On PBS’s Bill Moyers Journal last night, Moyers interviewed Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, whose controversial remarks created a political storm last month.
Reacting to advance excerpts of the interview, Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly attacked Moyers on his show last night, calling him a “far left PBS guy” who is “extreme” and “pathetic.” At the end of his Talking Points Memo segment, O’Reilly suggested that Moyers and Wright should “take a long vacation, perhaps in Iran.”
Watch it:
Later in the show, when O’Reilly asked former House Speaker Newt Gingrich if he could “figure” Moyers out, Gingrich called Moyers “a hard left sympathizer for anybody who dislikes America”:
O’REILLY: Can you figure this guy out, Moyers?
GINGRICH: Sure. Bill Moyers is a hard left sympathizer for anybody who dislikes America. And Reverend Wright’s sort of his perfect interview. He doesn’t lay — from what I’ve seen so far and the things that I’ve read tonight from the interview tonight, he doesn’t lay a glove on him.
Closing his discussion of Moyers with Gingrich, O’Reilly previewed a segment with Bernard Goldberg on his Monday show, saying “we’re going to wait and see the whole interview before we really hang Moyers, but Bernie’s warming up.”
disgusting.

Abu Ubaida al-Masri, one of Al Qaeda’s top operatives and mastermind is reported by anonymous sources to have said that before his death from hepatitis al Qaeda was in full support of John McCain for the American presidency.
al-Masri was quoted as saying, “I like McCain because we are certain he will continue the fear-mongering that will keep war and hatred going on for another decade or so in the middle east. We hope that he will win the election. I do believe he is like Joseph McCarthy. We like him very much.”
SARC OFF.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:11 pmGINGRICH: Sure. Bill Moyers is a hard left sympathizer for anybody who dislikes America
WTF is there to like about America amymore? I take pleasure in disliking it…..a greedy homophobic place, ignorant populace, militaristic, corrupt, defecits forever.
And, Mr Gingrich….your dollar is not worth the paper it’s printed on….hail the Euro.

April 26th, 2008 at 3:13 pmThe very fact this sociopathic, sexual harassing pervert has shows on TV and radio to spew his stupidity just reflects how far the US has sunk – it’s no wonder the world laughs at us and thinks we’re all f***ing ignorant, hypocritical Jeebus “warriors”.
O’Reilly is nothing but a moronic bully and blowhard who only WISHES he had 1/100th of Moyers integrity, credibility and character.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:18 pmWhat kind of stupid morons are O’Reily and Gingrich….Oh, that’s right….we know what kind they are. We can only hope, in searching our genealogical roots, that neither of them have ancestors linking with ours!
April 26th, 2008 at 3:21 pmNewt Gingrich and O’Really. Now there’s a pair. A porn star wannabe and death-bed wife leaving adulterer.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:25 pmMoyers has more credibility in his little pinky than these two morons could ever hope to have.
Gingrich confuses the advanced citizenship of holding your government accountable with that of hating your country. He was asleep during his history and American Government classes.
What O’Reilly and Goldberg have said is symptomatic of the quasi fascist state that America has become. In their view, anyone who disagrees with the United States “dislikes” America, while never bothering to examine why Rev. Wright has chosen to make the statements that he did. These two are quick to question the patriotism of Rev. Wright, who is an ex-Marine, while those two chickenhawks never came anywhere near a field of combat while wearing a military uniform.
Also, rastaman at #5 would be well advised to remember that Obama, who is viewed as many as the savior of the Democratic party, was quick to distance himself from Rev Wright’s comments. Like O’Reilly and Goldberg, Obama never addressed whether Rev. Wright had good cause to criticize the xenophobic, racist, militaristic ways of the United States.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:29 pmO’Reilly & Fox co. does not think they are extermists…and propagandists.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:31 pmFox network feeds people junk and twisted news all day..and at the end of the day they are accusing a guy like Bill Moyer of being an American hater.
Gingrich our ex-House Speaker agrees totally with O’Reilly and Fox on this lie.
I think Fox is mad because they made Rev. Wright to look like a monster, while Bill Moyer interview does not show him that way.
Of course Fox and O’Reilly will be angry, that’s because Bill Moyer showed an image of Rev. Wright different than what they have been selling to the public.
Erroll Says:

I agree w/ you on this one, Erroll.
I was disappointed in Obama’s response too. I agree w/ what Rev Wright said about this country. FAAAAAAAAAAAAAR too many people simply can’t bear to see the truth about the US… what an ugly past it has, and what a nasty place it has become. I have a friend in Canada who was in LA on business a few years ago. All he could say was, “What’s wrong with everyone down there? Why are they so hostile?”

This is why the MSM and Ghoul-Aid guzzling RePugniScums are putting up such a stink against Obama and this specific issue. The truth is finally floating to the surface and the Turds on the right are fighting for their lives to stop the truth from taking them down.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:43 pmWho’s dumbest, O’Reilly, Gingrich….or Wright? This guy seems to be going out of his way to torpedo Obama’s chances. The LAST thing Wright should be doing, if he supports Obama, is to be in the public eye trying to justify, rationalize or explain anything.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:53 pmMcCain is getting such a pass by the mainstream press. He makes statements in an attempt to distance himself from Bush, but a closer look reveals no distance at all. But, none of the journalists are following up on his statements.
Obama and Clinton have everyword scrutinized while McCain gets a free ride.
On another note: He can’t remember his statement the other day about perhaps tearing down the Ninth Ward in New Orleans. Did the press follow-up? It may not be completely clear yet, but I think McCain shows signs of neurological problems. The press needs to begin quit coddling. Are they afraid of Senior Abuse?.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:53 pmAs long as there are people who fear thinking for themselves, there will always be an audience for O’Reilly, Rush and other authoritarians so ready to spoon feed opinions to them.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:56 pmimagine that…

_______________
I have to say, I think it’s been going on longer than that. I feel as though I’ve been watching this transformation take place over the last 15, even 20 years. The real difference since 2000 or so is that now folks feel it’s okay to come right out and be publicly so hostile.
I read a book back in the early 90’s called, I think, “The Fuhrer-Ex”, written by a young man from Germany who had been recruited by the German Neo-Nazi leaders to be, potentially, their new Fuhrer. Scary, painful book.
The writer eventually became thoroughly disenchanted with the movement and dropped out, then had to go into hiding for while (death threats). One comment he made in the book that I’ve never forgotten? I paraphrase…
It’s not the obvious ones you need to worry about… the Skinheads w/ the tattoos and suspenders and Doc Martins. They’re too easy to spot. It’s the ones waiting in hiding, the judges and engineers and college professors, biding their time.
I can’t get that out of my head, especially in light of what so many people in this country have become over the last 7 years.
The Europeans think we’re crazy for not cracking down harder on Neo-Nazis. At the time (the early 90’s) know which country was the largest purveyor of Neo-Nazi literature in the world?
Do I really need to say it?
April 26th, 2008 at 4:06 pmO’Reilly has no right to comment on Bill Moyers, Helen Thomas, or any of the few remaining journalists in this country. What an assnugget. My guess is that he’s angry because Moyers ran the extended clips of Rev. Wright’s controversial remarks which established the context of said remarks.
I had already taken the time to find the long versions on Youtube, so, there really wasn’t much of a revelation. My opinion was, and remains, that the whole “scandal” was a smeer. Deliberate misrepresentation for political advantage.
If interested here are links to transcripts, and video, of the shows with Rev. Wright and John Hagee. The two Reverends present an interesting contrast.

This scumbag , Dan Gillerman, happens to be the Israeli “ambassador” to the U.N. The American media did not bat an eyelid at these most disrespectful remarks from a representative of a country that practices apartheid and racial discrimination.
For a “diplomat” To grossly insult a former President of the U.S.A. and no one appear to care says it all about the ignorance of the populace.
Perhaps Ahmedinijad is right….remove this ungrateful and cancer of a country from the map.

I feel comfortable saying so much of this has been waiting just under the surface for the right time to come forward, and that time is now. I trace some of this back to the rise of conservative radio commentators like Rush, or what I like to call “hate talk radio”.
There’s a law against shouting FIRE! in a crowded theater. When did it become okay for talk show hosts to openly call for riots, like Limbaugh did this week? And use his nationally syndicated radio show to do it?
About enough to make you puke?
Sorry, but I’m WAAAAAAAAY ahead of you on that one.
April 26th, 2008 at 4:25 pmBill Moyer is a member of an endangered species – a real journalist who believes in being a counterweight to a government when necessary. He is a national treasure, and when we have seen the great majority of the rest of the MSM, whether network, cable or newspapers, act as surrogates for the government, we all need Moyer and others like Seymour Hersch like never before.
Gingrich is a fascist, nothing else. O’Reilly is an egoistic fool who doesn’t even realize he’s a tool for the far-right. He thinks he’s an American “original.”
April 26th, 2008 at 4:26 pmThe Republic of Stupidity Says:

No, I didn’t see this. Do you have a link?
April 26th, 2008 at 4:28 pm#22: badmoodman – you really should watch the interview…
- – I really did. At this point it doesn’t matter what Wright says. He’s toxic to Obama’s campaign. Being in the media limelight does not help, period. After all, he’s just a surrogate Obama target now for guys like O’Reilly and Wright is serving himself up on a platter.
April 26th, 2008 at 4:28 pmI saw the entire interview last night and Rev. Wright is an admirable man who deserves the respect he has in the community. It is no wonder that he is prominent within the clergy. He has led an exemplary life, and more importantly, the direction of his church and the works of his church are why 8,000 people belong to that congregation.
April 26th, 2008 at 4:38 pmPeople would get the facts before they spout off against him -O’Lielly and the Newt are fact-free commentators.
Moyers gave him an opportunity to describe himself and the mission of his church – but because Moyers didn’t tell him to “shut up!” or cut off his microphone, that makes Moyers at fault.
The brief sound bites we all saw over and over were exploited by the likes of the Liar and the Newt – and unfortunately the msm added all the fuel needed to make this a false firestorm.
So who exactly should interview Wright? O’Reilly? There’s no way O’Reilly would let Wright get a word in edgewise and if he did then Bill would just tell him that he’s crazy. What a jerk.
April 26th, 2008 at 4:54 pmI, unlike O’Reilly and Gingrich, actually watched the entire program. I found the entire interview substantial and informative. Watching the clips of the “controversial remarks” with them taken in context with all of what he is saying, I find no problem with what he said. All the Republican Bubble Heads listen to are the 3 second sound bites. I think Reverend Wright and Bill Moyers are substantially more “patriotic” than the above (2) McCain poodles.
April 26th, 2008 at 4:56 pmgood to know you “really did” see it, badmoodman…
but i have to say, it IS a good thing that he did this – and at this time, early in the campaign – because it is a wright that most have never seen, and NEEDED
to be seen, and heard, before any more doubt about the man could spread…
those clips would never have gone away regardless… just that now, because of this interview, this new and much needed picture of the rev. wright, so much of
April 26th, 2008 at 4:57 pmthe poison has been neutralized…
.
Well neither Moyers or Wright was wearing a flag pin so obviously they’d rather live in Iran. Hey wait a minute, Newton, Billo where are your made in China flag pins.
Seriously neither on of these turds is fit to shine Moyers shoes. But the hanging reference, shouldn’t that at the least get O’Reilly suspended?
Really what is left of this country to be proud of? Racism, poverty, ranmpant shootings in and out of schools, and children going without food and healthcare in the “wealthiest nation” ever. And our populace so selfish that all they worry about is that maybe their taxes might get raised at the same time we’re paying $4 a gallon largely due to an invasions of a sovereign nation and tax breaks driving down the value of a dollar. OK, I’ll take a breath now.
April 26th, 2008 at 5:09 pmReverend Wright served in the Marines honorably and then when he left joined the Navy. Hey New, Billo, where did you serve. And oh yeah, her served during Viet Nam. What a bunch of jerks.
April 26th, 2008 at 5:10 pmAnd for the record, last weekend in less than 72 hourse there was 32 shooting in the City of Chicago with 7 resulting deaths. Then in the middle of the week 5 people were shot dead inside a home. This is the city that Reverend Wright was working out of and trying to make improvements in and he did in fact do that. Obviously they found ONE sound bite to crucify him with or we would see more of them.
It’s just pathetic the small minds of the American people. That’s how we ended up with the government we deserve.
April 26th, 2008 at 5:13 pmbadmoodman Says:

______________
I still think it’s better for Wright to come out and speak up. Otherwise, it can give the APPEARANCE that a) Orally is right… Wright does have something to hide, and b) the Wright, and by association perhaps Obama, can’t stand up to a pseudo-tough guy/blowharder like BillO.
After all, it was Orally’s boss, Ailes who said, “If they can’t face Fox…”
April 26th, 2008 at 5:22 pmOoooo, I bet these two are still supporting massive woodies over this. Unbelievable – who actually listens to these fools? It’s like a junior high debate.
April 26th, 2008 at 5:38 pmIt is obvious to me that the folks (generally) that listen to this hate-speech truly want us to go back to the 1800’s where ‘times were simpler”…LOL!
These folks, including Billo and Newt, need to go back there today! Leave us alone in reality to deal with the mess you morons have created. We’ll be a LOT better off without you.
It also scares me to death that it seems NO ONE in the Main Stream Media cares! Is it just me or do there seem to be two time lines going on here…???
April 26th, 2008 at 6:03 pmBill O’Reilly would have given his left n** to have Rev. Wright sit opposite him on his set. What a schmuck! That said, I think everytime Rev. Wright opens his mouth is another chance people have to nail Obama. He’ll get all the “Wright business” during the general election. He doesn’t need to keep defending it during the primaries. Reverend, hold thy tongue.
April 26th, 2008 at 6:06 pmEven more appropriate, given his anti-American, anti-troop diatribes, Bill-O should go over there himself. God knows he’s never been patriotic before.
April 26th, 2008 at 6:17 pmYou know? The more I think about it; the more sense it makes for Rev. Wright to do this particular interview. True, it’s PBS and won’t be seen by many as broadcast, but, it will make it to those who care to find out for themselves. Like us.
Any other venue and the MSM would have simply maliciously edited the same clips. As is, it has supplied the context for the previous clips.

April 26th, 2008 at 7:00 pmI don’t agree with the “Keep your mouth shut” theory . Rev. Wright grew a church from less than 100 members into a congregation of THOUSANDS…all of which (along with Obama) are having their Patriotism and Morality denigrated by this right wing snippet smear attack.
If Obama is as smart and articulate as I think he is, he will take this issue Head On….and get McCain’s position on the record.

Later in the show, when O’Reilly asked former House Speaker Newt Gingrich if he could “figure” Moyers out, Gingrich called Moyers “a hard left sympathizer for anybody who dislikes America”.
What is it that makes someone/anyone a “real American” or a “patriot” to these 2 mental furballs ?
Pushing idiotic policies and propoganda that have proven to be monumentally ineffective if not downright fraudulent and completely asinine from one political party ?
Hey O’Lielly and Newt ; we are the United States of America because we stand united for shared common goals and dreams.
Blind loyalty and trust to those who have squandered it is not inclusive in that deal ………….
April 26th, 2008 at 11:38 pmWould someone do us all a huge favor and pin O’Reilly’s lips together with about forty flag pins>? Thanks in advance…RUC
April 26th, 2008 at 11:58 pmDoes anyone besides Ann Coulter and Dick Cheney and their 20% approvers still watch BillO ?
Seriously.
Bill sits there on air and decides who is and who isn’t American ? By his opinion while they have the “FOX News” emblem on the screen?
Bill hates America because he feels it has to be like he wants it. Elitist Billy is completely detached from America because he only knows his “Gated Community” and the gated community thoughts.
Question for Billo,
Is Justice Scalia more important a human being than a person driving truck for a living?
BillO would decide that Scalia is more important because of the fact he lives in a gated community. But Scalia exists because of such a person that drives a truck or works construction, etc.
And Billo, Does Scalia act like he understands this fact?
Billo might say a truck driver is a dime a dozen. There again we have never had a shortage of supreme court justice nominees and as Justice Renquist passed on from his life of luxury at taxpayers expense. Roberts, Alito and Thomas were among the many to be considered.
Lastly, Billo needs to start explaining his religious views and who his Pastor is and so for if he is to continue to cast stones at who his imagination fears is his enemy……
April 27th, 2008 at 12:02 amTo a goose-stepping moron like billo, anyone with the slightest hint of reason looks like a bomb-throwing marxist. Gingrich is a failure with a grudge.
April 27th, 2008 at 12:29 amDoesn’t Gingrich have a cancer ridden wife to divorce so he can marry his mistress?
April 27th, 2008 at 12:34 amand of course BillO and Newt, being the great defenders of America, are also ex-marines…or was that Wright who volunteered to go to Vietnam?
April 27th, 2008 at 12:52 amWhat BILLO doesn`t understand is , Bill Moyers is a first rate journalist and a classy human being and Billo is just another reich wing mouth piece who does not know class when he sees it.These talking heads for the reich should bow down to Mr. Moyers and his high standards of journalistic integrity.
April 27th, 2008 at 1:27 amDoesn’t Newt have better things to do, like figuring out who destroyed the sanctity of his marriages?

April 27th, 2008 at 12:29 am
Someone turned Gingrich into a Newt and he didn’t get better. He may be delusional enough and egotistical enough to think that, if he gets enough face time, his dream of Republicans rising up and begging him to run for President might still come true.
April 27th, 2008 at 3:39 amI can’t wait until the advertisements start about McLame and his chief evangenital cheerleader Hagee start. Ought to be interesting how a good Catholic like O’lielly spin Hagee’s remarks that the Catholic church is a “great big whore”
April 27th, 2008 at 7:37 amlynchings with these guys deciding who needs hanging…..no evaluation of the truth….they just decide and the posse follows witlessly. Only republicans do these kind of things.
April 27th, 2008 at 10:17 amIf Bill Moyer was one of those journalists who sold their souls like O’Reilly and chose the dollar instead, he would be now making 5 times the money he is making now selling trash to public thru Fox Television.
April 27th, 2008 at 10:54 amBut Moyer refused to sell his soul, like O’Reilly.
When Bill Moyer, journalist Helen Thomas and few others of their generations die, journalism in this country will die with them..
We will be left with greedy ,money chasers class of jounalists who lacks principles to do journalism..People who can be bought not by corporations only ..but by government agencies..That’s when our democracy and free press begin to suffer. But the relief the public has now is in their computers where they can dig the truth and exchange ideas about the country, their future, and the world on their own.
katy Says:
i’m sure there are some who will find another snippet to spin…
They already have. The right and Hillary supporters are saying that Wright said Obama is a “lying politician”. They add the lying indicating that all politicians lie. They are also using the “politician” thing like it is a bad thing. The thing the Hillary supporters are missing is that she, too, is a politician and she really is a “lying politician”
April 27th, 2008 at 11:16 amZed Lefflin Says:
After working in Chicago for the last 20 years hand in hand with Obama one would think that filthy place would have been cleaned up…….just a little, sadly, it is worse than ever.
At least Obama and Wright did something to try to make Chicago a better place to live in. That’s more than one can say for the Republicans. I’m willing to bet that if you took a snapshot of Chicago when Bill Clinton left office and compared it to what it is today, Chicago is in much worse shape today than it was back then.
April 27th, 2008 at 12:03 pmFred Says:
we’re going to wait and see the whole interview before we really hang Moyers
lynchings with these guys deciding who needs hanging…..no evaluation of the truth….they just decide and the posse follows witlessly. Only republicans do these kind of things.
And where is the outrage about this statement? You know, the outrage they showed when Keith Olberman made the comment about taking Hillary into the back room?
April 27th, 2008 at 12:04 pmNothing burns my butt like listening to the opinions of O’Reilly, Limpdick, Hannity etc. When you have run you career making stupid, prejudiced and moronic statements about anyone on the left, you are totally irrelevant! Your opinion is worthless!
If O’Reilly had watched the Moyers interview with Rev. Wright, he would have seen a lovely, intelligent and very impressive man. Rev Wright has a long time sterling reputation that has been unfairly tarnished, and I applaud him for trying to rehabilitate himself.
April 27th, 2008 at 12:17 pmBilbo Hussein Baggins Says:
… The right and Hillary supporters are saying that Wright said Obama is a “lying politician”.
this morning on face the nation, i heard it as “just another politician”, to which
david axelrod first declared “he did not say that” … exactly…
when i heard wright say “he’s a politician”, i thought “there’s the next talking point…
April 27th, 2008 at 12:18 pmi knew it would get twisted and dumbed down… but adding the word “lying”?
i missed that one…
I think that Rev Wright is an honorable man that has been smeared by Fox News and other media to damage Barack Obama. Rev Wright has every right to defend himself and to educate people that do not understand his sermons.
Please watch Bill Moyer’s interview of Rev Wright with an open mind.

It’s amazing to me how the Right is comfortable smearing their fellow Americans on Left as haters of America. It’s like criminals saying the police hate freedom.
April 27th, 2008 at 1:26 pmO’really, Handitty, and Bush Limbaugh….Anyone remember Wally George??
April 27th, 2008 at 5:13 pmRegarding long vacations; Bill O’ should go to the thousand islands and spend a week on each one.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:47 amThe discourse has gotten to the point where it isn’t discourse…it’s assassination by proxy. These ‘people’ (and I use that term loosely) are fomenting tribal hatred and will need to be held to account when things REALLY go in the crapper. Everything that has happened in the last eight years will be a cake-walk compared to what’s coming.
April 28th, 2008 at 10:25 amThe writer eventually became thoroughly disenchanted with the movement and dropped out, then had to go into hiding for while (death threats).
At the time (the early 90’s) know toshiba 3000ct battery, toshiba b404 battery which country was the largest purveyor of Neo-Nazi literature in the world?
