IF, GOD FORBID, there were to be ANY type of assassination attempt on Senator Obama, there would be such an uprising with an enormous amount of mutiny, rebellion and revolt; and at a level that that this country has not experienced in recent times!

Also, we would know where to look first… and that is at the GOP. They would be the party of “DETESTATION & HATRED” for a long time coming; especially if they keep these types of tactics up, they’ll be well on their way!

I hope the GOP finds it in their best interest to request additional support, from the Secret Service, specifically dedicated to Senator Obama. In my opinion, this comment has actually planted the thought into some, if not many, wacky souls out there and therefore cannot be downplayed! It’s NO JOKE!

The GOP is so desperate that they have become very cruel, vindictive, spiteful, nasty, pitiless, callous, harsh, vile, wicked, contemptible and downright EVIL!

The GOP, and their past tactics are SIMPLY PATHETIC!

I recognized that comments were deleted, and I know that nothing you said was directed at me, so I took no offense. :)

If I may suggest, since TP refuses to follow our oft-repeated suggestion to replace deleted comments with things like “Offensive comment deleted by admin” or something, I suggest copying the entire “time-stamp”, as you see other posters do. It can be cumbersome, but at least it removes any doubt about to whom or what you’re referring.

I respectfully disagree with the premise of your theory. I know plenty of people with a quick, sharp sense of humor who can react to noises or things people say with a very funny remark. Now, having said that, while I can see that Huckabee was quick-witted enough to recognize that an opportunity to make a joke presented itself, he was unprepared for such spontaneous improvisation, and his joke wasn’t a very good one. And he was making a disparaging remark about Sen Obama, and his “apology” was a hypocritical lie.

But he did apologize. He did not do the non-apology, apology.

When they say “…IF my remark offended anyone…” or “…IF my remark was offensive…” that is a non-apology. Saying “if” implies that the remark might or might not be offensive.

Huckabee didn’t use the “if”. He clearly stated that his remark was offensive and he apologized.

I agree that this is a major gaffe. Particularly for someone who would like to be picked to run as VP. Pardon the wording, but he is too much of a loose cannon.

Whatever. I don’t think an apology is necessary here.
What we need is an explanation as to why Huckabee thinks this kind of humor is funny. Remember, this is a man who has lived through the assassination of liberal leader after liberal leader, all of which began with the aim of a gun.

They’d be surprised to know how many of us Socialists got guns, too. Self-defense knows no politics.

Rest easy, Perry. If you look closely at Huckabee’s response, you’ll see it isn’t really an apology at all.

He was joking about a presidential candidate being shot in front of the NRA for chrissakes! The NRA!!! How is that not offensive to everyone, but them?

While I am a big fan of Bill Maher, I didn’t see the show you mentioned.

I don’t think most gun owners are stupid, but many have been mislead by skillfull propaganda from the NRA and other gun rights groups. They cite examples like Washinton DC’s gun policy, and claim the democrats want to do that to the whole country. I agree that the notion that the Govt. could or would take away peoples guns is absurd. Equally absurd is the notion that a “one size fits all” gun policy is workable.
Gun policy in rural areas should not be the same as gun policy in crime ridden urban areas. Gun PURCHASES could allow a National solution. No one with a mental illness, like the shooter at Virginia Tech, should find it easy to buy a handgun, regardless of where they live.

While it would be nice if most people would educate themselves on important issues ,by keyboard or other methods, a lot of voters simply won’t spend the time.

That’s why Obama needs to Spell it out. It won’t be easy, but it will help him.

I would like to see someone aim a gun at Huckabee and see how quickly he would hit the floor.

The right wing is in panic mode. There will be more incidents like this because they don’t know how to put their brain in gear before they put their mouth in gear when they are in this mode.
