On the campaign trail yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said he’ll “do everything” in his power and bring “every pressure to bear” in order to stop the North Carolina Republican party from running an attack ad featuring Sen. Barack Obama’s pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. But the chairwoman of the North Carolina GOP, Linda Daves, told NPR yesterday that McCain has not done all he could. According to Daves, she hasn’t even spoken to McCain:
BLOCK: Linda Daves, have you had a conversation with John McCain about this?
DAVES: Oh, no, I have not. I have spoken with his campaign staff, however. And — but I did get an e-mail letter from them on his behalf.

Ooooh, those swift boaters - you just can’t control them.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:10 pmLike Preacher Haggee.
Don’t blame the senile old coot - you’ll only piss him off.
I’ll do everything in my power… except anything having to do with actually doing anything….
April 25th, 2008 at 2:10 pmWhat a fraud.
You’ll also notice that the other republican candidate Ms. Clinton has had no response to the ad.
Shameful.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:13 pmWhat really pisses me off about this NC ad is that the news stations, especially the cable stations, are playing it over and over and over again like they did with the cherry-picked Wright statements. There is nothing “fair and balanced” about any of the stations and that includes MSNBC. They have made sure that not only the people in NC get to see the ad, the entire nation gets to see the ad. The right wing must be thoroughly delighted with the media doing their dirty work for them.
On the other hand, as Keith pointed out last night on Countdown, this doesn’t say much about McCain’s leadership skills if he can’t convince a small party group in NC to not run the ad.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:19 pmI don’t believe she is taking calls from anyone now. Her phones may be jammed. She may have the vapors.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:21 pmYet another McCorpse lip-service jerkoff. Does anyone take this bozo seriously?
April 25th, 2008 at 2:25 pmDidn’t he claim he was going to send an e-mail?
April 25th, 2008 at 2:26 pmThat will show those guys!
Wait until he decides to use that tactic with Syria. He might resort to serious steps, like using the frowning face sign.
And the uneducated portion of American people will still believe this crap because they are easy prey to the conservative propaganda machine.
Local churches are spreading the propaganda that Obama is secretly a radical muslim hell bent on destroying the USA.
28% of America are complete morons.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:29 pmOf course not. He doesn’t actually want to stop the ad. He only wants to be seen saying it.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:32 pmThat ad is nonsense, nonsense, nonsense, nonsense, I tell you, nonsense, nonsense, nonsense, nonsense!
April 25th, 2008 at 2:33 pmMy friends, I’ll say anything to get elected. I’ll do anything I want, but I’ll say anything to get elected.
Hey, McSenile, how about you start with explaining why you never have time to vote on any legislation? Then you can go into depth on why a racist bigot like Hagee supports you? Next, you could explain why you left a disabled, faithful wife for a rich, drug-addled fake blonde?
That would be a start…
April 25th, 2008 at 2:37 pmOf course he can’t actually “call” Ms. Daves. Then she might feel compelled to actually “stop” running the ad.
In the meantime, thanks to the MSM the entire country has seen the ad and not just the folks of NC.

Oh, I think the GOP here in NC knows what “wink, wink, nudge, nudge” means. McCain may be using his leadership skills here in ways other than what the media are reporting.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:38 pmBTW, watch Pastor Wright on Bill Moyers tonight…it’ll be the only truth about this man the media has run yet.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:38 pmha! it was all part of the plan! surely no one’s fooled by this…
“hey, johniie, we’re gonna run this ad and you publicly “condemn” it,
*wink wink* , and it’s all good…”
“shure… shure… my friends…”

So far, WRAL here in Raleigh (the local CBS affiliate) and WSOC in Charlotte (their local ABC affiliate) have declined to run the ad. There may be more stations I am unaware of.
The general manager of WRAL said they nixed the ad on the basis that it was inflammatory, and they came to that decision BEFORE McCain made his request. But he said the McCain request solidified their decision.
April 25th, 2008 at 3:03 pmNext, they’ll pay the theaters to start playing 24 hour around the clock showings of “Birth of a Nation”…
April 25th, 2008 at 4:06 pmObama Plans May General Election Organizing Launch
By Shailagh Murray
Pivoting to general election mode, Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign announced a 50-state voter registration drive that will kick off four days after the May 6 primaries in North Carolina and Indiana.
“Vote for Change” will summon the volunteer army that Obama has amassed in the 47 states and territories that have already held primaries or caucuses this year, along with the nine yet to come. Deputy campaign manager Steve Hildebrand described the effort as a “sustained 6-month campaign” aimed at driving up turnout for all Democratic candidates in November.
this is another huge reason why OBAMA will be the best candidate…
he will be able to bring out the
OVERWHELMING DEMOCRATIC VOTER TURNOUT
that is needed…
April 25th, 2008 at 5:40 pmaaack! i forgot the formatting tools!
this sentence - turnout for all Democratic candidates in November. -
April 25th, 2008 at 5:42 pmends the linked portion of my post… what follows is MY opinion…
And anyone who thought this was anything other than a devious campaign trick by the RNC should think again.
April 25th, 2008 at 6:55 pmThis is a win-win for McCain — he can claim the highroad, while benefitting from the low road.
The GOP is still going to run the AD, because Mcain has absolutely no influence of his GOP party.
He cannot control them. They control him.
Case in point;
McCain before nominee, ” Tax cuts during war is wrong”.
“Torture is wrong”
McCain as the nominee,
” I would continue the Bush tax cuts”
And “voted in favor of tortue during the recent Senate vote to ban torture”.
Just for openers……………………….!
April 25th, 2008 at 8:44 pmBuckie Boy is spot on. The uncurious, gullible, uneducated segment of the population are preyed upon and react to emotion rather than reason. The Bill Moyers interview with Rev. Wright should be played nonstop and his sermons should be watched in their entirety to understand the total context from which the soundbites were wrongly extracted and bent to stir the stirrable ignorance. What a travesty for Rev Wright.
April 26th, 2008 at 1:27 pmThe dredger Republican spinmeisters continue scouring their sewerhomes with the rats who share their domain. The sadness is that there are poorly educated people in poverty who swallow the bait hook, line and sinker not knowing they are being duped and used for the enrichment of the very wealthy.
I have some ideas for the rethuglican slogan for 08 -
April 28th, 2008 at 1:26 pmmaybe a bumper sticker or something -
I have 2:
Mccain - Just a few IQ points higher than Bush
or possibly
Mccain - Finally a president with an IQ in the double digits -
Any thoughts?
Which one is better?
#8 - 28% ???? Are you serious? I think you severely underestimate the stupidity of the American populace.
