In the corruption trial of Chicago political fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko last week, a federal witness alleged that “Rezko discussed efforts among top Republicans, including former White House political director Karl Rove and GOP national committeeman Robert Kjellander,” to have U.S. attorney Patrick Fitzgerald “fired to derail a corruption probe.” Now, according to Newsweek, the House Judiciary Committee “intends to investigate the facts and circumstances alleged in this testimony.”

April 28th, 2008 at 9:58 amThis is another matter best left to next year, after the Justice department has been purged of Bush appointees. No subpeona threat will have true weight, until the rubberstamps have been forced from the Justice department.
April 28th, 2008 at 9:59 amNo shi-ite, barfly.
Has Mukasey turned out to be just what we were afraid he had been selected to be, or what?
April 28th, 2008 at 10:01 amCan we have ‘Fitz’ head up the investigation, please?
OT, I see Obama broke his pledge to not appear on Fox Noise. Chris Wallace asked the expected gossip, but in my opinion, Obama fared well in the interview.
Now, Pantsuit One wants a debate. I agree with Obama; 21 ‘fake debates’ is enough. Hill-Dog, if you can’t get the attention you need, just tell some more lies. Yeah, that’s the trick…

April 28th, 2008 at 10:08 amreading a story in my local paper about ILL. GOV. BLAGOJEVICH and the REZKO trial, i read this name – CINDY CANARY- and became suspicious… maybe there is no relation to the BILL CANARY of the SIEGELMAN case, but i still wonder…
this is the AP story:

i sent a message to a few people that have been investigating and reporting on
the siegelman case to see if they were better at connecting any dots…
i still think rove is behind the rezko thing to get illinois governor BLAGOJEVICH
April 28th, 2008 at 10:09 amout of office…
It would be highly ironic and satisfying if the Rezko investigation led to Rove’s demise, eh?
While the Meanstreak Media was wallowing in accusations about Obama & Rezko, I couldn’t imagine a more fitting outcome.
April 28th, 2008 at 10:12 am“Conyers, whose staff has been probing other allegations of White House meddling in criminal prosecutions, recently renewed a demand for Rove to testify. If he refuses to appear, Conyers said, “the committee is prepared to resort to compulsory process”—i.e., a subpoena.”
You really think Rove is going to respond to a subpoena? You can see how well a subpoena worked with Miers & Bolton.
I don’t see anything happening until the present administration is out of office.

Raw Story’s report of the alleged Rove-manipulated prosecution of Miss. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Diaz Jr. is a great window into the compromise of the Justice Dept.

Nefarious control the State courts at the appellate and supreme court level is a huge threat to democracy and needs to have the kind of press coverage that we would expect of Americans who are being investigated for treason. The impact these courts have on America is as great as any congressional legislation and Supreme Court decision, as their rulings seldom are challenged beyond their court rooms.

Two conflicting issues here.

Two: More time to destroy evidence…
April 28th, 2008 at 10:19 amLemme get this straight — the Republicans (AND Hillary) are all over Obama because A) Obama bought property from Rezko, B) Obama arranged an internship for the son of a Rezko associate, and C) Obama received political contributions from Rezko (which he returned). Obama has never been accused of any wrongdoing from any of this, but rumors persist (fed by smear machines).
On the other hand, Rove and Kjellander are now suspected of trying to fire Fitzpatrick to derail a corruption probe of Rezko. And this was being done while they were ramping up the swiftboating of Obama?
I hate blanket condemnations, but a quick glance across the landscape suggests that Republicans are nothing but scum. I suspect this may be because the GOP politicians who actually have a sense of ethics tend to get buried underneath the slime of the rest of them.

I couldn’t agree more but I still question whether anything will happen even when the new administration takes office. I really feel it will go the way of the Iran contra affair. I even doubt that any investigation (that will lead nowhere) will continue. I am screaming from the mountain top over this!

It’s about time they are going to subpeona Rove if he refuses to appear. He has many illegal activities to answer for. It would be nice to finally see him indicted for at least one of them.

There is always hope, although I don’t have as much as I used to. I am very much afraid when the Dem’s are back in office, they will decide that we need to heal and that we need to put this behind us. I hope I am wrong.
April 28th, 2008 at 10:35 amLook, even if we uncovered that Karl Rove was plotting to put every attorney, registered democrat and independent out of work, at least we know he’d NEVER plot to close down his local KFC.

Unfortunately, I agree 100%. No one has answered the question if continuity of government (emergency laws) is still in effect after 9/11. I think it is and it not only is what the current administration is using to destroy our rights. On the flip side, it will be the reason the new administration (if there is one) will use when asked to answer for their complete lack of action during these times.

Good luck congress, you can’t even manage to subpoena a low level EPA administrator !
