The Bush administration deployed a second aircraft carrier into the Persian Gulf on Tuesday to serve as a “reminder” to Iran, in the words of Defense Secretary Robert Gates. When asked whether the Pentagon was preparing military strikes, Gates said, “No.”
But, CBS News reported last night that the Pentagon is developing new “options” for attacking Iran:
A second American aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf today as the Pentagon ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran. Planning is being driven by what one officer called the “increasingly hostile role” Iran is playing in Iraq — smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops.
CBS’s David Martin said that, while “no attacks are imminent and the last thing the Pentagon wants is another war,” the U.S. has identified two key targets inside Iran that it is prepared to strike: 1) the plants where weapons being exported to Iraq are made and 2) the headquarters of the Quds Force.
This week, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is expected to confront Iran with with evidence of their meddling and demand a halt. If these talks don’t produce results, Martin reported, “the State Department has begun drafting an ultimatum that would tell the Iranians to knock it off — or else.” Watch it:

Even though Saudi Arabia supplies more people and money to attack our soldiers > But Bush and Cheney think most people dont know that and I guess they dont because how else could they get away with this . The dumming down of most Americans works for the lying cheaters running this country ----intothe ground. WTF
Wake up America!!!!!!!
I have been writing my Senators, Congressman, and my local newspapers on this issue for months, ever since Cheney started thumping his chest on board the US Aircraft Carrier almost a year ago. Sadr spokesman Salah al-Obeidi (al-Ubaydi) in Najaf bitterly attacked Iran, accusing it of seeking to share with the US in influence over Iraq. He pointed to the Iranian's regime's failure to condemn the long-term mutual security agreement being crafted by the Bush administration and the al-Maliki government. Al-Obeidi's angry denunciation suggests that Iran is backing PM Nuri al-Maliki and his current chief ally, the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq led by Abdul Aziz al-Hakim against the Sadr Movement of Muqtada al-Sadr.

Congress won’t be given the option to cave. The Neocons will tell Bush to give the order and because Fallon was replaced by a flunkey those orders will be followed, probably on a Friday night, in August, when Bush is on vacation.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran, OPEC’s second-largest producer, has stopped conducting oil transactions in U.S. dollars, a top Oil Ministry official said Wednesday, in a concerted attempt to reduce reliance on Washington at a time of tension over Tehran’s nuclear program and suspected involvement in Iraq.

I find it truly amazing that one man has to impose his will and beliefs on everyone that doesn't look at the world they way he does. Democracy doesn't work for everyone. Look at how this administration has perverted it, and what it has done to our country with the wrong person in charge. The checks and balances that are suppose to be in place to protect all of us are not being upheld. The Bill of Rights and the Constitution mean nothing to this administration. If the Congress doesn't act soon there may not be anything left to save come January.
Just when I think Bush has done all the damage he possible can; he comes up with a new way to hurt the US and it's citizens even more.

Cheney will engineer the "war program", but Bush will get the credit.
April 30th, 2008 at 11:13 amfrom the White House web page:
(extremists, meaning us.)
Extremists Are Fomenting Instability In The Middle East
One cause of instability is the extremism supported and embodied by the regime in Tehran. Iran is today the world's leading state sponsor of terror. It undermines Lebanese hopes for peace by arming and aiding the terrorist group Hezbollah. It subverts the hopes for peace in other parts of the region by funding terrorist groups like Hamas and the Palestine Islamic Jihad. It sends arms to the Taliban in Afghanistan and Shia militants in Iraq. It seeks to intimidate its neighbors with ballistic missiles and bellicose rhetoric. And finally, it defies the United Nations and destabilizes the region by refusing to be open and transparent about its nuclear programs and ambitions.
Iran's actions threaten the security of nations everywhere, so the United States is strengthening our longstanding security commitments with our friends in the Gulf – and rallying friends around the world to confront this danger before it is too late.
April 30th, 2008 at 11:15 amThe other major cause of instability is the extremism and violence embodied by al Qaeda and its affiliates. The United States joins countries in the Middle East that share our commitment to the freedom and security of the region, and we will not abandon these countries to terrorists and extremists seeking to impose their rule of intimidation and murder across the Middle East.

"I find it difficult to believe that Iranians would allow weapons to be traced back to them easily with manufacture dates on them," said Vali Nasr, an expert on Shiite politics at Tufts University. He said nothing in the allegations was new. What is new, he said, is the United States' need to justify its expansion of its operations to southern Iraq in support of Maliki's offensive.

AHH! Is anyone else beginning to really hate the words "freedom" and "security" ?
These are handmade catchphrases which are meant to dull the senses to the reality. They want to attack Iran, we know this as fact. However, they do not have any public or congressional support apart from their fellow neocons. So how will they achieve their goal? a) Creating an event that will rally the "public" around the president to facilitate an attack.
b) declare a state of emergency in the middle east and send troops from Iraq to Iran, therefore forgoing congressional approval because hey F-IN PRESTO congress already authrorized those troops to be there
c) they get Israel to do it.
C is most likely right now, but honestly and i hate to say this.. i cannot say with 100% certainty that these psycho's won't try to pull off an event in the US. It's a horrible thought and usually i would dismiss the idea out of hand but it just seems that certain chess pieces are so alligned that something could be happening. I hate what this administration has done to America, it's citizens and the rest of the world.
April 30th, 2008 at 11:38 amOnly stupid or mentally unbalanced people would think that sending more U.S. troops into harm's way, not to mention into the path of possible nuclear fallout, is supporting the troops.

April 30th, 2008 at 11:42 amHey Daryll - who is the "we"? Because you're the only one here who thinks this is a good idea.
BTW, did you see into your crystal ball that it'd be "just a few airstrikes"? How do you suppose this country would feel if some country came in and destroyed our nuclear "facilities"? Do you think we would just sit back and say, "Oh well, guess we'll just have to do without those now"?
April 30th, 2008 at 11:44 amDemocracy doesn’t work for everyone.
This has nothing to do with democracy. In a truly democratic Iraq, the public would be able to vote in a government which would make American troops leave. Iran, whatever its faults, is undoubtedly more democratic now than it would be after an invasion by Bush.
April 30th, 2008 at 11:45 amCongress could at least make the Administration's Propaganda Machine slow down a bit by calling in the heads of the sixteen intelligence agencies that wrote the NIE and Admiral William Fallon and ask them if anything has changed since the reports release. Their opinions on the Administrations drum beating needs to be part of the public record. Also Obama should make a statement to the effect that another unprovoked attack on another country without the support of Congress AND the American people will not come without severe consequences to ALL members of this pathetic Administration. Something along the lines that if war crimes tribunals were to begin, he would gladly hand over ANYONE that they want, regardless of their political stature.
I think Lincoln said it best:
"The provision of the Constitution giving the war-making power to Congress was dictated, as I understand it, by the following reasons. Kings had always been involving and impoverishing their people in wars, pretending generally, if not always, that the good of the people was the object. This, our Convention understood to be the most oppressive of all Kingly oppressions; and they resolved to so frame the Constitution that no one man should hold the power of bringing this oppression upon us.:

April 30th, 2008 at 11:48 amAny bets the Israeli strike on Syria's supposed nuclear facility last September was really a test of SAM jamming equipment that the US will want for an attack on Iran?
Syria and Iran have a lot of Russian AA equipment in common, driven by the same software.
If the Israelis were so damn justified about attacking a Syrian "nuclear" project, why didn't they put on a big PR show? Instead they stayed quiet until forced to mumble some vague admissions about the very fact of the attack.
The Syrians didn't complain loudly either, presumambly because their AA systems had been so thoroughly compromised.
The Israeli attack was an ACT of WAR, but the Syrian's didn't respond within even a show of military strength at the border--how could they, when the Israelis had just demonstrated complete freedom in Syrian air space? With no air defense Syrian air bases could be destroued at will, with no air cover Syrian ground forces could be picked-off at will--therefore no posturing even from Syria; it would have been a joke.
So what was the point of the attack on Syria? What has it accomplished? Grossly underreported is the fact that after the attack no one has found any radiation traces from the facility and nuclear experts have noted there is no infication of any infrastructure required by a nuclear facility.
If Israel's inteligence on the target was horribly wrong, wouldnt they have protested it was right, as the US has done re Iraq for all these years? Instead they kept quiet.
If the intellgence was right, wouldn't they have equally made a big PR show? They did not.
By keeping quiet they limited not only critical examination of their actions but corroboration for their actions too--a strange choice unless of course the target was not the purpose of the mission, but incedental to it.
Perhaps it wasn't the destination that mattered, but the journey through heavily defended airspace--which just happens to mimic the heavily defended Iranian airspace.
One might recall that the US/UK suddenly increased their overflights of Iraq in the late summer of 2002, inviting Iraqi SAM targeting systems which they then systematically destroyed. Approx six months later Iraq was invaded with complete air superiority.

Daryll Says:
I’m rooting for America and our soldiers. How about you? Anyway, we do not war with Iran. We just want to destroy their nuclear facilities. We do not want terrorists to have access to sensitive weapons.
The idiot troll Darryll seems to think that attacking Iran will somehow help America and our soldiers. Apparently it hasn't enough brain cells to realize that poking a hornets nest usually ends up in very angry hornets. So, how can the hornets (Iran) strike back? I know, how about they get really involved in Iraq and start taking out our soldiers as retribution.
It also hasn't enough brain cells to realize that starting another "preemptive" war will not help America in any way. It will take us further down the road to bankruptcy and it will completely destroy any good will we still have with any other nation. Most other nations view us as bullies and have come to view America as more of a threat to Earth than any terrorists could ever be.

Of course that’s what the British and continental Europe pays already. But then they also have lots of economical cars (especially diesels) and extensive modern and efficient public transport alternatives.
Right now with gas at just $4 a gallon, with static/falling wages and a still weakening dollar (internationally and of course domestically because the US produces so few ordinary consumer items these days) even the major city dwellers who have relatively sizeable public transport systems are rather screwed because there’s been so little practical investment in those systems over the past 60 years.

April 30th, 2008 at 12:37 pmMcWars Says:
$8 gas would bring trucking companies to their knees — not to mention, additional airliners.
$8 gas would bring this country to it's knees. The cost of our consumer goods, especially food would pretty much double.
One thing everyone needs to remember about recessions and the concurrent rise in food prices. Once the recession is over, food prices rarely go back to the level they were before the recession. I remember paying $1.50 for a box of cereal that cost me $4.00 before the recession hit. It will probably end up $6.00 a box and then when the recession is over, it will drop to $5.00 a box.
I'm fairly sure that the people who make and package our food stuffs realize that once we are used to paying a certain price for the food, we really won't notice if the price goes back to what it was before the recession hit. So, it just ups the profit margins of the corporations who are responsible for feeding us.

Nancy Pelosi should be hung!
Is there are dirty little secret underneath Nancy's pants that we are not aware of???
April 30th, 2008 at 1:40 pmI think that if the U.S. hits Iran, Russia is very likely to retarget their nuclear missiles back toward the U.S., Europe and perhaps Israel. And it wouldn't take much by China to wipe out our economy by dumping it's U.S. Treasury bonds.

Medical Consequences of a Nuclear Attack on Iran
http://www.psr.org/site/PageServer?pagename=security_main_iranfactsheet
.
I’m greatly concerned that given the Bush administration's abysmal track record on world diplomacy any war like action in Iran will blow up in their faces bringing great harm not only to the innocent men, women, and children in Iran but also to our nation.
.
I worry about Russia’s closeness to Iran; they are joined by the Caspian Sea and they have sent defensive missiles to Iran. Will they be drawn into this war?
.
Saudi citizens are sending money in the millions to the Sunnis of Iraq. Will they be drawn into the war?
.
Will they be igniting the spark, similar to the flash that lit WW One, which causes nations to divvy up sides for another world war?
.
Will the world view us as the aggressors and retaliate economically if not militarily against our interests?
.
Are we saying its okay for Saudi citizens to support their Sunni side but it’s not okay for Iranian citizens to do the same for the Shiite side?
.
Are we just using questionable evidence of Iranian involvement, at whatever level, as an excuse for war with Iran?
.
Are we now picking a side?
.
Will it be the Sunnis?
.
If we align with the Sunnis are we unwittingly siding with those tolerant to supportive of Al-Qaeda? It seems we may be doing exactly that.
.
Are we seeking support from both Saudi Arabia and radical elements among the Sunnis, loyal to Al Qaeda, for an attack against Iran?
.
Are we doing the bidding of Saudi Arabia?
.
Are we going to attempt to replay the old Iran-Iraq war? It sure seems we may be heading in that general direction.
.
Where is the national debate?
.
Where is the congressional authorization?
.
Where is the Bush administration credibility on intelligence leading to military adventurism?
.
NOWHERE TO BE FOUND.
“even a conventional military attack on nuclear facilities could lead to significant morbidity and mortality among neighboring civilian populations, while recent reports estimate up to millions of casualties in Iran and neighboring nations if nuclear weapons were used.”

April 30th, 2008 at 7:08 pmGet ready for the false flag attack. This will give Chimpy the chance to attack Iran.
May Allah bless us all.
April 30th, 2008 at 11:10 pmThe way you deal with a rabid dog is to put it down. Iran and it's leader are rabid dogs and need to be put down just like Hitler was in WW11. Hitler and Ahmadinejad are two of the same kind with the same overall goals which is to wipe out the nation of Israel. Islamics such as Ahmadinejad will not stop until this task is accomplished or die trying. It is a part of their religion if you have read and understand the Quran as I have done. Those who think that they can reason with such a mad man as he, are the same ones who thought that Hitler could be reasoned with in WW11. Not going to happen. As distasteful as it will be - It must be done. Biblical scripture dictates that this conflict will happen and the outcome is already set. Ezekiel 38 & 39. For my part - if it must be done then do it and get it over with as soon as possible. The sooner the better.
May 1st, 2008 at 11:38 amI wish they would just hurry up and bomb them and do not stop until they are all Gone every single one of the hate mongering radicals!!!go US Go!!
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:40 ambased on what I've read here, it's obvious VERY few of you have read the Quaran(please pardon any mispelling..my keyboard letters are not as big as I'd wish). If praying toward Mecca all day long, putting your women in head to toe bed sheets, growing a beard(like it or not), learning to field strip an AK47 and speaking a new language(Arabic) is what you want for yourself and your kids, then look the other way while the Islamic wackjobs continue to chop off heads because their religion of peace, light, and tolerance, says it's OK! Time for a Jihad of another stripe isn't it?
