Cindy McCain sells off $2 million in Sudan investments.

In an April 24, 2007 speech on energy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) criticized China for opposing sanctions in Darfur, saying that the reason it refused to do so was because “China needs Sudan’s oil.” Now, in a moment of irony, the AP reports that McCain’s wife, Cindy, just “sold off more than $2 million in mutual funds” whose holdings include companies that do business in Sudan’s oil industry:

According to McCain’s personal financial disclosure, Cindy McCain’s investments include two mutual funds — American Funds Europacific Growth fund and American Funds Capital World Growth and Income fund — that are listed by the Sudan Divestment Task Force as targets for divestment.

“Those have been sold as of today,” said McCain spokesman Brian Rogers.

Both funds have holdings in Oil & Natural Gas Corp., an India-based company that does business in Sudan. The American Funds Capital World Growth & Income Fund also has holdings in Petrochina, a Chinese government-owned oil company with vast investments in Sudan.

Despite the fact that her vast wealth has been used to benefit her husband’s campaign, Ms. McCain said recently that she will never release her tax returns, even if she becomes First Lady.

    Well, how very nice.

Now, Cindy – COUGH UP THOSE TAX RETURNS!!!

  2. JMOHR says:

No wonder why will never see her tax returns. It would expose her extensive investments in those companies involved with child pornograph, sex trafficking, illicit drugs and other nefarious activities.

  3. Leftside Annie says:

Interesting, isn’t it – McJowls has been running for prez for a year now – but it’s only today that those investments were sold off…?

One might speculate that the blood-soaked profits on those funds made them worth hanging on to for that year’s time, and that Mrs. McCain has only developed moral qualms now that the profit margin has decreased to an unacceptable level.

  4. Jeannie See says:

Yea, releasing those tax returns could prove a HUGE embarrassment for McCain.

  5. MapleStreet says:

I’m just paranoid enough (I call it realistic) to wonder if this means a missle if Sudan has just been given to KBR.

  6. Shayne says:

So Cindy isn’t part of the straight talk express?

Is it time for another face-lift already ?

No. She and her husband have maintained separate expresses for 28 years of marriage. They have filed their express schedules separately and their expresses have virtually nothing to do with each other.

Cindy’s is that “Cha-Ching! Express” and John’s I believe has recently been renamed the “Pander Express”.

  9. pete says:

Perhaps Cindy knows, in her heart(?), that she doesn’t need to seriously consider the possibility of being First Lady?

  10. Leftside Annie says:

I think we ought to send Teresa Heinz Kerry over to her house to beat Cindy up.

  11. Chocolate Jesus says:

    >Now, Cindy – COUGH UP THOSE TAX RETURNS!!!

How much you want to bet that many of the lobbyist payoffs to MCcain over the years have been going through Cindy?

  12. nanlichi says:

OT, sorry, but Edwards endorsed Obama.

McCain threads are interesting, but that old fart doesn’t have a chance in hell.

  13. Leftside Annie says:

    Sorry, CJ, that’s a sucker bet. :o(

  14. texaslady says:

Well, maybe Edwards will be rewarded…Obama has ideals but will that be strong enough to get the stench out of the White House? We need someone who can be a street fighter.

  15. ralph the wonder llama says:

    Annie, you’re kinda aggro today.

    I like it.

That’s probably the shape of things. If they’ve been using smart accountants no money need ever change hands. It probably goes something like this: John votes for an appropriation to an electronics firm. The firm decides it would be “good advertising” to give Cindy’s plane a state of the art electronics suite. John gets free use of the plane.

Of course, if they’ve been greedy, expect a lot more “divestments”. I wonder how hard it is to cook books to make a few million 12 packs of nonexistent beer disappear at “company picnics”?

  17. Uncle Ho says:

Is she giving all or part of that $2,000,000 to survivors of genocide?

    If not, why not?

    Didn’t Mcjowls call his wife a c*nt?

    sums it up quite nicely.

    – - Even the right-wing Washington Times scolded Ms. McCain over this:

“Cindy McCain refuses to release her tax returns. This is not just a questionable political decision that threatens to haunt her husband’s campaign for the next six months. It is also the wrong decision. Mrs. McCain needs to change her mind and release the returns as quickly as possible. How Republican John McCain, the presumptive presidential nominee who rightly fancies himself the king of transparency on Capitol Hill, and his campaign strategists can permit this open sore to fester is unimaginable.”

Beer distributors have a huge cash flow every day, many stores pay in cash, out of date beer has to be destroyed,so of course a loss. Hard to track so much cash.

  20. LeslieB says:

How elitist, Cindy made money off genocide.

  21. Chocolate Jesus says:

    >John McCain thinks you and I belong to Hamas.

Can’t beleive Stewart missed the chance to force McCain to admit Hamas is the FREELY, DEMOCRATICALLY elected government of Palestine.
Then again he seems to have a genuine fondness for mccain which would keep him from askking any tuff question..

I just wish someone would ask McCain “so what do we tell the families of all the american soldiers who died if the IRaqi’s use their freedom put hamas or an organization like it in charge of their country?”

  22. Jess Wonderin says:

    Come on Cindy . . . show me yours and I show you MINE . . . .
