keith Says:

Shayne, as a pasty white man, I resemble that remark. Also, some of my best friends are pasty white men.

Keltoi, there is a difference between “supports” and “works for”. You should know this.

  20. GeeDubs Says:

You REALLY expect FOX Noise to be honest about this? Who are you ****ing kidding? They will NEVER disclose this, not EVER!

  21. 5th Estate Says:

    Rove:

”Now we’re starting to see doubts on Barack Obama’s supporter’s part about Clinton”.

WTF? Obama supporters are beggining to have doubts about Clinton?!!

Ummm..didn’t Obama supporters have doubts about Clinton from the get-go?

Speaking as a pretty darn dedicated Clinton supporter myself (I gave her $1000, though that was for 2006–not a penny since) I HAVE MY DOUBTS ABOUT CLINTON!

The veanl, stupid and partisan get rewarded with welfare and bennies whilst even the ordiary Republican faithful get screwed and lied-to by their own party and operatives, let-alone the rest of us.

“Regime change” can’t happen soon enough.

  22. theswan Says:

“Info”mation consolidation is all important in the run up to a new type of November election. Karl carries out his part of the deal while Rupert works behind the scene buying all the outlets in our new soviet style nation. So called “Justice” will meter out election results based on hearsay. The ecomony is already on a tare to become a shambles as industry and infarstructure begin a collapse not seen since Gorbechev left home. America is taking on a look as never before.
    Where is the outrage?

  23. RUCerious Says:

Shayne ~ now I can save money on lunch.

That’s wierd, I had to eat my lunch twice!

  24. gummitch Says:

I expect Rove and FoxNews to come clean right about the same time that Andrea Mitchell and NBC regularly remind viewers that Alan Greenspan is her husband. The entire DC politico/pundit crowd is so entirely inbred and incestuous that this business with Rove is par for the course. And like Keltoi said, who the hell would expect objectivity from Rove anyway? Anyone who consider his commentary to be useful information is already a 19%er.

  25. regular_joe Says:

Fox Still Refuses To Disclose Rove’s Ties To McCain…

First, integrity only applies to real journalists, and Fox isn’t exactly in the “journalism” business.

Second, it is highly unlikely that Fox would bother to ask Rove about his ties To McSame campaign. Hell, they’re ALL working for the McSame campaign in one way or another.

Third, it is even less likely that Rove would tell Fox — or anyone else for that matter — the truth about his ties to McCain. It’s not like Rove has a reputation for honesty, is it?

Rove is a professional liar. Lying is his stock and trade. To expect the truth from Rove — or anyone who employs him — is expecting too much, I fear.

However, you can always tell when Rove is lying: his lips are moving.

  26. Prytania Says:

There is no proof provided to show that Rove is an adviser for Mc Cain. If he was a PAID consultant, it would have made the news by now. There is no conflict of interest until it can be proven he is being paid by Mc Cain for his services. Rove is a very smart man. Just ask Gore and Kerry.

  27. dasm Says:

Fox - secretive, smearing liars. They hide the truth. We all know it. Only their zombie audience seems to continue to drool over them.

  28. techsong Says:

Rove talking to McCain at a “private gathering” is basicly an admission that he is consulting him. Plain and simple. What Rove stated in the clip is probably what he took him, not what McCain said. The lie is told as a statement, but the source and destination are reversed. That’s how he operates.

  29. regular_joe Says:

27: Prytania Says: Rove is a very smart man.

    WRONG!

Foisting a George W. Bush on America (and the world) was NOT A SMART THING TO DO, no matter how you look at it.

Either Gore or Kerry would have been decent, if not good, presidents. OTOH, George Bush will go down in history as the worst president ever. Decades from now, we’ll still be cleaning up the mess and repairing the damage wrought by George Bush.

Just because you can do a thing, e.g. get a moron “elected” POTUS, doesn’t mean you should do it or that it is a smart thing to do. I suggest that, for all of Rove’s gifts, he’s not a very smart man — just an evil one.
