Last month, the AP reported on new government guidelines advising against the use of terms like “jihadists,” “mujahedeen” and “Islamo-fascism” because “such words may actually boost support for radicals among Arab and Muslim audiences by giving them a veneer of religious credibility.” But former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) is having none of it. In his Philadelphia Inquirer column today, Santorum defends his desire to “abandon the word terror and replace it with Islamic fascism.” He also lashes out at the idea that “democracy and Islam are compatible,” saying that it is “a politically correct version of the truth“:
Our government in this memo is teaching us a politically correct version of the truth. For example, it tells us that democracy and Islam are compatible. But Islam is less compatible with democracy than is Christianity. Jesus said, “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.” There was from the beginning a recognition of two realms - the sacred and the secular. From Islam’s inception there has been one realm. Islamic law (sharia) is the law of the government.

Santorum
’nuff said.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:56 pm“Man on Dog” Santorum really needs to look up the definition of fascism.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:59 pmSo now Rick Santorum is supporting the separation of church and state?
Interesting…
May 8th, 2008 at 1:00 pmHow was someone this monumentally stupid ever elected to the US Senate?
May 8th, 2008 at 1:01 pmNot all Muslims follow sharia law, but it is the opiate for those directly oppressed by dictators.

May 8th, 2008 at 1:07 pmOne more reason I’m glad Pennsylvania put a moratorium on Santorum.
May 8th, 2008 at 1:10 pmLiving proof you can’t die of stupidity.
May 8th, 2008 at 1:10 pmYou know what i don’t understand? Santoroum, Hagee et al are allowed to insult a billion of muslims by calling them all terrorists and it’s accepted as free expression. Yet when the Jeremiah Wright controversy was happening, he said “god-damn” and it was bleeped by the censors of CNN, MSNBC, FOX etc. Sometimes i wonder who is being censored and why.

‘Islamo-fascism.’ The two have absolutely nothing in common, it is a Bushco New Speech Term, that means the exact opposite of what they mean.

May 8th, 2008 at 1:26 pmBut Islam is less compatible with democracy than is Christianity.
So what you’re saying, Mr. Man-on-Dog, is that Christianity isn’t compatible with Democracy, either. I get it now.
(If he felt Chrisitianity was compatible with Democracy, then he would have worded that sentence differently.)

May 8th, 2008 at 1:29 pmSo, if religion is responsible for terrorism, and Rick Santorum and Osama bin Laden worship the same god, does that make Rick Santorum a member of a terrorist organization?

Shouldn’t Santorum restrict his public appearances to selling Bass-O-Matics on TV. In rural PA. Or maybe the far reaches of the Yukon?

May 8th, 2008 at 1:35 pmZooey,
I do apologize that your Senator won’t stop tapping, turn off the music and go home. I hear he’s trying to increase the value of his pension by sticking around to tap. Is there a dance school in town that will take him in as tap instructor?

May 8th, 2008 at 2:45 pmThe true beauty of Rick Santorum is that you do not need to respond to him. He does enough damage to himself by what comes out of his mouth!
May 8th, 2008 at 2:54 pmHe lost last November in Pa. for this exact reason.
The poor Inquirer has hit bottom. Realize they have to run op-eds, but it kind of leaves a stain.
May 8th, 2008 at 2:55 pmThis clown isn’t planning on running again is he?
May 8th, 2008 at 3:03 pmThe fact that this dip$hit even has a forum to spew his crap is mind-boggling.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:08 pmWho cares what Ricky Santorum thinks, he’s an idiot. That’s why he’s no longer in the Senate. He’s basically a jerk that has to have something or someone to attack or he isnt’ happy. I hate terrorist more than he does but I don’t have to call them names. I’d rather eliminate them with extreme prejudice than act like a girl and call them a name with they like. Rick Santorum is a fool who got caught up in party idealogy and can’t think for himself. He’s as much of a religious extremist as they are as far as I’m concerned. Rick Santorum, to paraphrase Marlon Brando in “On The Waterfront, “Im glad what the voters done to you” during the last election. “You coulda had class, you coulda been a Senator, but you’re a bum”, “A bum, That’s all a bum”.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:14 pmRick Santorum’s characterization of sharia law is inaccurate. He can get away with it because most Americans haven’t done any study of Islam or have any knowledge of the history of the Muslim world.
When we in the West hear the word “sharia” we immediately think of beheadings, cutting off the hands of thieves, etc. Yes, these have been elements of sharia law but they are not the entirety of it and there is much in Islamic law that improved the lives of women, orphans, the needy, etc.
It’s just not as “cut and dry” as Santorum and his ilk want you to think. Besides, Santorum for all intents and purposes is a THEOCRAT. Pot, kettle, anyone?
May 8th, 2008 at 3:45 pmWhy is it supposedly religious types, such as Santorum, cherry pick verses from the Bible to support their slanted view and ignore those that do not fit it? Then again, it seems to be a pattern with people like Santorum, Cheney, Bush, et al.
I am lucky enough to know some Muslims, both at work and in my neighborhood, and find they are some of the most kind and gentle folks I have ever met. We have had honest and deep discussions about religion which I found enlightening.
May 8th, 2008 at 4:24 pmEeew! He’s got Santorum all over his face.

That’s the thing. The Santorums of the world seem able, and willing, to judge other cultures by their sociopaths; while not applying the same standards to their own. They will even excuse identical behavior from their own culture and claim it’s “holy”. You will never see a Santorum shed a tear for an innocent from another culture.
And one more time for the slow folks. Religious rule can not exist in a fascist state. The two are mutually exclusive. Fascism is an extreme form of nationalism and nationalism, as practiced in Western cultures, is virtually nonexistent in Islam. Fascism is clearly defined and it’s not a synonym for “bad people”. Use of the term “Islamo-fascism” indicates a profound ignorance of politics, religion, sociology and the English language. Which explains why it’s embraced by the Religious Right and other Republicriminal sociopaths.

Isn’t the “word of God” , supposed to be immutable and everlasting ?
Huckleberry claimed the Constitution should be rewritten/reworded , to become more in sync with the Bible ; how is that acceptable to this mental furball , yet Islam is “whacky” to this ignorant , hypocritical nitwit ?
Religion is the single most destructive and useless concept on this planet…..

Article (2):1st — Islam is the official religion of the state and is a basic source of legislation:
(a) No law can be passed that contradicts the undisputed rules of Islam.
