House committee threatens Rove with subpoena.»

Today, the House Judiciary Committee threatened to subpoena former White House adviser Karl Rove, unless he agrees by May 12 to testify about former Alabama governor Don Siegelman’s corruption case. In a letter to Rove’s attorney, the committee wrote, “We can see no justification for his refusal to speak on the record to the committee. We urge you and your client to reconsider…or we will have no choice but to consider the use of compulsory process.”

Oooo. I bet KKKarl is scaaaaaaared.

  2. singe_101 Says:

Wasn’t the draft compulsory as well? They cowered out of that.

  3. Nashoba nowa Says:

Rove doesn’t give a flying damn as long as Bush is in the Whitehouse, he knows he will be protected and even if he has to testify there will only be lies. Lies, Deceit, Greed, Arrogance, and total Incompetence hallmark the whole of this Administration………… and as Cheney is fond of saying Rove will say the same, so……………………

  4. Arctic Ghetto Says:

What? Is Rove cavorting with country club grifters? Nooo.

  5. Zooey Says:

Stop threatening, and JUST DO IT.

  6. radhika Says:

So they REALLY REALLY MEAN IT. They are going to ‘consider’ maybe possibly doing something serious (ooooooh) if Karl doesn’t decide by some future date (not today, mind you) to do the voluntary requested thing (like meeting with them) that Congress has been politely and languidly asking him and countless others to do for 2 years now?

Do I have this dramatic moment right?

  7. familyman Says:

Yeah. There seems to be an awful lot of subpoena threatening. Does anyone ever actually get subpoenaed and then actually have to testify?

  8. Freedom Rebel Says:

If I really thought anything wonderfully great would come of this, I would go out and celebrate now.. But, Rove is living comfortably under the protection of Bush & Cheney…

What I wouldn’t give for some old fashion justice..What a kodak moment that would be to see him behind bars…priceless.

    I know back to reality..sorry … I never lose hope though…

  9. Marie Says:

Ho-hum — another one for him to ignore.
Nothing ever comes of these things - we hear of them, and think “maybe this time” followed by the let down.
They all belong in jail and we know it here.
But in my lifetime, I doubt any one of them will see the inside of a cell.

Only in my dreams….damn reality sucks sometimes…

  11. Jim Says:

Maybe it’s better to allow Bush cronies like Rove to hem and haw and delay testifying. That way, when they testify under oath, and are caught lying, they can be sent to jail and won’t have the protection of a pardon from George W. Bush.

  12. Chocolate Jesus Says:

take the porker to court, this one will be even harder for even the most right wing judges to dismiss. I’m not aware of any priveledge that can be invoked if, as you claimed publicly, there is no information to be protected.

also, judges are usually smarter than politicians, and hopefully they will realize that if they let republicans get away with this, that someday it will comeback to bite them when dems are running the show..

  13. singe_101 Says:

If he has information, why don’t we just waterboard him?

We’re not punishing him, and it’s like water up the nose while swimming, anyway.

(BTW it’s water torture but for Devil’s advocate)
    Oh, /Devil’s advocate

  14. sacopenapa Says:

Bring the bastard handcuffed! Ready to go to jail!

  15. profmarcus Says:

i seriously wish i had a dollar - wait, make that a EURO! - for every “threat” that’s been issued by our totally toothless congress… the empty threats have gotten so absurd that i honestly don’t know why you bother to report them… they clearly mean nothing and are crafted only to create an impression of accountability and oversight, an impression as hollow and empty as the suits of the individuals who make them… try finding some real news and reporting on THAT for a change…

And, yes, I DO take it personally

  16. hanshiro Says:

ZOMFG! Another dem ‘Sternly Worded Letter®!’ How do those so targeted sleep a wink knowing the democrat’s finger-wagging ‘Word-Processor Of Vexation’ may be reaching the end of its patience….whereupon it huffily extends whatever deadline it has mandated to show that this time, they really mean it!

    Okay…just a little more time…but this time its the end!…unless you refuse…then, it’ll get serious….

  17. Ms_Joanne Says:

Let’s hope that’s a bus we hear approaching KKKarl!

  18. Bluestocking Says:

Someone needs to ask the Congresscritters of the House a very important question…

DO YOU ACTUALLY INTEND TO SUBPOENA ROVE OR ARE YOU MERELY BLUFFING???

Smart people know that if you absolutely must bluff, you’d better be prepared to have your bluff called. Making empty threats that you know you don’t really have the wherewithal to back up is not only pointless…it only serves to weaken your position that much further since it encourages your adversary to perceive you as someone who need not be taken seriously. DO YOU WANT THIS MAN TO TAKE YOU PEOPLE SERIOUSLY OR NOT???

  19. justsayin Says:

So Rove gets convicted for one his many crimes and guess what, Bush will pardon him, duh. Unless he goes free till after the election he’ll never see a day of jail time. I think he even said he expected to be indicted before fall? Perfect timing.

  20. justsayin Says:

And ralph the wonder lama the word is skeeerrd! (But i love your name.)

  21. Guy_Fawkes Says:

Wwhy is TP refusing to cover or offer insight regarding the DC Madam “suicide?”

  22. rocks911 Says:

Another threat? Yeah that’ll do it.

  23. barfly Says:

While I don’t think for a moment that Rove will testify, it’s politically important to keep Rove (and his connection to the McCain campaign)in the news. If congress can keep pressure on him to testify, sooner or later one of the pack journalists will ask Gramps about Rove’s problems, and his alledged connection to the McCain campaign.

  24. regular_joe Says:

If I had a nickel for every time THIS congress has threatened a chimp administration official with a subpoena, I wouldn’t have to work another day in my life.

Hello Congress? I can save you the 10 day wait: if it ain’t compulsory, Rove won’t testify.

Two words: Inherent contempt. Throw Rove’s sorry ass in jail until he agrees to testify. Anything else is just a waste of time.

  25. Who Misspoke Today? Says:

This is waaaaaaaaaaaay OT, but, Lurita Doan: FIRED

  26. artmann11 Says:

I bet Karl is quaking in his boots. Threaten him with 40 lashes with a wet noodle while you’re at it.

  27. misshusseinmolly Says:

Um…”threatens”??? Congress is a paper tiger and Rove knows it. I doubt he’s losing any sleep.

  28. artmann11 Says:

also, judges are usually smarter than politicians, and hopefully they will realize that if they let republicans get away with this, that someday it will comeback to bite them when dems are running the show.

Scalia. (shudder) He’d tell you to Cheney off, he’ll do whatever he wants or whatever is good for the party. Lifetime appointment.

  29. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    >Scalia. (shudder) He’d tell you to Cheney off,

Ever since “24″ got popular the dudes lost any semblance of sense he ever had, but read his opinion in Hamdi v Rumsfeld then tell me he insn’t still, crazy as he is, intellectually miles above CHeney, Rove, Wolfowitz, Inhofoe, Boner, Frist, Stevens, etc…
he’s also made statements such as “im worried the war on terror will go on too long” which show that the dude, somewhere in his mind, acknowledges that this whole “terror terror terror” thing might actually get old someday. Maybe I’m too easy to please, but any ray of reality I can see intruding into these peoples deluded minds gives me hope..

Also, remember, hes one judge of 9, on one court, granted, the most powerful one…I still say when these guys are faced with the prospect of enabling future democrats, they will think twice…

  30. kassandrasduplex Says:

CRUCIFY ROVE JUST AS HE DID DON SEIGELMAN

  31. ThomasMc Says:

The headline should have read: “Most impotent Congress in history threatens to actually do something. Someday. Maybe.”

    yawn.

  32. GeeDubs Says:

Karl Red Rover Red Rover will never be sent over to the committee to testify. Threatening a subpeona, why how dast they??? It’ll be ignored, like everything else this Administration has done with any attempts at oversight. Responsibility and Accountability are NOT in their vocabulary.
