Rep. Fossella to resign within next 72 hours.»

WNBC reports that Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY) is expected to announce his resignation “within the next 72 hours — if not late Friday then certainly by Monday.” On May 1, Fossella was arrested in Alexandria, VA, and charged with driving while intoxicated. Yesterday, he issued a statement admitting that he had an “extramarital affair with Laura Fay, a former Air Force lieutenant colonel, and that the two of them have a 3-year-old daughter together.”

As long as a scumbag republican can maintain the visage of “respectability,” then he has no need to actually be respectable. When that visage (brought to you by the MSM) is also compromised, it is finally revealed that there was, in fact, no respectable individual to begin with.

Only an illusion; the very strength of the republican master plan…

  2. hil_1 Says:

republicans doing shady stuff… is this really news anymore?

  3. blogenfreude Says:

What kind of Republican is he? Larry Craig is still cruising the Senate bathrooms, and David Vitter schtupped hookers for years! Democrats like Spitzer resign, but Family Values Republicans hang tight. Don’t do it Vito! You need to stay and continue your war against teh gayz!

You just gotta love those republican family values, huh?

  15. StratRat Says:

And then the mom is or was an Air Force officer. Doesn’t the Air Force academy have some issues with cadets who don’t adhere to the religious dogma espoused by the academy? I mean, if she is a christian, why is she screwing a married man? And if the congresscritter has been using his religion in his job as a representative, how come he had to bed another woman? The right side is the most convaluted and confused group of ‘christians’ I have ever seen. They want to control YOUR body, but they make sure they don’t follow the same rules. Can you say authoritarian? The GOP sucks, big time.

  16. misshusseinmolly Says:

I know that much will be made of Fossella’s extramarital affair and his child out of wedlock. But when it comes right down to it, that’s really nobody’s business except the people directly affected by it — himself, his wife, his family, Laura Fay, the child involved, and his God. It’s not ours.

What IS our business, whether he is a politician or Joe Citizen, is that he was driving with his blood-alcohol level TWICE the legal limit. This is a threat to public safety for which he must be accountable (not to mention against the law). Unfortunately, this transgression will get the back burner treatment while everybody goes ga-ga over his sex life.

I hope he doesn’t get off with just a slap on the wrist for this one.

  17. Uncle Ho Says:

RU; aaaaahhhhhh! I needed that. One toke over the line. :-)

I really question the soul of a man who wants his wife to stand next to him during those god-awful press conferences while he admits his guilt and begs for “forgiveness.” Frankly, most women worth their salt would turn such a scum bag out.

I would have to respectfully disagree. The reason being is that these folks wrap themselves up in God and country anytime it suits them or benefits them. Then, when the lights are off, they are screwing like rabbits - with other peoples wives and husbands. They are hypocrites in the highest order.

My feeling is that if citizens knew about all the differences between their words and their behavior, we might get a citizenry which better scrutinizes what their elected reps are up to. Maybe that would lead to a better informed - and more wary voters.

  20. upside99 Says:

Maybe when he goes to DUI Training School, they will also show him some films on safe sex while they have his (tiny) Repug brain open to new ideas.

NAWWWW, that would just get in the way of his future as another K Street lobbyist.

  21. Anne Says:

and another one bites the dust! How many more to go?

  22. JMOHR Says:

I can honestly live with a person having the occasional DUI on the part of an elected individual. Somehow shows that even the normal joe making a mistake should be given a second chance. The affair is a different affair. I would feel the way missmolly feels had it not been the Republicans who went after Clinton and declared themselves as the party of morality when so clearly they are not.

  23. Zooey Says:

Let the baby momma stand by this loser at the press conference. Sheesh…

I agree with StratRat on this one missmolly. These people need to be exposed for the hypocrites that they are.

OK, you have a point. I really don’t know that much about Fossella — whether he brays “family values” to pander to the evangelicals like many other Republicans, or whether he focuses more on GOP issues not having to do with sexual morality (like warmongering, shoveling money toward the rich, obsessing about flag pins, etc.). If he’s one of the former (like Larry Craig), then his hypocrisy IS the business of his constituents.

  27. Jeannie See Says:

Uncle Ho, I was able to view the video from home and you’re right, it’s must see. I don’t know why I couldn’t get it to work at the office.

(I’m IINB in case anyone’s forgotten)

Any elected Federal official should have enough sense not to drink and drive. There are limo’s, cabs, buses and the Metro there, as well as his lover who he ended up calling after he got caught. Must not be too many members of MADD here or they’d be skinning you alive right now.

Zoo, Better yet, have BOTH her and the good wifey flanking him, showing total support. Maybe even his Pastor and the head of the RNC could be up there as well. Now, that would be a C-Span worth watching! Heh Heh!

  30. RUCerious Says:

    Zooey Says:

Given that she’s an Airforce Lieutenant Colonel, she’s not really a baby momma. She’s the baby’s momma, true, but I suspect she’s not going to the press conference with him. I’d love to see her expression if she did, though. Wasn’t he on the way to see his kid when he was arrested. “Oh, look, Daddy’s bombed out of his skull!”

  33. Shayne Says:

If he was a Mormon like Mitt he could have both the mothers living in the same house so he could drink like a fish and play with the all the kids without having to drive drunk.

Kids just love that, when daddy comes to visit all wasted.

No, she’s a baby momma — have a baby with a married man, that’s your designation.

  36. Crusty Old Bastard Says:

These Repug butt wholes are going to throw my predicitions all to hell. By November there won’t be any Rethug incumbents left to get their collective ass thrown out of office.

    Maybe in Idaho. Pshaw.

The term generally implies that the mom gave birth when she was very young, and that the father didn’t marry her. He could easily not be married to anyone, and not even in the picture.

Maybe I missed something — I always thought that term applied to somebody who has a child while still a child herself (generally applied to unwed teen pregnancies). Regardless of the age or marital status of the father. Of course, I could be wrong…

Um…if he was a “Mormon like Mitt”, chances are he wouldn’t be drinking at all. Which in his case, would probably be a good thing.

  40. RUCerious Says:

After the messy divorce, my sincere hope is that this dickweed experiences at least a few months of being homeless, on the streets. He deserves a wake up call, and the alarm is ringing.

  41. Zooey Says:

I guess the lines on the “baby momma” issue are blurred in a sparsely populated state like Idaho. I heard used that way by the kids on campus. Fascinating listening, by the way. :|

Don’t count on it missmolly, it’s all those non-drinking Baptists in the south that keep the moonshine pumping.

  44. Shayne Says:

I think the term baby momma if a lot more fluid. I think it’s street for out of wedlock mothering where the father maintains a relationship with the mother and/or child or not. Even married men use it to refer to their wives when they’re trying to be … what’s the word for … groovy?

  45. dixie blood Says:

I’ve not read all of the previous, something I do religiously, so pardon me if this has been said.

Fossella is pure scum. Has been and will always be scum. The RePugniScum in NY state are corrupt to the core of their very being. And NY is a very corrupt state!!!!!

Oh! My bad. “Stepping down to spend more time with the family he ruined.”

    There.

  54. pluege Says:

the MSM needs to figure out which family he’s stepping down to spend time with. Without the taxpayer gig supporting him in his home away from home i’d wager on him staying with the SI family (stikes me as a slimy cheap guy unwilling to foot the bill to see his away from home family), but hey, maybe true love is in DC and he dumps the SI family.

Such decisions these republicans need to make.

  55. Cats r Flyfishn Says:

    Is this a Republican trifecta?

  56. blue state bob Says:

As a New Yorker, Vito has always been a stain on our Congressional delegation (Staten Island is a weird place, he represents them and also small parts of southern Brooklyn). Time to get behind Steve Harrison, he only lost by 7 points in 2006 being out spend something like 30 to 1.
