I think Wiseman’s a great WaPo chatter. He puts his foot in his mouth sure, but he’s trying hard to keep the chat lively. If it’s bash-Obama day you can be sure he will call out for dissenters. He answers fast and sharp (and flip) and every so often very honestly and with real insight.

Covering the government in the Newt-Hammer-BushRoveCheney progression is like wading chin deep in pigpoop, it makes people shy away from you. Wiseman’s way above average as a reporter and attacking him for a feeble chat response is counterproductive. I’d much rather have reporters willing to make a mistake than afraid to answer a question.

Email address for Wiesman, anyone? I want to complain about the blatant lack of objectivity inherent in the “thank goodness” comment, the lack of professional political reporting in the Miley Cyrus comment, and I want to cc: ombudsman@washpost.com.

Weisman, like a lot of the news media at the moment, often appears reluctant to put McCain under tough scrutiny. Last month, in another washingtonpost.com online chat, Weisman stuck up for McCain’s “maverick brand,” claiming without evidence that McCain had “clashed” with President Bush “repeatedly” over the years.

McCain’s free ride from the press is nothing new. The press has lost all objectivity where McCain is concerned, and I guess if he keeps having cozy little barbeques for his press buddies, nothing is going to change.

The notion that McCain is a “maverick” is absurd. Not only did he allow his anti-torture bill pass with the ludicrous exception given to the CIA, he had absolutely nothing to say regarding Bush’s signing statement where he effectively states he’ll torture anyone he damn well pleases.
