And for Mary who wonders what reason there could be for privatizing the military…if you haven’t already, I might suggest that you dip into Naomi Wolf’s recent book “The End of America: Letters to a Young Patriot.” As a result of studying how people like Hitler and Stalin and Mussolini succeeded in rising to power in the 20th Century, Ms. Wolf has identified ten societal trends which seem to be common to nearly any government which is in the process of shifting towards totalitarianism — and she puts forth a convincing argument suggesting that most if not all of these ten trends are either already here or are well under way in the United States. One of these societal trends is the creation of a paramilitary force which not only does not answer to the people but which eventually becomes one of the mechanisms through which the people are oppressed. It is Ms. Wolf’s belief that Blackwater has a distinct potential to become just that — and I think she’s right. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that this has already happened — but I think the potential is definitely there.

Why can’t our military build their OWN training center? Why outsource the task? Where do they train now? Why pay an outside company, who is primarily interested in profit? Where have the Navy been training all along? I must be missing something.

Another question is who is Southwest Law Enforcement? Why are they on the design plan? I can’t find anything on them. I did find out, however, that the Raven Development Group is a subsidiary of the Blackwater USA family of businesses.

I agree with you, why would we pay that kind of money out when we are certainly capable of doing it ourselves. Saving the taxpayers alot of money….

I was trying to bring up the bigger issue rather than use this thread to just bash Blackwater some more. But you knew that, right?

If this is a serious question and you really feel like you “missed something” I’ve gotta ask, have you been under a rock? This is the Republic666an playbook, privatization is the goal so your well placed friends get to reap the rewards of funneling tax dollars to non-competitive companies. This really shifted into high gear with the installation of the current regime and was orchestrated long ago through the PNAC, or Project For A New American Century which was produced by the fascist arm of the political right, if one can slice the political right that finely, it suggested that into the future, from a 90’s perspective, war should be privatized. Guess who it suggested would be the best contractor for the job…well Halliburton of course.

This is no different than de-regulation which is sold as supposedly increasing competition which is supposed to be good for America but really it just strips out any oversight so the crooks can have their way.

Privatization and de-regulation, two equally corrupt concepts, and man has it been making them money!
