DOJ torture report points to widespread abuse.

The Department of Justice just released its report on the FBI’s involvement in abusive interrogations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and at Guantanamo Bay, between 2001 and 2004. The report finds that the “Bush administration’s National Security Council ignored concerns raised by the FBI over the abusive treatment of terrorism suspects.” The 370-page report details FBI agents’ observations of torture during interrogations, including “Beating or Physically Abusing a Detainee,” “Transfer to Another Country for More Aggressive Treatment,” and waterboarding.

They key word is ignored. Ignoring is what the administration does best. This has been the administration of deliberate ignorance.

Do we need any more reasons to begin impeachment proceedings? Are these not “high crimes” and the greatest forms of treason?

With our brave men and women serving in hostile territories, and at risk of being tortured themselves, we have no ground to stand on with respect to the treatment of “prisoners”. Our troops are the ones who may suffer from this criminal administration and it’s tratorous policies.

Speaker Pelosi, do more than putting impeachment back on the table – NOW!

Even McCain admitted that he signed false confessions; anything to get the torture to stop.

The republican/Torture party needs to be excised from the Country like the diseased tumor on the body politic that they are.

Sad, really, the criminal Bush administration is going to get away with literally “MURDER” and not one of them will pay the price for their actions.

Well Mizz Perino, is this report not worth the paper it’s printed on either?

  8. Freedom Rebel says:

Now that the DOJ has released this report, what is Congress going to do about it? I realize probably nothing.

But how can they stand to have their noses rubbed in it everyday and sit by as if nothing is happening? They took an oath to uphold the Constitution, to see it discarded and thrown aside like yesterdays laundry has to cause some outrage.

Well if none of them get re-elected we can give them all plenty of reasons why.

Too many people across the Web believe that Bush will never be brought to justice. It looks like the FBI has a different idea. BY releasing this report they hand us another Smoking Gun to use to jail him , Cheney, Rumfeld, Addington, Rice, Ashcroft, Yoo, etc. We need to change the narrative that Bush will go free, it is unacceptable.

BILL MOYERS:Do you think that people like David Addington and John Yoo and Jim Haynes, and the other lawyers you’ve mentioned who advised and were on the torture team, should ultimately be held responsible in court for what they did in government at this period of time?

PHILIPPE SANDS:If they were complicit in the commission of a crime, then they should be investigated. And if the facts show that there is a sufficient basis for proceeding to a prosecution, then they should be prosecuted. Lawyers are gatekeepers to legality and constitutionality. If the lawyers become complicit in a common plan to get around the law, to allow abuse, then yes, they should be liable.

BILL MOYERS:There are people who say, “I don’t want to hear about this.” A lot of Americans say, “I don’t want to hear about this.” It’s like being diagnosed with cancer. You don’t really want to hear the terrible news. You know, this is something that was done in a particular period of intense fear and uncertainty. We had been attacked, 3,000 people killed right here in New York. And I just want the government to take care of it. I don’t want to hear about the cruelty, the torture, the enhanced interrogation techniques. Do you understand why they would say that?

PHILIPPE SANDS:I do understand that. And here’s what I’d say. I would want the government to take care of it in a way that is going to protect me over the long term. And if understand that using abuse produces pictures of the kind that have appeared at Abu Ghraib, and of the kind that have appeared at Guantanamo and are going to make it more difficult for me to protect the American public, I want to know about that. And if it is indeed the case that those pictures are going to make it more difficult to protect the American public, I want to sort it out, that we remove that obstacle to protecting the American public, and we ensure that it doesn’t happen again in the future, and as necessary, make sure that those who erred in putting in policies that allow that to happen, face appropriate responsibility.

I really just want to walk around every day with one of those old super soakers. You know which one, the one they used to make that was like a freaking fire hose and had a backpack tank of water you could strap to your back. I’m going to walk up and down the street and ask people whether they think waterboarding is torture and should the US engage in it if it is. If they say no, waterboarding is fine, they get a blast in the face of watery goodness. When they start to protest what I have just done, they get another blast in the face before they even finish the sentence. And then another. And another. And another. Then I’ll knock them on the ground, and keep repeatedly blasting them in the face until they sign a piece of paper that says they think this is torture and should not be allowed…

Ok, I’m not actually going to do this, but you see my point.

Or, this report isn’t worth the pixels it’s being displayed on!

  12. Jackie says:

The Foreign Press has been reporting this for years and even soldiers who have come back for Iraq/Afghanistan has said the US tortures innocent men/woman/children. This is old news. Now what will be interesting is when the other countries do the same thing to Americans and US Soldiers. What goes around comes around. The Agreement by all countries not to torture prisoners was done for a reason. Americans let Bush/Cheney destroy that agreement now it can happen to Americans. Yes even an innocent Australian man name Hicks was tortured/drugged and kept in jail for 5 years for a crime he never did. He was forced to lie so the White House could say face. Once he was home it was found he was drugged/beaten/tortured and one Military Lawyer spoke up and said they knew this man never did anything and wasn’t a terrorist. We will see that happen in the future to Americans and US Soldiers. As Americans are kidnapped tortured/drugged/raped/beaten don’t bother to call the United Nations or others for help. You get what you give out and we will be paying for this for a long long time to come.

Let me repeat, We need to change the narrative that Bush will go free, it is unacceptable.

When will TP add IMPEACHMENT and WAR CRIMES to it’s list of topics?

    REMEMBER:
Those that control the headlines, control the discourse.

And so far, silence about our criminal Executive branch from the media, TP included, has lead to apathy amongst the populace because the concerns of the populace goes ignored by the media, TP included! Or is the president and his Executive above the law…?
