The Politico reports that today on the House floor, House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) was overheard revealing his aggressive strategy for investigating Karl Rove:

conyers3.jpg Just off the House floor today, the Crypt overheard House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers tell two other people: “We’re closing in on Rove. Someone’s got to kick his ass.”

Asked a few minutes later for a more official explanation, Conyers told us that Rove has a week to appear before his committee. If he doesn’t, said Conyers, “We’ll do what any self-respecting committee would do. We’d hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested.”

Conyers said the committee wants Rove to testify about his role in the imprisonment of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman, among other things.

“We want him for so many things, it’s hard to keep track,” Conyers said.

    I’m wondering if the three losses the Republicans suffered in recent special elections is enough to finally give the Democrats some spine. I suspect they haven’t used Inherent Contempt because they were worried that the public would react negatively. But now that we have the Republicans on the run, perhaps they will use Inherent Contempt on Rove and then Meiers and Bolton. And once that’s done, IMPEACHMENT. Having Bush/Cheney under articles of impeachment is the only way that Congress can stop them from bombing Iran and declaring Marshal law.

    We walk a fine line on the internet, a place where anyone can be anything they want, and trolls abound, allowed to express their antisocial tendencies without fear of meaningful reprisal. Mr.King and ninja97, both internet trolls, need this forum to vent their antisocial tendencies because in the real-world, they’d get their ass handed to them on a silver platter…

    Places like Redstate and Free Republic quash dissent in a way that echoes what ninja97 would like posters to believe goes on here…voice a single liberal opinion, and people like Moe on Redstate shut you down in a heartbeat. It won’t even take that long if you disagree with the Anointed One (That’s George W. Bush). The reality is that we have to find that fine line between no enforcement (ThinkProgress of a year ago) and excessive enforcement (Redstate). Just enough to let the non-bat-$#!+-insane posters on the Right side have their say, but enough that people like Mr.King and ninja97 can’t get away with totally flooding and derailing conversation, and chasing off the regulars.

    Ninja97 rails against what happened to its fellow sockpuppet Mr.King. The reality is that what I saw quoted was more than enough grounds for losing your voice in a civilized forum, so I don’t exactly feel sorry for it. I’d ask it what its’ opinions on Rove are, but I know it would just die to bask in the pale glow of Rove’s presence. After all, Rove is its hero. Maybe when the Democrats take an overwhelming majority in the House and Senate this Fall, or better, Bush is shown the door after an impeachment that may be the only way for Senate and House Republicans to reverse their fortunes, maybe ninja97 can become an hero itself…. :)

    Until then, we have to put up with its crap only so far. It’s close to that line with me, and obviously crossed with others. Let’s see if it can read the Terms of Use and figure out what it must do to stay. I doubt it…

Rove has divided the nation like no other and he has used that division to increase the liklihood of a permanent republican majority.     I am actually hoping for an Obama victory and more of a substantial Democratic majority in the Congress. If that happens, any failure to act beyond ‘09 will only mean one thing; there was no substance behind the charges.

    barfly. I like Obama on about half the issues. And I think it’s inevitable that Democrats will pick up seats in the Congress. For those reasons, a won’t lament Democrat victories. But, I will be curious if they follow through with the impeachments, because there would (or should) be no excuse not too. If they don’t, it should be taken as a signal, that all the rhetoric was false pandering - with no substance behind it.

    BTW, I’ll also be curious, how many of Bush’s policies Obama would reverse. It’s one thing to call for the troops to come home. It’s another to actually bring them home and leave a power vacuum. A vacuum that would ingnite a greater genocide that many would hold him responsible for.
