Lawmakers Respond To Bush: ‘Bullsh*t’ And ‘Malarkey’ That Is ‘Beneath The Dignity’ Of The Oval Office

In strong terms today, Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE), the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, criticized President Bush’s remarks to the Israeli parliament that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Democrats favor a policy of appeasement toward terrorists. Biden said it was “bullsh*t” and “malarkey” for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country “and make this kind of ridiculous statement.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) directed sharp words towards the president as well, saying that Bush’s comments were “‘beneath the dignity of the office of the president and unworthy of our representation” at the celebration of Israel’s 60th anniversary. Watch it:

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel also noted that Bush had broken from the tradition that “when a U.S. president is overseas, partisan politics stops at the water’s edge.” “President Bush has now taken that principle and turned it on its head: for this White House, partisan politics now begins at the water’s edge,” said Emanuel. He added, “Does the president have no shame?

In a statement, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said: “Not surprisingly, the engineer of the worst foreign policy in our nation’s history has fired yet another reckless and reprehensible round.”

Earlier today, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) said that Bush “ought to apologize to the American people” while noting that the “Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense have both favored negotiations with Iran.”

That’s what you get from a cokehead sock-puppet president. There has never been a moment when any decision was made/action taken by the Cheney administration that was not political at its core.

We anxiously await condemnation for Bush from the Malkins, Bennetts, and other right-wing pundits who had a conniption about democrats who spoke politically while out of the country. Didn’t you all roar about how disgusting it was, and that rightfully, all politics should end at the US border?

No shame ,no conscience,no brain that’s Bush,,,,counting those days until January 20th.

Ironically many Israelis want peace talks.

The poll [2008, carried out by the Dialog company and published in the left-leaning Haaretz daily, showed that 64 percent of Israelis believe Israel should talk to Hamas now to bring a halt to the steady barrage of rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and to win the release of a captured soldier, Cpl. Gilad Schalit.Only 28% rejected talks with Hamas</blockquote

It’s just a little Bush family projection about the Nazis: Bush’s grandfather, Prescott Bush, and Bush’s great-grandfather, George Herbert Walker, were both cheerleaders for Hitler and the Nazis in the 1930s and the 1940s until FDR stopped their trading with the Nazis in 1942 by invoking the Trading with the Enemy Act.

when I was a kid we often went to a park with seals. you could buy a stinky little bag of fish and go over to the tank and feed the seals.

Bush doesn’t know or doesn’t care that what he’s saying is out of bounds. he just knows that the seals will bark and clap for more.

    I hope he’s wrong.

  20. oldtree says:

sharp words? Bullshit. None of these people called for his immediate impeachment. Until they do, they have to be considered fascist supporters. Words mean nothing any longer folks.

Oh and signing statements , preemptive war, running secret prisons abroad ,spying en masse without a warrant on the American people , undoing habeas corpus and posse comitatus ,and torturing aren’t beneath dignity of the office Miss Nancy “no impeachment” Pelosi?
This congress fails to employ the constitutional remedy to the most disapproved of President in our history as a democracy !
Correct me if I am wrong but I believe without impeachment this president cannot be tried for crimes committed while in office !
Nancy you are a constitutional crisis !A million dead in Iraq on hyped falsehoods and still no blow job.

  23. nanlichi says:

“Does the president have no shame?”

To pile on what techsong said,

    No shame
    No honor
    No dignity
    No worth
    No military record
    No success

But he has collected a lot of hate and bitterness. And he will be remembered long after he has left the office he squatted in for 8 years.

  35. Red Pill says:

Holy God, TP!! The Obama campaign itself issued a civil and decimating retort to Bush’s idiotic claims, and you don’t link to the retort from the FRONTRUNNER? WTF?

If you won’t post it, I will. From Obama today:

It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 60th anniversary of Israel’s independence to launch a false political attack. It is time to turn the page on eight years of policies that have strengthened Iran and failed to secure America or our ally Israel. Instead of tough talk and no action, we need to do what Kennedy, Nixon and Reagan did and use all elements of American power — including tough, principled, and direct diplomacy — to pressure countries like Iran and Syria. George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists, and the President’s extraordinary politicization of foreign policy and the politics of fear do nothing to secure the American people or our stalwart ally Israel.

  38. mary says:

I’ll try this on this thread (it never appeared on another thread) – basically, this may whip up the “conservatives” and drive them to the polls if the usual suspects – you know, the ones with radio and tv programs to spout their hatefulness – use this as a theme.

It could also unite the Democrats and bring Independents over to Obama’s camp.

What it probably won’t do is unite this country.

  39. Leftside Annie says:

Bush is a spoiled, petulant, whining, stupid, sociopathic barstid.

And there’s a lot more ’sharp words’ where those came from.

  40. Chuck Feney says:

From the ghost of Rummy back on August 31, 2006:

“…the only American politician Rumsfeld mentioned was the late Sen. William Borah, who upon hearing of Hitler’s 1939 invasion of Poland sighed: “Lord, if only I could have talked with Hitler, all this might have been avoided.” Borah was a Republican isolationist, so perhaps we can understand the aforementioned Democrats’ indignation…

  41. freeman says:

911 is the day the USA as the worlds leading terrorist state overthrew the democratically elected government of Chile 30000 were killed and 250 000 tortured in secret concentration camps and all with the support of the US government and the CIA , an organization responsible directly for the deaths of millions of people world wide .
The CIA just attempted a coup in I believe 2004 in venezuala , which failed as a result of such a massive outcry and response from the citizenry that the plotters returned the president unharmed several days later for fear of the reprisals !

  42. backup says:

Okay, come on, you have to see this:

Democrats are lamenting the President’s remarks as ‘beneath the dignity of the office, but you have Biden (former candidate for president, and current senior Democrat leader) using – bullsh:t – to make the charge.

Separate for the President’s comments (and BTW, he didn’t mention Obama or Clinton – he just said ’some’), can’t anyone here see the irony of this post calling the president’s comments beneath the dignity of the office and Biden responding with ‘bullsh:t’?

Does profanity somehow elevate the level of Biden’s senate office?

  43. freeman says:

    VICTOR JARA LIVES !

as 5-deferment Dickhead Cheney said, Go F**K yourself!

  46. Chuck Feney says:

William Edgar Borah was a Republican U.S. senator from Idaho for 33 years, best known for his major role at the end of World War I (1918) in preventing the United States from joining the League of Nations and the World Court.

Sounds like he and Georgie were cut from the same cloth.

  47. backup says:

And separately, I know Pelosi misspoke, but if you watch the clip, she explains that they have a custom not to criticize the President when he’s on foreign soil. (He’s currently on foreign soil today, BTW). Then in the next breath, she explains that the President’s comments are beneath the dignity of the oval office. So, there’s a custom not to criticize, but I’m going to do it anyway.

I think Bush’s comments are being way overblown by Democrats today. I also believe it signals an insecurity in regards to this issue.

Regardless of that, I think this incident could spark some much needed debate on how we should deal with those that (most feel) Bush has refused to negotiate with (ie. Hamas, Iran, North Korea, etc.)

  48. ralph the wonder llama says:

Cap’n, I don’t think you really understand the concept of “irony”.

As Uncle Ho pointed out, the obscenity bar was lowered a long, long time ago. Now we’re talking not about bad language, but of poor taste, inappropriate venue, and lack of respect.

No, I don’t think Joe Biden can be accused of irony.

  49. ralph the wonder llama says:

Yeah, you’re right, Cappy. Let’s continue to observe the rules of decorum while the other side throws them out the window. That’s the way to make your point.

  53. nygenxer says:

It’s high time for censure. From:

    http://www.senate.gov/reference/reference_index_subjects/Censure_vrd.htm

“Less severe than expulsion, a censure (sometimes referred to as condemnation or denouncement) does not remove a senator from office. It is a formal statement of disapproval, however, that can have a powerful psychological effect on a member and his/her relationships in the Senate. In 1834, the Senate censured President Andrew Jackson – the first and only time the Senate censured a president. Since 1789 the Senate has censured nine of its members.”

  54. RUCerious says:

Wouldn’t ya just love to see a BushitCo approval poll consisting of the members of Congress?

But how dare you use the word b***shit?

The kids can watch waterboarding but get out the earmuffs when someone says a bad word.

Take a deep breath, my Democrat friends, you’re hypocritical attacks against Bush for disagreeing with ’some’ that believe negotiating with terrorists is a mistake, looks more like an insecure overreaction.

  68. texaslady says:

  70. backup says:

BTW, here are the words that many here find ‘notorious’:

“Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along,” Bush said.

  71. nanlichi says:

Let me see where my worldview is so skewed:

Lied to his country to start his war? Check.
    Torture? Check.
    Prison camps? Check.
Abuse of Executive Privilege? Pat Tillman weighs in on this one and says….Check.
Outing a spy for political gain? Check.

Seems pretty solid, but then again I don’t get my “worldview” from Faux News and hate radio jocks.

I don’t deny that I hate Bush. But I come by it honestly and sincerely, not ideologically. Bush is the worst person ever, and I will celebrate his leaving.

  72. nanlichi says:

In front of a Jewish audience, for me these are the odious words:

We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.

Eat shit backup. Bush is comparing Democrats and especially Obama to Nazi appeasers, no matter how you spin it. Even his staff says that that is what was intended.

  73. nellieh says:

Isn’t “Bullsh*t and Malarkey” redundant? Why is it taking the Democrats so long to voice opinions this strongly? Is this the first stupid thing this stupid idiot has said? (is that redundant?) Only now because it is the political season they want to seem like the same kind of faux macho a$$hole Bush is. Bush has been using Congress as his personal piniata. And they just take it. Democrats in charge my ass. They were given the majority in both Houses to get us out of Iraq and we are as mired there as if there was no election. STOP! the funding for the war with the exception of money to withdraw completely as soon as possible without ANY contingencies. DO NOT pass any legislation giving this warmonger any excuse to bastardize it into permission to start a war with Iran. This guy should be in a straight jacket and muzzled until Jan.20 2009.

My calendar says 250 more days — will we survive him?

George Bush is truly one scary man. And aren’t the Israelis in enough trouble without showing adulation for a man Americans hate? Maybe Americans are thinking that “my enemy’s friends are my enemies” stuff. The Democrats get kudos for standing up to this ludicrous event in Israel. Special kudos to Nancy for standing up to that Zionist strong-arm, Harvey Weinstein.
