Bush Admin. Knew Trailers Weren’t WMD Threat

On May 29, 2003, 50 days after the fall of Baghdad, President Bush proclaimed a fresh victory for his administration in Iraq: Two small trailers captured by U.S. and Kurdish troops had turned out to be long-sought mobile “biological laboratories.” He declared, “We have found the weapons of mass destruction.”

A secret fact-finding mission to Iraq — not made public until now — had already concluded that the trailers had nothing to do with biological weapons. Leaders of the Pentagon-sponsored mission transmitted their unanimous findings to Washington in a field report on May 27, 2003, two days before the president’s statement.

“There was no connection to anything biological,” said one expert who studied the trailers. Another recalled an epithet that came to be associated with the trailers: “the biggest sand toilets in the world.”

It is really pathetic that a person who is responsible for the murder of hundreds of thousands of unarmed, defenseless people can make money from it.

As far as the, “just because we didn’t find them doesn’t mean they don’t exist,” argument – I’ve got a response – “There is a werewolf standing behind you. Just because you can’t see him, doesn’t mean he’s not there!”

I mean, after all, we have systematically destroyed the entire country of Iraq in the past five years. If they were, in fact, there, don’t you think they would have shown up by now?

Feith is right, it was an error. The govt said there was “incontrovertible evidence” So their absolute evidence was wrong.

What’s as serious as finding WMD’s without ACTUALLY finding them?
