Get Your Facts Right, Karl Rove»

ap03093001494-1ddd.jpg During today’s Washington Post online chat, Karl Rove chastised a questioner who brought up his infamous prediction that Bush’s poll numbers would rebound:

Columbus, Ohio: You boldy predicted that Bush’s approval ratings would rebound — instead he is, according to Gallup, the most unpopular presdient [sic] in history. Will you finally admit that your vision for this nation has been overwhelmingly rejected by the majority of the people?

Karl Rove: Get your facts right — there are at least three president who had worse approval ratings, Truman, Johnson and Nixon. I’m absolutely positive history will be kind to this president, who made the right decisions in a difficult time for this nation.

Rove needs to get his facts straight. The questioner is right. While Bush’s approval rating is not the lowest in history (but still near the bottom), his disapproval rating is actually the worst. According to the recent Gallup poll referenced by the questioner, Bush is indeed the most unpopular president in history — beating Truman, Johnson, and Nixon:

042208bushdisapproval1_459sc2aa0ec.gif

A recent poll of professional historians also found that “98.2 percent assessed the presidency of Mr. Bush to be a failure while 1.8 percent classified it as a success.” More than 61 percent of the historians “concluded that the current presidency is the worst in the nation’s history.”

Rove says he is still “absolutely positive history will be kind to this president.” How positive is he? As positive as he was that Republicans would win the 2006 elections?

no mention of the record filibusters by the right?
Odd that you would purposely forget that.

  5. belac Says:

    Actually anymouse-

I think those investigations are important.

I expect there will be a lot more investigations, both by Democrats and by Historians, into this Administration and I feel sure that they all will conclude that this Administration has done more to harm this country than any other in history.

I love the way the Gallop poll demonstrates that GWBush just keeps one upping GWBush!

Maybe if anymouse19 could post something that is on topic it wouldn’t look SO ridiculous. What this fact challenged troll ignores is that his obstructionist Republican pigs have blocked anything substantial from getting done for this Nation. Maybe it should look at it’s own Bushlicking traitors on the Hill as the true reason as to why not much has been accomplished. Then again I would rather have a Congress do nothing than the wanton destruction that 7 years of Republican rule has done to our Country. Try again, loser..or better yet go Cheney yourself!

Hard to tell without audio for context…but assuming that line in there indicates a pause, and therefore implying emphasis on the words “Get your facts right” it sounds like Karlie boy might be a wee bit sensitive about his wrong-ness…

By the way Karl, how’s that 100 year Republican majority going?

    Hmmmm

    2006 elections ; 1 1/2 years ago.

    2000 election ; almost 8 years ago.

The Dems are more responsible than Chimpy and Co for the endless list of Shrub administration fu(ck-ups that have been occurring for half a decade prior to the Dems gaining the majority in Congress ?

Party of personal responsibility , indeed……………

Rove: We will establish a 1,000 year Reich-er, I mean a permanent Republic party majority. Our late, glorious, exhalted fuerher- er, founding father, Ronnie Ray-gun said “facts are stupid things.” So we don’t need no stinking facts, we create our own reality.

    snark!

  24. pbg Says:

And did y’all notice that the disapproval ratings for Truman and Nixon were right at the tail end of wars that had sunk into quagmires?
Karl Rove: ” He may be the most unpopular president–but he’s not the least popular president!”
At the end of Bill Clinon’s tenure, we had a balanced budget, middle class prosperity (despite Alan Greenspan raising the prime five times in 2000), we were at peace, and our prestige worldwide was unmatched. Oh yeah, and the terrorists who bombed the World Trade Center at the beginning of his term were identified, hunted down, caught, tried and put in prison without suspending the Constitution, and there were no more Muslim terrorist attacks for the remainder of his term.
Near the end of George Bush’s administration, we have staggering deficits, the unraveling of the middle class, we’re losing two wars, and America is a pariah nation throughout the world. And the terrorists who bombed the World Trade Center at the beginning of his term are still free and laughing at us.

I think the remainder of Bush’s support just hate liberals so much that they won’t give them the satisfaction of making their distaste for the idiot rich kid public.

  25. paleolib Says:

Let’s see, Rove was wrong about creating a permanent Republican majority by politicizing 9/11 to win short term gains in the 2002 elections; was wrong about having “the math” before the 2006 elections; and was wrong in 2000 about sending Bush to California which he had no chance to win thus helping Bush lose the popular vote. He did correctly bet in 2004 that having anti-gay ballot initiatives in key states (hello Ohio) would bring out the bigots and put Bush over the top. That and the sheer audacity of getting a talking monkey elected president are pretty much what pass for accomplishments on turdblossom’s resume. Wouldn’t put a whole lot of faith in his predictions on the future. Bush will be remembered at best as the worst two term president in U.S. history, at worst as the president who bankrupted the country and destroyed its international influence. Ironically, the success of the next president — almost certainly a Democrat — will play a large role in determining where on that spectrum he falls.

  30. Perry logan Says:

Don’t forget, these people create their own reality. So none of their incredibly wrong predictions exist. None of their Guinness-Book-of-World Record shattering megacatastophes exist. The stats that prove them wrong simply don’t exist. Everything is going fine, and everything bad is Bill Clinton’s fault.

  31. sacopenapa Says:

Rove needs to get his facts straight

Rove need to be jailed. His indictment for TREASON, war crimes and crimes against humanity is far overdue. Together with this criminal administration and criminal Pentagon officials are the reason the USA has no credibility on the World today! The longer it takes for them to face accountability, the longer this situation will remain the same.

  32. blazorge Says:

“I’m absolutely positive history will be kind to this president….”
Well, that may be true if the victors actually do get to write history. As far as these people are concerned, the Bush years have been great. And none of it has been by accident. They, their backers and familiars have won and everyone else on the planet have lost. They took the greatest opportunity in history to really make the world a better place and threw it all away to instead make themselves rich. Forget all the people who have died and will continue to suffer and die because of them. The only thing that baffles me more than how these people can live with themselves, is how these criminals can still remain in office. I thought this country was supposedly ruled by law rather than royal fiat.

  33. robert.waldmann Says:

Looks like Rove has lost his grasp on all math but his own personal fantasy. It’s OK that te redefined the issue from highest disapproval to lowest approval. It’s a rhetorical trick but the person from Columbus didn’t specifically say he was talking about disapproval ratings. But where the hell did he get the idea that Johnson ever got an approval rating below Bush’s current approval rating ?

Johnson’s lowest approval rating was 35% approval (8/7-12/68, Gallup Poll) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Approval_rating (first google search took 2 minutes total including scanning the wikipedia article). Now Rove clearly had access to the web, so why didn’t he google ?

According to Pollingreport.com Bush hasn’t gotten an approval rating that high in a poll of adult Americans (as opposed to registered voters or likely voters) since a Gallup poll December 6th through 9th 2007.

Or I dunno maybe Rove was thinking of Andrew Johnson.

    I’d say he’s lost it.

  34. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

When Rove says “get your facts right” he actually is saying “get your facts to the right and for the right”.

Whe Rove says “I’m absolutely positive history will be kind to this president” he is actually saying “I’m absolutely positive his (i.e. Bush’s own) story will be kind to his presidency….”

  35. Roket Says:

So Rove is so proud of GW because he’s not THE worst. Gosh, there are three worser. Truman, who dropped the A-Bomb twice, Johnson, who escalated a failed occupation and Nixon, who resigned in disgrace. Three things come to my mind; Bombing Iran w/tactical nuclear weapons, Iraq and the breaking of Federal laws by this Administration on a daily basis. I do believe that someone is aiming for the worst presidency, otherwise he would show some sort of sign that he actually gave a shit.

  36. Red Pill Says:

Karl Rove: Get your facts right

    Why start now?

  37. Buckie Boy Says:

I’m absolutely positive history will NOT be kind to this president, who made the ALL THE WRONG decisions in a time MADE difficult by INCOMPETENCE for this nation.

Now that is a FACT you can take to the bank.

  38. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

    _______________________________________

Nice attempt at distraction — the record of congressional Democrats really has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

However, since you asked, a partial list would include raising the minimum wage, making badly needed improvements to infrastructure through the Water Resources Development Act, strengthening American competitiveness through the America COMPETES Act, tightening ethics rules with the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007, restoring the role of the Senate in placing U.S. Attorneys with the Preserving United States Attorney Independence Act of 2007, making sure the poor and lower middle class families can heat their homes with the 2007 Emergency Supplemental Act, and strengthening the FDA with the Food and Drug Administration Revitalization Act. Additionally, our representatives have made sure that the American middle class has been treated fairly in every budget passed.

This doesn’t even count their work on SCHIP expansion, stem cell research, and troop withdrawal legislation which was all vetoed by the President.

I am always amused by the conservatives, who basically managed to trash our country when they had full control of the White House, both houses of Congress, and the Supreme Court (yet still managed to blame “those d*mn liberals” for everything that was wrong). Then, when Democrats get a razor-thin majority in Congress, the expectation is that we will fix all the problems overnight that THEY created — despite obstructions and filibusters. This is a little like digging a well with a teaspoon — time-consuming at best, but even more difficult when people keep blockading your access to the hole.

But your point about harshly worded letters is well-taken. Personally, I think Congress has wasted far too much time on them. The wheels would have moved much more efficiently if we just issued subpoenas, enforced them with inherent contempt, and proceeded with impeachment.

Now — about the topic of THIS thread, which I believe concerns Rove’s interesting spin on Bush’s popularity. So he is judging Bush’s popularity by looking at his approval ratings rather than his disapproval ratings. This is a little bit like looking at two or three large mountains of sh!t and bickering over millimeters.

Rove believes that 50 year’s from now history will look back at the 2007 Miami Dolphins as one of the best, if not THE best football teams ever.

And until then, every one is entitled to their own opinion. Just like this shit stained Presidency. Somehow, miraculously, this last seven years of hell will be looked at as the good old days.

    Yeah, right.

  48. shoeless Says:

A recent poll of professional historians also found that “98.2 percent assessed the presidency of Mr. Bush to be a failure while 1.8 percent applied for positions at the Bush library.

  49. Angry McAngus Says:

Turdblossom is “positive” that history will be kind to this president because, as a coordinator for the Chimpy McCokespoon Presidential Library to be attached to SMU they’re trying to ensure they get to write their own history. of course, it will be alternate history, like those Southern “philosophers” who argued for slavery against the rest of the world. We all remember them, right?

  50. Klem Kiddilehopper Says:

For all you whiners and crybabies out there that are constantly harping that since the Dems have been back in control since Nov of ‘06 they haven’t hung any Bushies yet, settle down!
First - The Dems don’t yet have the numbers to do “ANYTHING!”
Second - With this crowd you want to dot all the I’s and cross all the T’s!
Have faith, everytime they don’t show after being served, or refuse to talk to Congress they just dig that hole a little deeper!
Read up on how Ollie North got off on a technicality after being convicted in the Iran-contra mess! The Country doesn’t need Bush, Rove, Cheney, Rice etc or anyone to be convicted, then escape punishment because of a technicality!
In other words, quit your whining!

  51. Bozo The Neoclown Says:

Is this the same Karlita Rove who also “predicted” the waaahhhpublicans would maintain their majority of both the house and senate in the midterm elections? Methinks the fat slob needs to invest some money in a new crystal ball since apparently the one he’s been using reveals nothing but a slimy turd with toilet paper clinging to it floating near the top.

  52. ralph the wonder llama Says:

“98.2 percent assessed the presidency of Mr. Bush to be a failure while 1.8 percent classified it as a success.”

I’m guessing that the 1.8% who classified the BushCo presidency as a “success” have set the bar pretty low — for instance, since Bush hasn’t been seriously injured during his presidency, it is a success.

  53. COProgressive Says:

Geez, people! Most people in the US now understand that Turdblossom lives in Backwards Land where everything he says comes out backwards. That way, no one will call him a big fat liar. Just believe the oppsite of everything he says, after all, he’s from Backwards Land.

“That’s not the way the world really works anymore. We’re an empire now, and when we act we create our own reality.” - Karl Rove
