Yesterday, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) sent a letter to Google chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt, asking that he “immediately remove content produced by Islamist terrorist organizations from YouTube.” He charged that by allowing the videos, Google was not enforcing its “Community Guidelines.” In a response on its blog, however, Google rebuffed Lieberman:
Senator Lieberman’s staff identified numerous videos that they believed violated YouTube’s Community Guidelines. In response to his concerns, we examined and ended up removing a number of videos from the site, primarily because they depicted gratuitous violence, advocated violence, or used hate speech. Most of the videos, which did not contain violent or hate speech content, were not removed because they do not violate our Community Guidelines.
We believe that YouTube is a richer and more relevant platform for users precisely because it hosts a diverse range of views, and rather than stifle debate we allow our users to view all acceptable content and make up their own minds.

Uh-oh… sounds like Teh Google is one o’ them liberal fascist moonbat outfits.
Probably funded by George Soros. No wonder Holy Joe is ag’in ‘em.
May 20th, 2008 at 9:55 amI find it ironic that a Jewish senator is hell-bent on helping America become a fascist state.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:00 amSCARY and ironic.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:01 amI can only hope the senator is just as concerned with the hate-speech peddled on some of the ultra-zionist videos on YouTube.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:03 amUmm if they moved anything that offended the senses of the Neo-cons from Youtube, there would only be music covers and GTA IV clips left, and i’m not even sure about the GTA IV clips..
Youtube is a haven for 9/11 consipiracies, conspiracies in general and anti-Bush administration ; anti fear propoganada. And i love YouTube for this very reason.
The internet has not only expanded people’s minds and imaginations ; it has give a voice to those who previously did not have one. No neo-conservative, thought police hack is going to be able to quell the trend.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:04 amGoogle should tell that war-mongering holier than tho fascist war criminal to take his fake morality and stick it.
After next election this fascist will be stripped of his positions on the committees. The Dems should waste no time and do it now before he announces that he will be John W. McSames running mate.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:10 amCongratulations to YouTube for understanding that debate is healthy. That is what makes this a great country is our diversity. We may not always agree with all opinions,(I’m not including hate based speechs) but it helps broaden our views and ideas. To look at a situation differently through someone elses eyes, so to speak.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:15 amWow! I didn’t know this..Good thing I visit TP for info…I thought youtube was just for music and cartoon’s….LOL..Guess I need to expand my viewing site’s and usage….Time to get more information…..Wonder how many more list’s I will be on after my searche’s…
Poor joe, he is loosing his power, maybe he should return to his home land…….Blessings
May 20th, 2008 at 10:18 amBut Joe himself thrives on diversity…
He’s a Democrat, an Independent, but mostly Republican by votes.
He’s Jewish, American, soldier & flea market shopper.
He’s for, against, and won’t take a stand on many issues.
He supports Mavericks, Madmen and even kisses Cheney goodnight.
What’s not diverse?
May 20th, 2008 at 10:21 amIn Lieberman’s world, “hate speech” is any speech he happens to hate.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:25 amthe internet is the wild west of information, its redundant and expansive structure makes it inherently difficult to control, and the fascists trying to turn this world into a police state would definitely love to find a way to control it. the internet is simultaneously the source of both the greatest lunacy and purest truth, and it is that truth that scum-mongering powerhungry pathological liars like liEberman would love to shut down…
I fear someday some scumbag like Murdock is going to try and take youtube over like he did myspace..
May 20th, 2008 at 10:32 am>Obama meets Imam
I got an email saying Obama once received a free Big Gulp from a man in a turban, ergo his campaign is financed by Hamas
May 20th, 2008 at 10:33 amWhat makes Joe so different? Some of his statements might be examined as well.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:44 amGood boy… Sit! GOOD boy….
Here’s your treat…
Now ROLL OVER…. GOOD BOY…
May 20th, 2008 at 10:46 amLieberman is a tiresome, sanctimonious, overzealous lying, hypocritical old FART.
STFU, Joe, you moron!!

Kindly provide us with an example of this.
May 20th, 2008 at 11:00 amPerhaps Lieberman should spend less time concerned with whether or not YouTube enforces ITS Community Guidelines and more time ensuring that the U.S. government, of which he is a member, enforces its guideline. That guideline is called the United States Constitution, in case he has forgotten.
May 20th, 2008 at 11:05 amI just can’t get over how these people think that by destroying the freedoms that the Constitution provides us, they are saving freedom.
Isn’t that like saying you have to kill people for peace… um, okay, bad example…
Isn’t it like saying that in order to pay for a way, you need to provide tax cuts to the wealthiest…. um…
nevermind
May 20th, 2008 at 11:16 amThis is indeed a troubling development. We must eliminate those forms of speech which attack our country and undermine our safety from those who lurk around every corner and under every bed with the intent of attacking us and destroying our freedoms. TP and other blogs like it are perfect examples of the kind of fellow travelers who aid and abet the dark forces of Islamic Terrorism attempting to overthrow our way of life.
It is important that blogs, newspapers, television and radio programs as well as books and other publications voicing these un-American sentiments be controlled or closed down. However, this is insufficient. There are also those who unknowingly assist these dark and evil forces by asserting that freedom of speech, due process of law and other such quaint notions can actually be applied in such a violent and dangerous world. We must set aside these freedoms as well as the freedom of privacy and the right to dissent in order to preserve our democracy and maintain those uniquely American freedom and liberty.
We all know that liberals and Democrats are nothing more than homosexuals and appeasers. There should be no elections this fall. John McCain should be appointed to serve as President by our former glorious leader, George II. After all, we know who the enemy is. We know there is only leadership from one party that can truly protect this nation. It is essential to protect our democracy that this leadership be continued without the divisiveness and opportunity for fifth columnists to strike at the resolve of our democracy that an election would be.
Long live the Republican party and may Joe Lieberman be appointed to head a new Department of State Loyalty to ensure that we all uniformly conform to the thoughts necessary to save our democracy.

Yes, please do. Because a quick search on “Islam” in YouTube popped up about a 50/50 mix of pro- and anti-Muslim videos, including some that have been up for a year. Not such an efficient job of banning.

May 20th, 2008 at 11:27 amYou’ve got satire & irony down to a fine art; thank you for comments that routinely make me stop & think.
Mr Lieberman (I-Israel)
When are you going to get to the bottom of the lack of response by the Bush Administration to Hurricane Katrina?
OOHH you forgot too, so has the media.

I’M USING IT.
May 20th, 2008 at 12:37 pmPlease, remove too the mountain of videos showing one-toothed rednecks shooting at everything, and paying to have their 7 year old sons and daughters shooting an M-60 or a Gatling machine gun. They’re scary fascist fundamentalists.
May 20th, 2008 at 12:56 pmGoogle and YouTube are still FAR from being neutral and allowing for healthy debate. YouTube and Google have caved into pressure from Scientology VERY recently by canceling Youtube channels of Scientology critics.
