Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your famiily, Senator! Thank you for your unwavering public service and championing the cause of those less fortunate.
This is the worst possible scenario for Senator Ted. I sincerely hope that he can be treated and recovers swiftly, but I fear we may not see him again on the floor of the senate.
We are all sending you well wishes, Senator, and heartfelt thanks for your years as champion on behalf of all of us.
it is truly a sad state of affairs when people want to politicize a person’s illness….statements like God’s penalty for being liberal and slamming people for sending the Kennedy family fond wishes and prayers….you all need to get a grip…we are all human beings…show a little humanity!
I do wish Ted Kennedy a speedy recovery. If he can’t recover I wish his soul well. I admired his two brothers Robert and John who were great Americans.
The Kennedys are a great family and I hope the best for them.
You Progressives are shocked that a Rightwinger admires the Kennedys? I’d take any Kennedy or the Cowardly Bush suckers any day. They stood and stand up for America against our enemies and the Globalist Corporate intersets selling us out!
First off, as a proud progressive AND a Christian, I WILL post that I pray for Senator Kennedy’s recovery. I also pray for his family, who are enduring, and will continue to endure, the witnessing of a family member with a malignant tumor. I pray that they have strength (and hope) during this very trying time.
At this point, politics play no part in Mr. Kennedy’s disease. He is merely a human being, who now has the toughest battle.
No matter the outcome, you’ve are one helluva senator, Mr. Kennedy. You’ve done this great nation proud!
You Progressives are shocked that a Rightwinger admires the Kennedys? I’d take any Kennedy or the Cowardly Bush suckers any day. They stood and stand up for America against our enemies and the Globalist Corporate intersets selling us out!
What horrible news for the Kennedy family and America. We are about to take back this country, and we need liberal stalwarts like Teddy to help lead the way.
“You Progressives are shocked that a Rightwinger admires the Kennedys? I’d take any Kennedy or the Cowardly Bush suckers any day. They stood and stand up for America against our enemies and the Globalist Corporate intersets selling us out!”
The Kennedy family is America – they have sacrificed as much – more? – for the good of this country than just about any family. Tough battles are where they shine – this will be no different.
Hang tough, Mr. Kennedy.
We’ll carry the load while you fight this fight, and we’ll be there for you when you need us.
“Then you should keep YOUR religious preferences to yourself as well.”
Send him whatever the hell YOU want, but don’t pretend to speak for me with bullshit statements such as “We’re all praying…” or “The WORLD is praying…” because I got news for you, Doc. The world is NOT praying for him and I can speak for myself, thank you very much!

_______
Good point. Your lack of prayers have been noted. I suggest that all of us qualify such statements by saying “We’re all (with the exception of LividLib) praying…” or “The WORLD (with the exception of LividLib) is praying…”
Please let us know if there you have any other linguistic needs we should cater to.
I’m as staunch an atheist as there is but I’m not offended, in the least, by implications that I may be praying for someone. I think it’s entirely inappropriate to use this kind of thread for a theological pissing match.
Forgive me, LividLib, for the inclusive nature of my personal prayers for the senator. I know that many progressives (and one troll) share my feelings, and in the interest of making a statement that was potent and meaningful without drawing too much attention to itself, I used a common, expansive expression of concern.
From now on I will qualify such sentiments so as not to offend your delicate spiritual sensibilities. A thousand pardons I beg of you.
Another atheist here weighing in:
For the same reason that I don’t give a crap about the religious aspect of someone saying “God Bless You” when I sneeze or the few times that some of my religious friends have said “I’m praying for you” when I’m going through tough times, LividLib, you need to just let it go. This is not the time or place to have this discussion. I understand and identify with your point, but really, is it that much of a big deal? People always speak from their experience, they speak from what they know. In the case of my religious friends, their statement of “I’m praying for you” is not meant to be some denigration of my atheism, or a thinly veiled attempt at conversion when I’m vulnerable, just as Ralph or Dr. Hussein are not trying to convert you or speak for you as though you believe in god. They are speaking from what they know. When religious people find themselves in these situations, where someone they know is in trouble or what have you, what do they do (hopefully in addition to actually trying to fix the problem etc., unlike some religious nutjobs who won’t accept surgery or blood transfusions to the detriment of others)? They PRAY. You and I do not, we deal with grief and such in our own way. Both are acceptable. I accept others praying for me during times of strife because that is their way of showing solidarity. The Christians or other religious people who say they pray for you BECAUSE you are an atheist and they PRAY you see the light are the problem, not our friends here. So basically I’m saying just lighten up a bit, this thread is not about you, me, atheism, or religion. It is about Senator Ted Kennedy, my Senator, my great Senator, and this unfortunate news, and the wishes of all his admirers and constituents, religious and non-religious alike, that he make a full recovery.
Phew, that was long. Anyway, Peace to you LividLib, to you Dr. Hussein, to Ralph, to Senator Kennedy and his family most certainly, and to you Al Da God aka Trajan75, I applaud your kind words for the Kennedy’s and for now, will leave it at that.

Um…guys? This seems just a BIT petty, don’t you think? It appears you both are sorry to hear this news. We all have different ways of expressing how we feel about it, and it really does a disservice to the occasion when these expressions are picked apart.
There can never be a good time for someone like Teddy Kennedy to have a brain tumor, but this is particularly bad timing because his vote is so damn critical in the Senate. I know that’s selfish, but he really is essential to maintaining some sanity in our federal government.
Don’t worry about appearing selfish, Teddy would most likely agree with you. I’ll bet he’s more pi$$ed off about being away from the Senate than he is about having a brain tumor!
Damn. I hope the scientists looking after Sen. Ted Kennedy can provide him with some comfort and hopefully a full recovery.
Ted, as I like to call him, has been a politician that I have always looked at with admiration. Can’t say why as I don’t really know a bunch about him. I guess perhaps that there is some leadership quality that comes out when he speaks. Damn, there is a word for what I’m thinking but it escapes me!
As for the “praying” dust up, I can empathize with LividLib being an atheist myself. There will be other subjects where this may be more fully broached. Sadly, religion is so prevalent that not one day goes by without some reference to it.
I know that’s selfish, but he really is essential to maintaining some sanity in our federal government.
I’m with liberal traitor, not selfish at all. Recall the Bush cabal running to the side of an ill colleague in order to advance their agenda? Being sad at the potential of loosing a vote for a better reality is just normal.
I understand where LividLib is coming from, even though I’m not an atheist. I don’t object to the “praying” bit, but I never like reading or hearing someone say “we’re all rooting for you . . .” when I didn’t get a vote. I think it’s important to be accountable for your own thoughts and beliefs, without attaching them to other people. I’ll speak for myself and I don’t need anyone doing it for me, thanks.
But, I try not to be too cranky about it. Most of the time.
Shame on anyone who is turning this situation into a forum for political banter. I wish Mr. Kennendy all the best – and that is not from a conservative to a liberal but from one person to another.
I hope Ted’s state of mind is conducive to beating this cancer, whether that be atheist or ecstatic, doesn’t much matter to me. And hope his family finds strength in whatever place they search.
If it helps Kennedy to know that people are pulling for him to beat this cancer, know it man because we are.
I think it is important that the Senator knows there are so many of us that truly respect all the hard work he’d done for us and that we are willing to keep working for the causes he’s been working for.
Before anyone else posts it ; Chimpy cannot get a brain tumor.
You actually need a brain to get a tumor there ………
Here’s to you recovering , Senator Kennedy.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:15 pmSad news. We’re all praying for a successful recovery for the Senator. Let’s hope they’ve caught it in time.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:15 pmDarn it. Just when he is needed most…
May 20th, 2008 at 1:18 pmI’m saddened to hear this news. I was truly hoping he was on the road to a speedy recovery. My sincerest hope is that they can treat this.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:19 pmsuch sad bad news… as i’d feared… damn…

May 20th, 2008 at 1:27 pmAt least the Senator has good health coverage; not the case with way too many Americans.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:28 pmHang in there Teddy- You are not only the backbone of this Party, but to ALL the working families of this country regardless of party affiliation.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:28 pmWow, that sucks.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:30 pmI Hope he makes a full and quick recovery.
He has been a tireless worker for the American people. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

May 20th, 2008 at 1:33 pmI am sure that Hagee and others like him will preach that this was God’s penalty for Kennedy being a liberal.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:34 pmOne of the truly great liberals in the Senate. We need 100 Senators in that same spirit.
Get well and good luck, Ted

May 20th, 2008 at 1:42 pmThis is a horrible diagnosis — one that nobody deserves no matter who they are.
I am grateful they caught it, and I hope Sen. Kennedy responds well to the treatment.
