‘Recent friction’ with White House led to Doan’s ouster.

On Tuesday evening, controversial General Services Administration chief Lurita Doan e-mailed her colleagues announcing that she was stepping down from her position after being forced to resign by the White House. Though Doan’s resignation was recommended by the White House Office of Special Counsel and House Oversight Committee chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA), CongressDaily reports today that “her ouster was triggered by more recent friction with the White House”:

According to House Oversight and Government Reform ranking member Tom Davis, the headstrong administrator angered White House officials by refusing to abide by their wishes on several matters, including her recent rejection of suggested political appointees to fill senior-level vacancies at GSA.

“That seems to be the straw that broke that camel’s back,” said Davis, citing a conversation with White House officials regarding Doan’s ouster.

Update In an interview with Federal News Radio, Doan explained what happened at the White House meeting:

Less than 30 seconds into the meeting, I was told the White House was requesting my resignation. I tell you, it was humbling and frankly, it was bizarre. Naturally, I immediately stated, "I serve at the pleasure of the president," and I immediately gave my resignation. I was surprised to be told that from the White House point of view, I was considered, and this is a direct quote, a "distraction to progress at GSA."

I love it when this moronic administration eat their own.

  2. Bobwurst says:

So, how incompetent must those political appointees have been for this hack to say they aren’t up to the job? Or is it that these folks were mildly competent and qualified and that was too much for this hack? Inquiring minds want to know.

Why it every time the WH explains a firing, or someone leaving in general, it sounds like a cover story?

Oh wait, I know the answer to this one…

  7. Patty says:

    Let’s review:
    She wasn’t fired because she violated the Hatch Act, then lied under oath;

she was fired because she didn’t appoint similarly ill-qualified people to high-up openings.

    OK, got it.

  8. Peter C says:

So many government departments have suffered by a quiet ‘malignant neglect’ whereby Bush cronies have been installed to demoralize and destroy their departments. I am really angry that the Democrats in congress didn’t fight harder to prevent more of these awful appointments.

‘A President should have the people he wants running his administration!’ the Republicans shouted. Somehow, I don’t think they will take this line come December. We need to be prepared to shout just as loudly, and to find their own words and confront them with the footage.

when does she get her Medal of Freedom ?

“…her recent rejection of suggested political appointees to fill senior-level vacancies at GSA.”

If you’re a suck-up or a political toadie you get a medal. By this account, she stood up for some sort of principle and she gets fired. How typical in this administration. “Loyal Bushie” is a term that will go down in infamy.

To relieve a pain in the ass even the WH doesn’t recommend ‘Doan’s Pills’.

  12. And Yet... says:

Is it possible Lurita didn’t like their appointed hacks & wanted to install her own hacks in the positions? How dare you want your own set of cronies, Lurita? It’s the boot for you.

    I’m just happy she’s gone.

    These are the GSA’s values

Ethics and integrity in everything we do
    Respect for fellow associates
    Teamwork
    Results orientation
    Professionalism

also puppies are nice and dreams can come true once you manipulate the system for your own ends.

Um…I think that should be “And yes, I aware of the irony of having typos in ‘A’ post that points out a typo in a post that is pointing out a typo…”

Now, I’m just waiting for someone to point out the typos in MY post…

So let me see if I understand this situation.

The most publicly political of the surviving agency heads is not ’sufficiently political’ so she is tossed overboard?

I suppose that’s about right. What’s next for these morons at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?

I guess she wouldn’t have been so surprised had she heard, “You’re a greased breastpump siphoning lucre from the public teat solely to feed the corrupt and already overweight. And, sin of all sins, people found out about it.”

  24. CitiDC says:

The White House played her like a fiddle.

    1/Co-opted her ego.
2/Used her willing hands as a facilitator for illegal activity.
3/Depeneded on her to lie for them and cover up.
4/And then, as thanks, dismissed her.

I’m sure she’s got a personal ego axe to grind, but she now has no recourse because telling on the White House would probably mean that she becomes a perjurer in the eyes of Congress.

That’s why I’ve never corrected any misspellings or misuses of words in posts (as much as it bothered me). I do wonder what school districts/states some posters are from. Spelling was an important thing when I went to public school. The Bushco’s plan for the dumbing down of Americans is obviously working. By the way – the trolls are the worst. Just an observation – doesn’t mean their (not there or they’re) posts are any less informative or correct where (not wear or ware) the misuse of words are present too (not to or two).

  27. Doc Rock says:

The White House is just wiping its hands on its pants hoping to get some of her slime off of them even though she was their creature.
