The post and the link provided don't explain the deficit graph very well. I'd think if the y-axis was deficit, up would mean increased deficit. Clearly from the article at the link, it's the opposite. Maybe it's related to the difference between debt and revenue. Can anyone with more experience in this area help explain it?

The link has graphs for projected debt and revenue. You should take a look. The debt graph is really scary. And it looks like the projected values are based on an assumption that revenue will not go down which means if it does, we're really in trouble.

So, the waaahhhpublicans are still promoting their credit card economy policies? For the past seven years, we have been borrowing from Peter to pay Paul and we all know where that has gotten us, smack in the middle of a recession. Perhaps grampy McLame has a vision with his plan, to bring us back to the cherished times of his youth...the Great Depression of the 1930's.

As the country approaches Ten Trillion Dollars in debt, it is no longer feasible to buy votes with phony tax cut promises. They never cut anybody's taxes that I know, but they changed the fed withholding tables to make it SEEM like the taxes were lower. That is part of why we are getting this "rebate", an advance on next year's tax refund, which is just a way to "steal" money from a likely Democratic controlled administration.

Can someone explain to me why the gray (history) line in the graph goes up beginning in 2008 and reaches a balanced budget in about 2012? Can someone please explain this to me? Is there some crystal ball page I failed to read?

This may be a little crusty even for me but maybe instead of Iran McPain could bomb Mexico City and Kyl could hold a big back-yard bar-b-que.

McPain, Kyl, and Huckleberry all the way. A sample of things not to come.

NEWS FLASH

18 May 2008

Phoenix, AZ (AP)

Senator John Kyl (R) and Congressman Trent Franks (R) announced today that they will introduce a joint resolution in their respective bodies early next week. The resolution, based on a young San Francisco entrepreneur’s invention that utilizes used cooking oil to power his fleet of vehicles and an adaptation of a Twilight Zone episode titled “To Serve Man,” promises a series of recipes that will counter the high prices for food and fuel while eliminating the illegal immigration problem. The solution is really simple in that the resolution calls only for the mandatory eating of Mexican Food at least five times a week. The excess cooking grease will be used to power our vehicles and, as in the referenced Twilight Zone episode the illegal immigrants will be encouraged to come to this Country. The recipes offer variations of the most common Mexican dishes such as Tijuana Tacos, Ensenada Enchiladas, Tampico Tamales, and Baja Burritos. These delicious dishes are to be accompanied by Hispanic Rice and Refried Beaners.

The two pols indicated that as soon as they can get the necessary permits from the Atomic Energy Commission to deposit the excess male bovine excrement at the Yucca Mountain Repository in Nevada they will expand their menu to include Tex-Mex food.

Lets also not forget that when the dollar, which has devalued some 40%, creates a hidden tax because of the rise in prices.

Tax cuts have not helped the economy and have not reduced government spending. Worse it has resulted in higher deficits because of interest on loans.

The fascists of the Grand Ole Party don't get the fact that the Reaganomics have failed three times now. Move over you nitwits, you had your chance to do something and you failed miserably. Go take a class in economics or something. You hate government therefore should never be allowed in responsible position within government. All you guys do is shift the burden of paying for your useless, unlawful wars, from you, the upper income to us, the middle and lower class. You are thugs!

All you guys do is shift the burden of paying for your useless, unlawful wars, from you, the upper income to us, the middle and lower class. You are thugs!

If Kyl enthusiastically supports something, you can be certain it's a really bad idea. Why is it that meatheads like this never get asked the obvious question: "If tax cuts for the wealthy are so damn good, why is the economy in the toilet? Why is the dollar so weak?" Maybe tax cuts are a great idea, provided they're not instituted at the same time as a ruinous military excursion overseas, I dunno. I'd be more inclined to try that than four more years of tax cuts, deregulation and war war war. That one has pretty much played out for anyone who isn't rich or doesn't have his head deeply implanted up his own butt.

If he’s talking about increasing the deficit, then Kyl is certainly right that McCain’s tax plans do go “far beyond” Bush’s.

Funny, that was more or less what went through my mind when I read the header to the thread.

Maybe Kyl is referring to George W Bush's tax cuts... McCain is planning on giving even larger tax cuts for big donors to the Republican cause, perhaps?

Yes, the rubes will be sold that in this time of rising gas and food prices and with wages stagnant of falling that they will receive a tremendous tax break by voting for McCain. They will see GPD and productivity increase because of fat corporate tax breaks that will be used to ship what few remaining manufacturing jobs overseas. The rubes will find the jobs in service industries with low pay, no benefits but the chance to serve the gentry and every once in a while eat the scraps falling from their master's table (better known as trickle down economics.)

Yes, the rubes will find that unemployment, welfare, assistance to subsidize health insurance will all be cut to the bone because the wealthy and the corporation will pay little tax. However, the rubes will enjoy trying to negotiate on their own against the large health care insurance companies or forced into high risk pools with incredibly poor coverage and extremely high costs.

Yes, life will be wonderful because the Republican elites have been planning for this for a long time. They want to return
America to the days of the Robber Barons where the rich are respected and the low life know their place.
