McCain faces ‘a smattering of boos’ at baseball game.
Yesterday in Phoenix, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) attended a baseball game between the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks. He sat in the owners’ seats near the Diamondbacks’ dugout. AP reports that McCain “waved when he was shown on the giant video screen at Chase Field in Phoenix. He was greeted with subdued cheers, and a smattering of boos, from the crowd.”

And any senator attending a sporting event in his/her home state would probably also receive subdued cheers and a smattering of boos from the crowd — just because most crowds contain a mixture of fans, foes, and indifferent people who just want to get on with the game.

As for the criticism of TP for posting even this, admittedly, minor story – McCain will have to be defeated by a million such minor cuts. We cannot defeat him with one big swipe. For every stupid little story about the Democratic candidate(s), we need four about the “straight to hell express”. Those who ignore the political history of past Democratic defeats are doomed to repeat that history. Not this time – it’s too important.

I went to two D’backs games at Chase Field last summer; great ballpark, but the crowd as a whole was what I’d describe as only mildly interested in what was going on before, during and after the game. In fact, one game I saw there was against my team, the Nats, and there was more cheering going on in the crowd for the Nats than for the D’backs!
I’d say that at best, “subdued cheers” are what anyone would get at Chase Field. But the fact that McSame can only garner that level of support in front of his supposed home fans should make him question his support in the rest of the country, no?
As for the Mets, Ex — I suppose you get what you pay for…although I’d still rather have Schneider behind the plate for us again and give you guys back LoDuca (but we’re keeping Milledge)…
