Atrios highlights a June 2003 appearance Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) made on CBS’s Face The Nation in which McCain said that the American people “need some straight talk” about how long the U.S. would be involved in Iraq:
McCain, an Armed Services Committee member, faulted the Bush administration for fueling a “growing sense of unease” in the American public.
“They need some straight talk about what the plan is, how long we’re going to be there,” McCain told CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
Roughly five years later, as he tries to beat back his claim that it is “fine” with him if American troops are in Iraq for “100 years,” McCain is unwilling to provide the “straight talk” he called for in 2003. As Ron Brownstein writes today, “McCain hasn’t said how long he would keep fighting to reach” his “demanding goal” of “success.”
“Straight talk” from senile old McCain? I don’t think so… He can’t even remember the lies he told last week…
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:32 pmAnd what you need McCrazy is a straight jacket, and a muzzle.

You need someone to explain to your retarded old self that 75% of Americans aren’t interested in being there one moment longer , no matter what “plan” there is (which there isn’t , really).
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:36 pmThis whole “straight talk” construction is a cliche the american public is getting damned tired of, as evidenced by the polls. Tired rhetoric from a tired candidate.
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:38 pmOh, come on! There’s no hypocrisy here. “Straight talk about how long we’re going to be in Iraq” clearly is consistent with “100 years”.
McCain just wanted someone to tell it to the American people straight:
“How long we gonna be there?”
“A hundred years.”
Problem solved.
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:40 pmHow many times do we need to hear McCurmudgeon say “my friends” and “straight talk” before we all go postal. Some of us are going to snap before November.
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:44 pm“They need some straight talk about what the plan is…”
Plan? What plan?
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:54 pm“McCain hasn’t said how long he would keep fighting to reach his “demanding goal” of “success.”
– - Well, until we win, of course.
Pfffffft.
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:56 pmAs much as McNutzi has flip flopped on every other issue, the one thing you can clearly distill from all of his comments on Iraq is that he is willing to stay there forever at the cost of every sericeman and woman if that is what it takes not to “lose” — whatever that means.

And here is my response to both you and McMoron : Shut the fu(k up.We don’t belong there , and we never belonged there . It is time for us to leave and bring our troops home.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:15 pmI suggest wrapping this McCain stuff into one nightly post ala Thinkfast. This is exhausting.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:18 pmI must agree McWars. I am McCain’d out! Thinking about him even coming close to winning in November is beginning to give me insomnia!
I mean, by now there must be more material out there than can even be used between now and the election! But yet he seems to be doing okay. I do not get it.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:21 pmPerhaps McIIIrd (rhymes with turd) should clarify “Straight” talk means Heterosexual balding white hypocrite — Talk.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:35 pmHi Mary
I believe all the material out there on McCain will realize its full value. I’m not counting on the media this year, a first, so nailing him will come through the best compilations the Internet can offer once our nominee is decided.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:36 pmRIGHT ON, RU!!!!
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:41 pmEnjoy:

May 2nd, 2008 at 6:01 pmYes, indeed we do need some straight talk.
And it’s quite obvious to everyone that we are NOT going to get it from you, Grampy McWarmonger.
So, my friend, please, do us all a favor and ram your “straight talk” right up your wrinkly old poopchute.
May 2nd, 2008 at 6:04 pmHere’s what McCain’s saying on his website:
Bolster Troops on the Ground
A greater military commitment now is necessary if we are to achieve long-term success in Iraq.
He wants more americans to get killed, covering for the worst military blunder in US history.
John McCain agrees with retired Army General Jack Keane that there are simply not enough American forces in Iraq. More troops are necessary to clear and hold insurgent strongholds; to provide security for rebuilding local institutions and economies; to halt sectarian violence in Baghdad and disarm Sunni and Shia militias; to dismantle al Qaeda; to train the Iraqi Army; and to embed American personnel in Iraqi police units. Accomplishing each of these goals will require more troops and is a crucial prerequisite for needed economic and political development in the country. America’s ultimate strategy is to give Iraqis the capabilities to govern and secure their own country.
So, backup, do you support sending more troops off to die?
May 2nd, 2008 at 6:23 pmMcCain needs a wet start to shake him up.
May 2nd, 2008 at 6:31 pmAh! but what will McPander Bear’s site say tomorrow?

May 2nd, 2008 at 6:45 pmI can see why McCain is so opposed to congressional earmarks; he’s already earmarked the money – for Iraq.
May 2nd, 2008 at 6:52 pmLike his little buddy before him McCain will bumble along saying silly things. This gives me not a smidgen of confidence. Almost half the country will vote for this guy.
May 2nd, 2008 at 7:57 pmIf the person we elect to be the next president believes that sending more troops to Iraq is the best way to address the situation, I would support it.
If the next president believes that a measured withdrawl is the best strategy, I would support that.
My opinion is that we should make a significant effort to ensure that when we leave Iraq, it is relatively stable and capable of self-governance.
But, I would support whatever decision, the next president makes.
May 2nd, 2008 at 8:23 pmHow long will it take to remove our oil, which ended up under those benighted ayrabs for some insane reason? That’s how long our kids will be dying there for our kleptocracy.

Wow, there’s a truly craven attitude. We aren’t electing an all-seeing, all-knowing wizard, y’know. Giving someone, anyone, such blind support, is what got us in this mess in the first place. Can’t you see that?
“We should make a significant effort to ensure that when we leave Iraq, it is relatively stable and capable of self-governance”
In other words, we should never leave, since those terms can never be met. And how much will this cost? Another trillion dollars we must borrow from SSI, and the Chinese?

Silly Senator, only 100 years…

Can you point me to the part where explain how he’s going to keep the Iraqis from electing a government similar to the Hamas led government of Palestine, and what he would do if that happens..?
