In an interview with a local ABC affiliate, Politico’s Mike Allen discussed his interview with President Bush yesterday, in which Bush said he has given up golf because of the Iraq war. Describing Bush’s “upbeat” mood about his presidency, Allen said it makes him realize that Bush “must not read the papers or watch TV much”:
ALLEN: The president’s physically aged in the last seven years, but he still seems to have a spring in his step. He says he still enjoys the job. Makes me realize that he must not read the papers or watch TV much. He says he only watches sports.
Watch it:
The “spring” in Bush’s “step” might be a little less pronounced if he read in the news that his job disapproval rating is the worst of any president in history.

Yeah, Chimpy, all that ignorance *must* be blissful.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:21 amBush isn’t “happy”. It’s called mania.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:21 amBush’s ’spring in his step’ implies ‘he must not read the papers or watch TV much.’
- - Or he’s a self-absorbed, arrogant elitist who feels he can do no wrong. Or… he just watches Nickelodeon.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:22 amBush can read?
May 14th, 2008 at 11:25 amre: “spring in his step” - there are perks to being the village idiot. (Now why do I keep picturing him in a court jester’s outfit?)
Or maybe he just finally got his knees fixed after his injury in 2003, which, coincidentally, took him out of sports just about the same time he decided to give up golf to “support the troops”

May 14th, 2008 at 11:26 amYeah, I get a “spring in my step” when I drink, too.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:27 amHe says he still enjoys the job
It’s not a job if you’re not actually performing your duties. The only work he does is rubber stamping Cheney’s wishes; otherwise he’s a $400,000-a-year couch potato.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:32 amLet’s see:
Gas prices currently are unheard of.
Economy slumping deeper and deeper into a recession.
Crime is up.
Jobs are down.
Over 4000 of our brave men and women gone forever.
Countless others permanently injured (physically and mentally).
Absolutely no resolve in Iraq.
Osama Bin Forgotten still at large.
Nearly every country hates us.
And he has a friggin’ spring in his step???
May 14th, 2008 at 11:33 amBITE ME!!!!!!
I have to sympathize with you, DRxJ. Gas prices are bad enough in an economically booming area, but for someone to have to deal
May 14th, 2008 at 11:37 amwith $4.00 gas in the most economically depressed state in the nation, that’s terrible.
this is not news.
long ago he told brit hume in an interview he doesn’t read the papers.
he surrounds himself with people who tell him what he wants to hear.
thus the spring in his step.
;)
May 14th, 2008 at 11:38 amwhat else could you expect from the idiot-in-chief who confessed that he is comfortable living in a bubble?
May 14th, 2008 at 11:38 amAllen: Bush’s ’spring in his step’ implies ….
- - …he’s a little light in the loafers?
May 14th, 2008 at 11:39 ambush should be running low on people who keep his bubble going, they are all running for the hills to not be caught in the crimes of bush/cheney administration.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:41 amAllen: Bush’s ’spring in his step’ implies ‘he must not read the papers or watch TV much.’
Ho only watches the GOP Network , aka FAUX Comedy Channel and has one of Rupert Murdick’s-owned newspapers read to him……..
May 14th, 2008 at 11:42 ammike allen is a puppy on ritalin.

May 14th, 2008 at 11:43 amIt shows the fallacy of the “elect a President you’d have a beer with” mentality that the press still pushes.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:44 amPresident Bush only watches sports on TV, that is all his little brain can handle. There is no thinking involved, that works. Why should he have any interest in what is happening around the world. He has all the entertainment (torture, meetings about torture, starting another war)he needs right in his own country.
He has a spring in his step because he has gotten away with every criminal act known to mankind. He is one seriously twisted messed up individual and he has surrounded himself with others that are just like him. The future looks bright when you are not held accountable for your actions.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:47 amI have been noticing this for a while now. especially when McCain met Bush in the white house a few weeks ago!
How can Bush think we would like to see his aloof azz dancing?
We have our best and brightest dying for oil in Iraq, our economy is in the tubes, the cost of food and gas is going up at a scary rate….
Meanwhile…George Bush’s investments in Dubai, just like Cheney and even the Clintons make even more profits for them while us Americans hold on for dear life.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:47 amAllen is surprised by this?!? With all due respect, where has he been for the past four-odd years…under a rock?!? As far back as 2003, Bush stated on the record that he doesn’t read the newspapers and doesn’t watch the news on television — he relies on aides to do it for him and give him the high points. Ironically, at the time, he stated that his reason for doing this is because he doesn’t trust the news media to give him the true facts…
“I get my news from people who don’t editorialize…they give me the actual news, and it makes it easier to digest, on a daily basis, the facts.” (George W. Bush — December 2003)
…but over the past four-odd years since then, it’s become quite blatantly obvious that George W. Bush has little or no respect for anyone or anything that conflicts with his own agenda and his own personal vision of the way things ought to be. Since there’s no doubt that the members of his staff know this, there’s every reason to believe that the news which has been conveyed to him by his aides — or at least, those who’ve managed to keep their jobs — through the years has been selectively edited or even distorted to at least some extent in order to coincide with his vision and placate his ego. More than a few people have suggested over the years that Bush is metaphorically living in a bubble, and the fact that he apparently doesn’t bother to seek the facts on his own only supports that idea. It’s probably one of the only logical explanations for Bush’s “upbeat mood” — the other being that we have a president in the Oval Office who’s quite literally flat-out insane.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:51 amMost of the commentary is understandably cynical given the history we have with Bush as president. Really though, could he be that deaf, dumb and blind? I don’t think so. He is the consummate politician, saying what is expedient. After all, if he is down in attitude he undermines any chance the Rethugs have for the 2008 elections.
So, the obvious said, let’s appreciate the fact that in January, 2009 when he steps into oblivion, he has to live with the horror that he has perpetrated on the U.S. and the world.Pay back soon.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:57 amMaybe that ‘Spring in his step’ is his knowing what a devious, treasonous plot he and five deferment Dick have planned before Jan 09′.
He is not to be trusted.
He knows things are bad for us right now, he just doesn’t care.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:05 pmthere’s a spring in his step because HE DOES NOT CARE. Thtings are good in his ‘hood, so the rest of the world naturally is fine because what’s good for him is good for all.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:05 pmcheck this out. Mike Gravel and Frank Zappa think Alike!

May 14th, 2008 at 12:07 pmzappa gravel
Clueless George.
The saddest thing in all this is that we, the citizens, have not rallied–and did not rally earlier–to remove this cretin from the White House. He’s an idiot and a fool–but we’re no better for not standing up and demanding his removal from office. He’s to blame because we’re to blame.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:09 pmSpring in his step?..Give me a break..Bull shit bush has had a a slinkie where the sun don’t shine since he’s been in office….Only crazies run around happy when they have caused this much evil…..Blessings
May 14th, 2008 at 12:10 pmto 22. gus smith
Appreciate that it’s only 8 more months of this administration? I’m terrified by it. He will never appreciate the devastation he has caused. And he will not be paid back in this lifetime. He will live out his life comfortably and without a care in the world. THAT’S WHY HE HAS A SPRING IN HIS STEP.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:14 pmJohn Gotti used to walk with a spring in his step too when he was evading the long arm of the law. That cockiness came to a hurried end when he was finally thrown in jail. I’d like to see the Chimp’s spring in his step during his perp walk.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:17 pmhoutum misquotes. “Appreciate that it’s only 8 more months of this administration?” I never said I ‘appreciate’ in that sense. I will appreciate that in Jan. 2009 he is gone to face his fate. Please do not spin, unless you are a Rethug and it is expected.

One difference ……………..Gotti had a high approval rating among the people , and was considered charming by many.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:22 pmGet a hold of yourselves. Of course Bush has a spring in his step. First, he does not give a sh+t about the problems of the common person, they are on their own (mortgage crisis, Katrina, stagnant and falling wages.) Second, his friends and supporters are doing just fine. After all, they are being treated to a massive shift in wealth from the common man directly into their pockets. Third, Bush is set for life. Why should he not enjoy all the perks of the office. It will not be his problem after January.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:25 pmBush has also ‘mentally aged’ in the past seven years. He has no concept of the world around him.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:26 pmAnd John McCain, who wants to be like him, is already mentally aged.
Hoo, Boy
[Bush] says he only watches sports.
Hmmmm. That could explain his abysmal job performance and his poor ratings.
Maybe if he tried readin’ those PDB’s instead?
Or maybe not.
All the information in Christendom is useless if the person reading it doesn’t give a damn.
Furthermore, the person in question also needs to know how to read….
May 14th, 2008 at 12:28 pmThe “spring” in Bush’s “step” might be a little less pronounced if he read in the news that his job disapproval rating is the worst of any president in history.
This is a man that was born ignorant and has been losing ground ever since.

May 14th, 2008 at 12:29 pmA spring in his step? So he’s uppity?
May 14th, 2008 at 12:30 pmBush = Narcissistic personality disorder?
May 14th, 2008 at 12:30 pmIf Bush has a spring in his step, and appears to be upbeat, there are some possible explanations:
1) His efforts to insulate himself from anything he doesn’t want to hear have paid off. This includes his “shoot the messenger” methodology that all his staffers hate.
2) He’s got his escape to Paraguay all planned out and ready to be implemented just as soon as the hammer falls.
3) He truly has been Cheney’s puppet and he’s clueless.
4) He’s abusing substances. And what he’s been smoking has been some REEEEEEEEEALLY good sh!t.
5) He’s batsh!t insane.
Take your best guesses, folks…
May 14th, 2008 at 12:32 pmLet’s face it - George W Bush has accomplished everything he set out to do when he first decided to run for president. He has destroyed the entire concept of what we Americans deluded ourselves into thinking we stood for; and has exposed our government for what it really is - a tool of corporate greed with total disregard for human beings. Our glorious Constitution has been gutted by those in power (all three branches of the Federal government), and the people have done nothing - many even applaud the demise of the rule of (what was once our) law.
Emblematic of Bush’s desire to cause the most harm to the most people is the recent reaction to Congress’s efforts to stem the demand for oil by stopping adding to the government reserves - Dana Perino announced Bush was for INCREASING the reserves.
Personally, I think he’s just sadistic.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:33 pmI doubt very much that he feels bad for anyone else in the slightest. He doesn’t have to worry about money, he’s convinced that in 50 years history will vindicate him and he’s too shallow to care about anything other than his ego.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:36 pmTrying to find one thing bush has done for the good of the American people, all I can come up with is, he has brought down the Republican Party. They are wealthier but what a smear to admit being a republican.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:47 pmgus smith
May 14th, 2008 at 12:49 pmI should have just left your name out of it. No spin intended.
The problem with Bush is he doesn’t care about polls, about the American people, or the American troops. He thinks that history will judge him favorably based on the legacy of Richard Nixon. But If I were him, I wouldn’t be so positive. I think his approval rating are the lowest in American history, which makes him the worst President in history. That in itself is a sad commentary about Bush. He’s let Cheney and the other idiots in his cabinet convince him that job approval doesn’t matter. You can only stand on what you consider as principle for so long before it colaspses and you end up in the junk heep of history. Which is exactly where Bush deserves to be. Only a complete fool would stand by while the economy is a disaster, gas prices go over $4.00 a gallon, the housing and mortage market are toast, and his party is losing it’s ass. Come on even a retarded person knows when to move out of a bad situation. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to demean retarded people to comparing them to Bush. They are far more intelligent than he is or ever will be. And besides they have a legitimate reason for their short comings.

May 14th, 2008 at 12:55 pmit will take 50 years to get the nasty taste of bush out of American’s minds. Some compassion should go to his girls.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:11 pmHere’s one stark example of how effing useless Bush, the GOP and their business-partners in crime have been:
Whilst Washington argues about the practicality (or otherwise of) of a temporary gas tax rebate in response to the soaring price of oil and gasoline, the UK is starting to build a wave-power generator in the Severn and a Welsh company is working on another one to be anchored a few miless of the coast.
Another Welsh company “has invested $24 million in a factory to produce a CO2 emissions-cutting engine component that can be retrofitted to commercial vans. The system saves both fuel and an estimated 25 percent of carbon emissions on diesel home-delivery vans” (This gadget is up for a major engineering prize).
“G24 Innovations makes silicon-free thin film solar cells to charge mobile phones, the company is planning to install a massive wind turbine in its parking lot later this year.
That will enable the factory to run on renewable energy and eventually sell electricity back to the grid _ making it one of the first factories in the world to use renewable energy to make a renewable product.”
(This info nabbed from Raw Story/AP)
The Severn project has a lot of government funding, the others mentioned here are all private enterprises with some Welsh government funding.
Jobs are being created and SOMETHING is ACTUALLY being done about renewable/sustainable energy production and efficiency of consumption.
Meanwhile in the US… crickets chirp.

I don’t know if this is an option anymore. Paraguay just took a major turn to the left, and Bush may no longer be welcome. Unless the jackals get to Fernando Lugo, of course.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:32 pmMaybe Bush DOES pay attention to the media, and just doesn’t give a damn what is going on with most of the country. His ultra-wealthy and neo-con base are happy, so that’s all he cares about. He’ll make a ton of money doing speeches after he leaves the White House.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:32 pmThe detached idiot doesn’t care. Since when has this freak cared? He has blatantly lied and stolen from us. He doesn’t care! Why should he? The criminal loser Commander in Chief of the failed Iraq War never has cared! As long as the rich keep getting richer he’ll be in power. This idiot deserves to be tried jailed and EXECUTED!
He has decided not to play golf anymore? Because of the Criminmal War? He’s afraid he might pop the bubble with a swing! “it’s very comfortable in the bubble” With all the lies and deaths of innocent people the bubble is about to pop!
Thanks to Bush so many INNOCENT people have died!
I live to see the day this IDIOT is publicly humiliated and exposed for all his crimes. All that followed by the most horrible of all deaths. When it comes to lying, crime, having people killed, and bringing ruin to this great nation, Bush is and has been THE MOST EXTREME!
May 14th, 2008 at 1:38 pmDaTruth - bush is the tip of the whole corrupt administration, he is too dumb to know his own supporters used him. If he ever realized that, it will bring him down more than trials and jail.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:49 pmSomething tells me Bush is not going to be worried regardless if he reads the polls or not.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:55 pmIt’s hard work to read. He found that out first hand when he read My Pet Goat to those kids in school, and he swore to never read again. He now only looks at pictures.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:21 pmI don’t think Bush has the intelectual capacity for understand TV…
May 14th, 2008 at 2:47 pmAnd I guess the coke, Jack Daniels, a bag of Cheetos, and watching ‘Gun Smoke’ really helps the Delusional-in-chief to tune out his plummeting poll numbers and how much he is bankrupting this country.

Personally, I’ve always considered it significant that Bush has a childhood history of cruelty to animals considering the fact that there’s a fairly strong statistical correlation between that and sociopathic traits in adulthood…
May 14th, 2008 at 5:51 pmSeriously, his dyslexia makes reading difficult. That is why he likes others to just tell him a short summary of what they have read. Plus he doesn’t like people who disagree with him. Telling him that he’s wrong will cost you your job.
