A new USA Today/Gallup poll found that 63 percent of Americans say “the United States made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq, a new high mark by one percentage point.” Gallup notes that “majority opposition to the Iraq war is basically cemented.”

Gallup adds, “The new high in Iraq war opposition is also notable because it is the highest ‘mistake’ percentage Gallup has ever measured for an active war involving the United States — surpassing by two points the 61% who said the Vietnam War was a mistake in May 1971.” (HT: Dan Froomkin)

Maybe the kool-aid is wearing off?
April 24th, 2008 at 6:53 pmSuck it, warmongers.
Support the troops — get them home.

April 24th, 2008 at 7:02 pmWhat does a majority mean in this country anymore?
April 24th, 2008 at 7:13 pmWell at least 23% were with me on this way back then, you know 2 trillions dollars ago.
And to think, we still have 36% that are so stupid as to not see what reality is.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:16 pmSlightly OT, but it falls under Corrupt Establishment as this thread covers:
“The Speaker of the House of Representatives on Thursday called on the White House to temporarily stop sending crude oil into the nation’s emergency stockpile.”
So, why is our beloved government buying oil at the top of the market? Are they trying to keep prices high?
Will we have another Teapot Dome scandal?
Stay tuned, boys and girls.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:21 pmWhile working at the polls here in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, I couldn’t help wondering which of the people who passed through those doors were part of the 37% who STILL think this war was NOT a mistake!
PEACE

They were the ones with Huckabee, GWB and/or McCain bumper stickers on their trucks…

Because they work for the oil companies.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:40 pmIt is about time more people woke up to the reality of this administration and their war. I wonder if it was the lose of their job, or home or maybe, people are starting to come out of the stupor they have been in for 7 1/2 years.
Better late than never to start caring about this country and the men and woman who have sacrified their lives for it. Hopefully, the other 37% stop watching Fox News, CNN and get on the internet to find out the facts they have been missing.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:45 pm#5 Buckie Boy,
Right on target!!!
This happened with Vietnam too!!
April 24th, 2008 at 7:48 pmYou don’t have to be a genius to see which way this chart is heading, and has been for a while. Maybe there is hope for this country!
April 24th, 2008 at 8:14 pmIt’s no doubt the fault of the librul media.
April 24th, 2008 at 8:24 pmoops our bad…that’s a darn shame about all them dead and maimed people, and the destroyed country; no ones to blame though and we’ll surely try a little better next time.
April 24th, 2008 at 9:37 pm.
The frightening aspect of the study is, 37% of the population support the Iraqi war??
April 25th, 2008 at 12:00 amThere’s a graph that accompanies this story. Who the warmongers were who supported the invasion is show clearly, along with the proportion of the population that represented.
An opinion based on about 12 months worth of theoretical consequences portrayed to the US public. A proportion that hasn’t been matched yet by 5 years of the non-theoretical, unmitigated and exponentially expanding disaster Iraq has become.
Yeah, those warmongers have really been showed haven’t they.
What comes closer to this in terms of public opinion is the same 70s approval level the public had for removing Saddam back in 1998 when that was authorised as standing US policy the first time.
April 25th, 2008 at 12:29 amceltic cynic, if you can tell when the market has reached its peak in advance, I wish you’d tell the rest of us. You’ll make us all billionaires, and we can be like George Soros.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:14 amInteresting that it took a couple of years for a majority of American to wake up. Still 63% means that there are a lot of ignorant (willful or otherwise)Americans out there -

Are you familiar with what the Teapot Dome scandal involved? I’m sorry to tell you this, but the Bush administration’s everyday behavior consists of an endless succession of exactly what happened in the Teapot Dome scandal. That episode has become the archetype of executive branch corruption, yet it is standard operating procedure for Bush and Cheney. We’re way past Teapot Dome, and more into the area of how Hermann Goering amassed his art collection.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:11 amRecord high 63 percent say U.S. made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq.»
Gee, ya think?
April 25th, 2008 at 11:33 amThe 37% who are in agreement with this war are the ones making money off it!
April 25th, 2008 at 12:37 pm63% ? Wow, welcome to the party. Better late than never I guess. As one who thought from the outset that the buildup to this war and the subsequent invasion was a scam, I must say that it looks as though people are coming back from the dark side a little too late. Part of the problem is that people still believe that the media tells them what they need to know and not what they want you to know. The other part is just blood lust and an appetite for war! If the US is going to attack someone, they must’ve deserved it, is the final part. America always right, if you disagree, we’ll turn your country into a parking lot. Woohoo! Americaaaa F_ck Yeah!
Hell,meet handbasket, handbasket, hell.
April 25th, 2008 at 1:12 pmAs one who thought from the outset that the buildup to this war and the subsequent invasion was a scam,…
April 25th, 2008 at 2:00 pmYou and Chris Matthews among others…
“The 37% who are in agreement with this war are the ones making money off it!”
And the other 63% are the ones paying the costs. Ya’ll weren’t planning on retirement or sending your kids to college, were you? If so, maybe the “mistake” is that you’re still living here.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:06 pmA new USA Today/Gallup poll found that 63 percent of Americans say “the United States made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq, a new high mark by one percentage point.”—It’s hard to believe 37% of Americans still to this day think we needed this war? With pro-war numbers as high as 37% the war drums will beat long after Obama is elected.
