McCain likely to flip on promise to change GOP abortion platform.

In 2000, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) criticized George W. Bush during a debate for not being willing to make an exception for rape, incest, and the mother’s life in the Republican Party’s platform on abortion. Despite his prior position, ABC News reports that McCain is unlikely to change the platform to include the exception:

A senior Republican close to McCain told ABC News that building a more inclusive GOP is a top priority for the Arizona senator.

But this adviser does not see changing the party platform to include exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother as necessary for achieving that vision.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think you’re going to see a platform process that is going to maintain that plank,” said Sam Brownback (R-KS), a prominent pro-life senator.

McCain was against rape and incest before he was for it.

  2. Riesz Fischer says:

Why do you refer to Brownback as “pro-life”? He supports the invasion and occupation of Iraq which has resulted in the deaths of about 1 million civilians for nothing. “Pro-life” my ass.

    The correct term is “anti-abortion”.

  3. tom says:

If Babsy had only gotten an abortion after she was raped by that monkey at the zoo, GDumbya would never have been born and we wouldn’t be in the pickle we’re in.

As for McNumbNuts, he doesn’t care what the republican platform says. He will free-lance his own position on the issue and flip and flop until the cows come home.

  4. Badmoodman says:

#2: Why do you refer to Brownback as “pro-life”?

    – - “pro-life” as in pro-as-long-as-you’re-a-white-American-and-will-never-be-in-the-military-life.

Why do they continue to print comments from anonymous sources, even when those sources are saying positive things? It is unnecessary. What does a person saying something positive have to fear by going on record publicly? This is bad journalism.

The fact that a fundy nut like “Psycho Sam” can get elected depresses me beyond words. His ilk seem committed to a new Dark Age. How unjust it would be if the noble achievements of Modern Man are pissed away by frightened fools like Brownback.

  7. RUCerious says:

The first four words of the headline are undoubtedly true.
The rest, well McIIIrd was against being for rape and incest before and after he was against being for incest or rape exclusion. Hehe.

Gotta get all the little babies born, so they can grow up, get killed in a FUBAR war, and then cremated in a pet crematory.

Is it flip time again? I must have missed the last flop. Its getting so bad I can’t keep up with flips or the flops anymore.

Well, it will all end with McCain going flop anyway.

With all the wrong positions McCain has, abortion has to be on the bottom of his list. Who knows what he will say, or do?

  17. ignatov says:

Bush and the GOP were in power for 6 years unopposed, nominating judges all the while, and nothing changed about abortion. But still they string the religious right along, saying, “If we ever DO decide to prohibit abortion, you can bet your bottom dollar we won’t make exceptions for rape or incest victims!”

    Real nice.

Republican warnings about left-wing liberals might carry more weight if they could point to one – just one – positive thing that right-wing conservatives have accomplished in the last seven years.

All the coaching and note cards on earth won’t help that old fool McCain get his “positions” straight for debating Obama on ANY topic come this fall. You can’t spin away stupid.

  21. Badger says:

Newt Gingrich, the man who engineered the Republican takeover of the House in 1994, warned his fellow Republicans on Tuesday that they faced disastrous losses in November without a quick change in political course.

Mr. Gingrich, a former speaker, urged House Republicans to convene an emergency meeting in the wake of Saturday’s loss of a longtime Republican House seat in Louisiana.

The loss in Louisiana was the second special-election defeat this year in a Republican stronghold. Party officials said that a third defeat next week, in a Republican district in Mississippi, could cause turmoil.

  22. Freedom Rebel says:

McCain supports overturning Roe v. Wade and banning abortion except in cases of rape, incest or threat to the life of the mother. He has an anti-abortion voting record and has promised, if elected, to appoint Supreme Court justices who “strictly interpret the Constitution of the United States and do not legislate from the bench.” He did not favor a repeal of Roe v. Wade during his 2000 primary campaign.

This is from John McCain’s website as of today. John is so senile who knows what he thought they were asking him.

Trying to get the truth out of McCain is a contradiction in terms. He is always saying one thing and meaning something else according to him. You can’t ever believe anything that comes out of his mouth, he flip-flops more than a fish out of water.

Since the Repukes love to invoke an extremely rare hypothetical to justify torture (i.e., you’ve detained a suspect you believe can provide information regarding an imminent attack), why don’t you trolls try this one on for size?

Your wife or daughter is brutally raped and beaten, only to discover a few weeks later that she has become pregnant . Her status with regard to STDs will remain unknown for several more months.

    What are your options?

If John McCorpse and his Rethuglican buddies have their way, your wife or daughter WILL carry that child to term, regarding of its impact on their lives, including educational and/or career plans.

If there are early indications that the fetus is deformed, good luck finding someone to adopt it. Guess what? You’ll be paying to support that extra child for the rest of your life. Under such a scenario, you’d better start looking for a second and third job, and forget about ever retiring.

And if it becomes a matter of the pregnancy threatening the life of your wife or daughter, you’d better say good bye to her, including any and all hopes for the future that included her.

Perhaps if you are a loyal enough Repuke, knowing that John McCorpse and his buddies John Hagee and Rod Parsley approve of your actions will more than compensate for your loss.

Additional comment to Post #28 –

Think that just because you are wealthy, that under the scenario presented in #28, you’ll just travel out of the country with your wife or daughter and have the abortion performed where it is still legal? Think again.

If the Repukes are truly serious about this, you’ll have to seek permission from the Federal government to leave the country, which would include pregnancy tests of all females of child-bearing age.

Better save up for that addition to your home.

Additional thought: If those in your social circles are aware that you had a vasectomy done years ago, and your wife is obviously pregnant, be prepared for the questions that are certain to arise. So much for privacy.

    That needs repeating.

There’s another set of options you left out.

    1) Your wife or daugther could seek an illegal abortion in the back of a barber shop.

    2) Your wife or daughter could try to self abort using any of the following:

    Coat hanger
    Soda applied
    Clorox applied
    Gasoline applied
    Suicide

Roe vs. Wade favored saving one over the other and not losing both the mother and child as it was with illegal abortion.
