Gillespie: ‘It Is Beyond Me’ Why Republicans Won’t Boycott NBC»

gillespie.gifYesterday, Bush counselor Ed Gillespie sent an angry letter to NBC president Steve Capus demanding that the network run a correction for what he called the network’s “selective editing” of an interview with President Bush. NBC pointed out that the full interview “has been available, unedited, in its entirety, for the past day, on our website.”

Gillespie — and the rest of the right wing — was not mollified. Appearing on Glenn Beck’s radio show today, Gillespie continued to attack NBC. When Beck asked why conservatives continue to appear on the network, Gillespie replied, “It is beyond me frankly”:

BECK: While their [Fox News’s] journalists clearly or their commentators are clearly conservative, nobody in Washington is trying to — the Democrats are trying to blackball Fox by not going on any debates, et cetera, et cetera. You don’t see Republicans doing that to NBC, do you?

GILLESPIE: No, and sometimes I question why. It is beyond me frankly.

Gillespie’s attack seems nothing more than part of a coordinated right-wing smear against NBC — considering that the White House has misleadingly edited news reports itself. For example, in an effort to portray the surge as a success last November, the White House removed references about the lack of political progress in Iraq from an ABC News segment and distributed the edited version of the report “to government officials, Congressional staffers,” and journalists. Only after ABC complained, the White House “acknowledged it was inappropriate” and sent a revised version.

It is ironic that an administration that has planted false news stories at home and abroad — and set up a secret program to use supposedly independent military officials as Pentagon spokesmen — is now outraged over “the blurring of the lines” between news and spin.

Because nothing inappropriate was done by MSNBC or their affiliates ; the same cannot be said of FAUX Comedy Channel who lyingly claim to be “fair and balanced” when that is clearly not the case and actually false advertising on their part……….

I know millions of Americans who feel this garbage administration should run a correction for their “selective editing” of intelligence on Saddam/Iraq prior to Chimpy’s illegal and idiotic invasion and subsequent occupation ……….

There is a war in this country. The war is between the reich wing and those who actually have morals and decency. We don’t stand a chance.

There are plenty of things beyond you and the rest of the GOP , Chinninstein .

Honesty , for one ; intelligence being another……….

  11. lm945 Says:

It comes down to the old goose vs gander argument.

Only the Republicans haven’t figured out that their goose is cooked.

  12. pete Says:

Does Ed really want Bush interviews to be unedited? Does he really think that all the “duhs”, “ums” and “what was I talking abouts”, serve to present Bush in a better light? Personally, If I were a GOP operative, I would do everything in my power to ensure he doesn’t speak publicly until the election.

  14. StratRat Says:

If the right side speaks, it is lying. If the right side offers evidence, it is either false or fabricated. If the right side has an opinion, it was vetted through the political arm of the WH. If the right side was ever right…Well, I’ll just stop there.

  24. zhoward Says:

It’s not about the editing, it’s about the interview. Engel asked some tough questions about the reality in Iraq and Iran. It almost penetrated Bush’s bubble. So Eddie tried to come to the rescue, probably under Karl’s orders.

  30. Ms_Joanne Says:

The right wing, and it’s party propaganda networks, are smearing NBC because of Olbermann’s never-ending criticism of O’Reilly, and the fact that Olbermann speaks truth. It’s the combination that has everyone up in arms.

Not that NBC or MSNBC are much better, honestly. They have one voice speaking truth, and after Olbermann’s striking Special Comment last week, there is no way that the WH would allow that to go as is. They have to have all their talking heads and propaganda networks attack the owner of the messenger to discredit the message.

Until someone like Amy Goodman makes the mainstream, there is no real news. NO matter who it is, it’s bent. Some just bend towards truth…most do not.

I truly believe this is aimed specifically to get Olbermann to shut up.

  31. Ms_Joanne Says:

And that is one really creepy looking gooper. :-D

  32. chucko33 Says:

Yeah, but two wrongs don’t make a right.

  33. StratRat Says:

I truly believe this is aimed specifically to get Olbermann to shut up.

And in turn, it is meant to shut us up also. If you speak truth to power, you are an enemy of the state.

  34. JMOHR Says:

This is a god damned war of good versus evil. The sooner that the Democrats realize this and start playing hardball the better. This is just not an election at stake, this is the very existence of our Democracy and freedoms. It is time that we start playing for all the marbles. The Republican elite, their wealthy allies and far right religious loony bins have attempted to impose their own form of fascism and one party rule. Who the hell cares if the Republicans go on NBC. God, they have their own Pravda, FOX News. We need to win this election, arrest the ex-president as well as Cheney and the other scum to be tried for their many excesses. We then need to use those powers to arrest and detain for interrogation all leading Republican leaders and legislators at local, state and federal levels. Remember, the Supreme Court has already noted that a president can pick up, hold and interrogate potential enemies of the state. Yes, eventually they would have to come before a magistrate (no set time established by the S. Ct.) but before then I can assure you that they will all confess to high treason using nothing more than the enhanced interrogation techniques approved by the Bush administration. The Republican party will then be outlawed and treated with the same derision as the Communists, Fascists and NAZI’s.

  35. 5th Estate Says:

I for one would be thrilled if all the Republicans got off our TV’s altogether–but just getting off NBC would be a welcome start

  36. calibleu Says:

    Ms_Joanne Says:
I truly believe this is aimed specifically to get Olbermann to shut up.

I also believe it has to do with the comments that Chris Matthews made on Friday with Rachel Maddow. He basically took the WH to task over GB’s speech that accused the Obama and Dem’s of appeasement. He stated that the WH shut up critics prior to the run up to the Iraq war. He stated that “shutting up opposition is critical to running a county in an undemocratic way.”

  37. johnnyRocketpants Says:

    NBC stole Gillespie’s chin!

  38. Ms_Joanne Says:

I was pretty amazed by Tweety when he said what he did with Maddow.

Something is wrong in the world when Tweety is standing up for truth. It scares me. :-D

    Live Frankly

  39. dixie blood Says:

This is another sign of the RePugniScum melt down sweeping the nation…MSNBC is just the first MSM channel/mouthpiece to revolt against the administration and start telling the truth and restoring the media wars of yesterday as they vanquish Fu(ks nOoze and any other reich wing outlets!!!!

That’s what we have needed for so long. More people standing up and telling the truth. I really hope this is a turning point for America.

  42. RUCerious Says:

Totally Off topic, but the KY results coming in, and yes, Clinton’s way ahead, but look at the by party counts:

    Hillary Clinton 221,330 57%
    Barack Obama 152,645 39%
    Uncommitted 7,328 2%
    = 366,647

    Versus
    John McCain ….68,525 74%
    Everybody else..23, 104
    = 91,629

    Exactly 4 X 1 ratio… Hurry November!

  43. RUCerious Says:

Nevar, his head is shaped like a dick, isn’t it?

  44. Doc Rock Says:

Good–let NBC News die. It’s not worth crap any more. Same for CBS, ABC, FOX, CNN, or MSNBC. And NPR & BBC are going downhill.

  45. Rockrocky77 Says:

FOX has never done such a thing…oops, seems they have.

Well, what did FOX expect and the NBC ‘edit’ wasnt really anything. I think the whole appeaser thing backfired and NBC is now to blame.

    Grow UP FOX.

  48. Shayne Says:

How about if they restore the part of the tape where Michelle Obama says she’s “really proud” of her country. Somebody edited that out but the original is still around someplace.

  52. sectionop92 Says:

Gillespie needs a saline chin implant with a pump like that of Shake on Aqua Teen Hunger Force in the episode where he goes to Guatemala for the multiple plastic surgeries. It’s also nice to see Glennsie getting on the ship of the damned to fulfill his lucid lie of a life in support of taking down NBC. Nothing says “I’m a moron” like following the neo-con lemmings off the cliff and into a sea of molten lava. Where’s the morals you ask, Glenn? With the Democrats you hate!

  53. Aanya Says:

Gillespie is an idiot! Just one more incompetent rethug. Just as they treat Iran, Syria, Korea and the like, if they don’t like you, they punish you by not talking to you. Hey smart guy, we’re all wise to the ignorance of this entire group, and keep on demonstrating what amateurs you all still are! Eight years and nothing learned!
