Yesterday, ThinkProgress reported that controversial pastor John Hagee — whose endorsement Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) had said he was “glad to have” — had repeated in a recent radio interview his contention that Hurricane Katrina was punishment to New Orleans for hosting a gay pride parade. On his campaign bus today, McCain responded to Hagee’s comments, calling them “nonsense” at least “eight times”:
It’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense. I dont have anything additional to say. It’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, I don’t have anything more to say…it’s nonsense. I reject it categorically.
McCain has now said that he “categorically” rejects Hagee’s comments, but is he still “glad” to have his endorsement?

Typical MSM ; get a less than insightful answer , and just let McStupid move along merrily ……………….
April 24th, 2008 at 3:33 pmI agree, Hagee IS nonsense.
April 24th, 2008 at 3:37 pmWow, that senile old coot sure repeats himself a lot.
April 24th, 2008 at 3:38 pmUnless he’s flip-flopping.
OK, at least after repeated prodding, McCain has rejected Hagee’s remarks regarding Katrina. I believe McCain has also rejected Hagee’s remarks regarding the Catholic church. And he has rejected Hagee’s anti-Muslim remarks. In fact, McCain has claimed that he rejects all “anti-anything” remarks.
Maybe it would just be more efficient if McCain would give us a list of Hagee’s positions that he DOES agree with? Or at least SOMETHING that justifies McCain’s delight in having Hagee’s endorsement?
April 24th, 2008 at 3:40 pmSo, John McFlipFlop, you deliberately sought out the endorsement of someone you now think is spouting nonsense?
And you think we should vote for you for President?
Hahahahahaha
Maybe you are as stupid as Bush…..
April 24th, 2008 at 3:42 pm…but is he still “glad” to have his endorsement?
Well, sure. He didn’t say Hagee’s endorsement was nonsense. McCain still wants the votes of all those fundies who think God punished the queers by flooding out the darkies.
April 24th, 2008 at 3:42 pmIt’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense. I dont have anything additional to say. It’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, I don’t have anything more to say…it’s nonsense. I reject it categorically.
As I stated earlier in another thread, I cannot bear the thought of another round of this brand of eloquence.
April 24th, 2008 at 3:43 pmAnd that is exactly the types of responses the American people and the planet will get if McSame wins the WH. When the direction of the conversation goes against his talking points, he gets angry and defensive. “I don’t care what I said, listen to me!” It’s going to be like getting yelled at by your drunken uncle. Only the drunken uncle would make more sense than McSame.
April 24th, 2008 at 3:44 pmHis acceptance of Hagee’s endorsement, seeing as how he disavows so much of Hagee’s ‘nonsense’ is

Hey, Jeb!
April 24th, 2008 at 3:49 pmSpeaking of religious zealots, take Hagee…please!

Dude is very good at having it both ways!
April 24th, 2008 at 3:51 pmAnd what, I wonder, will the Liberal Media do with this? Well, I, for one, won’t be holding my breath. Pressing stories of the latest Obama outrage (he knows someone else who knew someone who did something really, really bad!!!) and how Hillary’s really, really close to doing something can, and must, occupy the people’s attention (look, Shiney!). I just hope that whoever runs agains McInsane remembers this insanity. Remembers, remembers, remembers, remembers, Remembers!

Does mccranky not wear a flag lapel pin because he hates america?
Does mccranky wish he hadn’t been a straight talker in mi when he told folks that their jobs are gone and they’re not comming back?
When will the MSM ask these questions of mccranky?

April 24th, 2008 at 4:01 pmWell said Leporello. You have to wonder, why the “Liberal Media” seems to have a rooting interest in McCain.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:01 pmTypical McC. When he doesn’t want to talk about something, he pretends he’s about to throw a tantrum, and everybody backs off. Come on, Fourth Estate, DO YOUR JOBS!
April 24th, 2008 at 4:01 pmmaybe he was on the verge of a temper tantrum and repeating himself like an idiot is how he keeps it under control.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:06 pmit’s probably on the advice of his Reich wing advisors.
Clearly McCain’s response had the desired effect. The fear of McCain hitting them probably stopped the reporters from asking a follow up.

April 24th, 2008 at 4:09 pmTo all the trolls bringing up the retired Rev. Wright - Do a little research first. It shouldn’t be too hard to find some unedited transcripts of his sermons. BTW, did you know Wright used to be a marine? Why do you hate the troops?
April 24th, 2008 at 4:12 pmHe seems almost incapable of reading from prepared text, and when faced to speak impromptu McNonsense comes up with this.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:12 pmThis would be our representative to the world?
Donkeyface: Ask Rev Jeremiah Wright what he thinks about gays…at 4:05 pm
possibly he does not approve…so what?
but a fairer question would be to ask if Rev Wright thinks New Orleans was drowned because the city was set to host a gay pride parade, and that God stepped in to prevent it.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:14 pmI see the spin coming. Is it nonsense that Hagee thinks Katrina was retribution from God or is it nonsense that McCain is forced to make a statement?
Saying “It’s nonsense” eight times completes the difficult-to-execute flying quadruple in your face flip-flop
April 24th, 2008 at 4:17 pmWright and Hagee aren’t even in the same LEAGUE when it comes to batshit crazy.
Hagee is a filthy rich rightwing Christofascist nutjob who has made statements that makes Rev. Wright’s “It won’t be ‘God bless America’, it will be ‘God damn America’” pale in comparison.
But evidently Hagee’s just peachy with the reichwing. Double standards, anyone?
April 24th, 2008 at 4:19 pmDonkeyface Says:
Ask Rev Jeremiah Wright what he thinks about gays.
Why AssFace? Does Rev. Wright think God flooded out the black people in New Orleans in order to punish gay people?
April 24th, 2008 at 4:23 pmI understand why everyone should dismiss Hagee as nothing but a hateful coward of a man who hides behing God. But I cannot understand why Rev. Wright gets a pass for the same. Pure party politics.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:25 pmTypical of the wingnuts to evade responsibility by bringing up Rev. Wright, who spoke the truth, and was a marine! You poor idiots are just making y8ourselves look weaker.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:27 pm“I understand why everyone should dismiss Hagee as nothing but a hateful coward of a man who hides behing God. But I cannot understand why Rev. Wright gets a pass for the same. Pure party politics.”
what did Wright say that you disagree with? And, you ignorant liar, Wright did not get a pass.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:28 pmPrytania, is that all y8ou have? Lies and misrepresentations? No wonder your old traitor is going to lose in a landslide.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:29 pmDon’t the two of them look like a fun couple?
By the way, where are their hand…holding each others….well, you know.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:30 pmActually Rev. Wright and the UCC in general have been very progressive on the issue of gay rights. It’s an inclusive ministry.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:31 pmThe difference between the associations and endorsements of the two pastors is as different as their opinions.
Whereas Obama stands by his pastor DESPITE some of the more controversial things he has said, McCain sought the endorsement of Hagee BECAUSE of the controversial things he has said.
So, where Obama stands by his friend and accepts his endorsement amidst the right’s hysteria about some cherry-picked sermons, McCain caves to the same hysterical right and actively seeks the endorsement of a stranger whose every utterance seems designed to out-crazy everything what has crazied before.
Who is the straight shooter?
It isn’t “nonsense”, it’s hate speech. There’s a difference.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:34 pmL. Hussein Annie Says:
But evidently Hagee’s just peachy with the reichwing. Double standards, anyone?
Sorry, Annie, you know I love you, but trying to hang Hagee around McCain’s neck while exonerating Obama from his association with Wright is the definition of a double standard. I am not saying you in particular have done that, but that is the fire you play with by saying “Oh, Hagee is worse than Wright”. That may be so - they are both freaks IMHO - but the depth of Obama’s 20 association with Wright dwarfs Hagee’s endorsement of McCain.
Beware this line of attack. I wish both candidates would be judged on what they personally have said and nothing else.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:37 pmKeltoi pulls the same puerile, sophmoric shit as the rest of the wingnut idiot brigade. Wright did nothing that can be compared with the hateful crap the Hagee spewed. Nothing whatsoever. if you choose to take wright’s remarks out of context, or blindly follow your idiot leaders Rush and Sean Coward, so be it. But there is no comparison, and obama did, in fact, reject the statements of Wright’s that he thought went over the line. So you’re wrong on all counts, as usual. And McCain continues to try to have it both ways, like a typical double-talking republican liar.

Obama has repudiated Rev. Wright’s remarks. He has disassociated himself with Rev. Wright. Rev. Wright is no longer a part of Obama’s campaign. Rev. Wright has retired from the pulpit of Obama’s church.
What else does Obama have to do? Shoot him in the head? What??
MCCAIN ACTIVELY CHASED AFTER HAGEE’S ENDORSEMENT.

Nice try. McCain called Hagees comments nonsense 8 times. Obama said he can no more disown Wright than he can the whole black community. It is precisely the same thing, and arguing about matter of degree is pissing in the wind as far as political realities go.
Repeat: Wright and Hagee are both freaks. Trying to say one is more a freak than another totally misses the point. Obama has not said “God D–m America”, and McCain has not said “God hates Gays.” I like Obama, a lot, and I am telling you this whole guilt by association thing is not a game he wants to play. Trust me.
BTW, calling people names is the definition of puerile and sophmoric, you should try to avoid it.
April 24th, 2008 at 5:04 pmAnd, as the REpubs & Fox crew should keep demanding of McCain– Do you really mean it? By categorically, do you realize you are not distancing yourself from Hagee’s comments? Since you sought his endorsement, why do you now say he is nonsense? Are you a liar? Do you have no honesty? And these attacks & questions should go on for weeks, every day, all day. Etc.
I mean, they attack all the Democrats, Obama in particular, even when they denounce supporters, so let’s watch them attack Hagee & McCain!
Hmm…no, I don’t think that will ever happen. They are unfair, and certainly unbalanced.

Really? Is that how you interpret the words “I can no more disown Rev. Wright than I can the Black community”? I have a copy of that speech on my coffee table - he does not disassociate himself from Wright, only from Wright’s comments.
As far as McCain seeking Hagees endorsement, how does that stack up against 20 years of sermons, baptizing your children, marrying you, worst of all letting your children listen to that?
Do you notice Obama himself never brings up McCain and Hagee? Why do you think that is? If you want Wright and William Ayers to become part of the campaign, by all means highlight Nutjob Hagee. But O himself is too smart to do it.

George Stephanopolous and other keep asking John McCain the wrong question about Hagee. He should have asked:
Do you agree with Pastor John Hagee that war with Iran is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy?
In February, you shared a stage with Pastor John Hagee and said you were “very proud” to have his endorsement. You also called the Reverend Rod Parsley, a man who said of Islam “America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion destroyed”, your “spiritual guide.” Do you believe America’s mission is to destroy Islam? Do you join Pastor Hagee in believing the United States must attack Iran to fulfill the biblical prophecy of Armageddon in Israel in which 144,000 Jews will be converted to Christianity and the rest killed? Is that why you joked about “bomb bomb Iran?” If not, why will you not renounce the support of Hagee and Parsley?
For this and others questions the media won’t ask Mr. Straight Talk, see:

April 24th, 2008 at 5:24 pmI listened to the FULL clip of what he said, and I happen to agree with Rev. Wright - God will damn America for what George Bush and his neocons have done.
Does that mean that I hate America? Keltoi, do you HONESTLY think that Rev. Wright hates America? If you do, you’re much more of a credulous fool than I took you for.
The reich has taken to using a few clips out of this man’s TWENTY YEARS of sermons — and you are willing to condemn Rev. Wright - who proved his patriotism serving his country in the Marines for years - on the basis of 3 or 4 clips taken completely out of context?
I gave you more credit than that, Keltoi. Evidently, I was wrong.
I thought better of you. Silly me.

Let’s see…
When your Friends read some of your posts they no doubt think, “Jeez, that comment’s weird and kinda made you sound like a nutjob… but I know you Keltoi, I love you Keltoi and while I might disagree with that particular comment I could never disown you completely.”
But what if I, in an effort to appear cooler to a group of Right-wing whackjobs, decide that I’ll start letting everyone know that all the worst Trolls on TP are my very best friends. And then, when some one calls me out for a post that one of my new “friends” has written that is so bananna-smokingly crazy that I get a headache just reading it… I just say, “Well I don’t agree with EVERYTHING that they write but I am super happy that they’re my best friend and biggest supporter!”
Do you see how your friend knows you and knows that your comments have been taken out of context and how I am just cynically using a stranger to appeal to more strangers?
Whose judgment would you question now?

April 24th, 2008 at 6:05 pmSo we should judge McCain by his association with Renzi? What about the Keating five?
April 24th, 2008 at 6:22 pmLet us review.
Rev. Wright works within the framework of the UCC and is subject to peer review. After perusing just about everything I could find, about Rev. Wright, I came up with the same 30 seconds of, expertly and maliciously edited, video in the negative column. When the video is viewed in context it becomes far less “negative”.
Pastor Hagee formed his own church/denomination which reflects his personal interpretation of scripture. No peer review. He’s been implicated in financial scandals. He has devoted books to the subject of eliminating Islam. Repeatedly calls the Catholic Church the “great whore”. Blames Katrina on the gays. Calls for preemptive strikes on Iran and other Muslim nations. Calls unconditional military support for Israel, including attacking those who threaten Israel, “God’s foreign policy” while regretting that all the Jews are going to Hell. Tells his congregation, including young children, that they MUST accept Jesus as their Lord and Master, or, burn in Hell forever. Has been widely known for years as a hateful radical who will do everything in his power to hasten the Rapture. I have yet to see a positive comment from anyone who isn’t part of his congregation or seeking his endorsement.
Conclusion? I wouldn’t ever trust John Hagee around kids, weapons, or my wallet. On the other hand, I would trust Rev.Wright with power of attorney, or the care of children, without hesitation.
