The Jerusalem Post reports that a senior Israeli official said that President Bush and Vice President Cheney are of the belief that military action against Iran is necessary and that such an attack could be coming soon:
US President George W. Bush intends to attack Iran in the upcoming months, before the end of his term, Army Radio quoted a senior official in Jerusalem as saying Tuesday.
The official claimed that a senior member of the president’s entourage, which concluded a trip to Israel last week, said during a closed meeting that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were of the opinion that military action was called for.
However, the official continued, “the hesitancy of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice” was preventing the administration from deciding to launch such an attack on the Islamic Republic, for the time being.

That’s so surprising…
NOT!
May 20th, 2008 at 7:48 amThey really want to be impeached in their desperately deranged belief it will put John McCain in the White House. Everything the Bush Repulbican administration has done was based on politics instead of people. Killing tens of thousands of more innocent human beings won’t even register as a blip on their morality radar. Bush and Cheney are the lunatics that Stanley Kubrick’s “Dr. Strangelove” was trying to warn us about. Any American who would support the unilateral bombing of Iran without the Congressional approval is an enemy of the United States Constitution and a proponent of a fascist dictatorship.
May 20th, 2008 at 7:49 amSix million killed in Afghanistan, over one in Iraq - so maybe another six million (yes..again) brown people before Bush leaves.
May 20th, 2008 at 7:50 amWhere are they going to get the Troops? I hope the congress will impeach Chaney and Bush.
May 20th, 2008 at 7:51 amExpect oil to be traded at $300.00 a barrel shortly therafter.
We’re royally f@cked. Will somebody PLEASE do something???
May 20th, 2008 at 8:08 amPeople have to come to the realization that simply “bombing” Iran won’t do anything but enrage the Islamic world even more than we already have. These people know how to dig in, and when the bombing stops, they’ll come out of their holes and cheer. The U.S. is having enough trouble with 23 million people in Iraq, do they think 80 million will be easier. What a bunch of dumb asses.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:09 amThis is just unconscionable! I hope that congress is able to stop them before the people take to the streets!
May 20th, 2008 at 8:11 amCheney and Bush need to be impeached, and tried for war crimes! This imperial presidency has just been the worst ever!
Can you say “Downing Street Memo” in which Mr. Deerlove reported that Bush was going to attack Iraq with or without support of the U.K. or anyone else?
May 20th, 2008 at 8:16 amIf Congress doesn’t put Impeachment proceedings back on the table now, we may not have much of a country left. Bush & Cheney are certainly not going to ask Congress if they can start another war.
President Nixon accepted the law passed by Congress in 1969 forbidding deployment of ground combat troops into Laos or Thailand. The Congress has to get the majority to enact a law that prohibits Bush & Cheney from attacking Iran. They also can enact a law forbidding funds for the war, which Congress did in 1973 to Nixon also.
This is the only way (IMHO) we can stop the genocide.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:20 amThe American sheeple just don’t want to believe this cabal would strike another country. They can’t beleive their eyes and ears!
May 20th, 2008 at 8:20 amDick Cheney is betting on economic collapse. He hasn’t achieved his wet dream yet so bombing Iran is his final stop on the Screw American Express.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:23 amhttp://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article13851.htm
Speaking about Nixon, is the army going to have to send armored divisions into Washington to assure Bush leaves like they did Nixon? I’m worried.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:25 amThis is a great idea!
I suggest that we take up a collection and buy GDumbya and Darth Cheney each a one-way ticket to Tehran.
We’ll give ‘em each a shotgun, a quart of Jack Daniels and an orange vest.
They can attack Iran to their hearts’ content.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:26 amThe Bush administration and the Republican party only stands for fear and murder, the line between them and their enemies is blurring.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:27 amthey know that they won’t be impeached…because the Democrats HAVE no spine. I hope to God that I am wrong, but it seems that the goalposts for impeachment keep on moving. Conyers said that impeachment would be ON the table if Bush attacked Iran, but who’s to say that the goalposts won’t be moved again?

Hey how ’bout sending a division of our brave church Nazis in with them, since they love killing so much.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:30 amI wonder if he’ll have time to tell Americans.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:37 amBut how are they going to sell it? They can’t even find Iranian weapons among Iraqi insurgents let alone an Iranian nuclear weapons program. Time is running out if they want both a casus belli, a propaganda campaign *and* a little war all before January.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:40 amhttp://www.cnn.com/ 2008/ WORLD/ meast/ 05/ 20/ bush.quran/ index.html
Bush will send our soldiers to die for an islamic state but he wont apologize when one of those soldiers deliberately desecrates thier holy book.
wow, a cynical soldier who wants the iraqis to kick us out as soon as possible might just get a stack of korans, start using them as target practice, and post it all over youtube..
May 20th, 2008 at 8:52 amThe claim about Gates’ and Rice’s hesitancy is of no value due to the anonymity of the source.
The White House and the Pentagon have been “catapulting the propoganda” on Iran for a couple of years, but there’s no “coalition of the willing” this time around and the US public isn’t willing to be fooled again. I highly doubt Rice’s purported “hesitancy” as being relevant as Bush and CHeney have always replaced reluctant employees with more eager toadies, regardless of past loyalty and service.
The US has two carrier groups in postion to strike Iran with enough planes and cruise missiles to cripple Iran’s Air Force and Navy (on paper anyway). But if that occured the Iraninas might take its army into Iraq against US forces. In my estimation the practicalities are daunting and the prospects extremely dim and it’s possible that Bush is being forced to acknowledge a degree of reality.
If that’s the case though, why is he still spoiling for a fight? Is it just because he’s a belligerent prick who loves to hear himself talk tough? Sure, but we also know that war ‘justifies’ him.
Bush’s apparent failure so far to act upon his desires may just be a matter of timing. It would come as no surprise to me if some incident (or incidents) were to transpire between the end of Bush’s vacation and the Novemeber elections that would serve as a casus belli.
I’m not sure of the current status of the recent Bill demanding that Bush seek approval from Congress before taking military action sepcifically against Iran but there’s no reason to believe that Bush would abide by such a ‘constraint’.
I think all Bush really needs to do is to provide the Navy sufficient cause to act, becasue currently quite isolated from the US public mood though the battle groups are, there is a possibility of some dissention in the ranks–unless of course some of their comrades get blown-up.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:52 amTo examine this strictly from a political perspective, Democrats could hardly hope for a better situation. You have to figure the public would be appalled by an attack on Iran at this point, so what’s McCain to do? Embrace the attack and align himself with Bush’s reckless foreign policy? Or repudiate the attack and further alienate a base that’s already suspicious of him?
Either way, I would prefer that it not happen altogether, particularly since the Confederacy of Dunces that is this administration has no real evidence warranting an attack–not that that’s ever stopped them, of course…
May 20th, 2008 at 8:55 amWell Rumsfield said Bush is a victim of his own sucess , no new terrorist attacks so now the American people are too complacent and want our civil liberties back, So the best thing would be another big attack and since I guess they cant allow that to happen again( Bid-Laden determined to attack inside US) the next best thing is an October suprise .
May 20th, 2008 at 9:04 amBomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran
Why isnt Rumsfield speech from Dec 12th 2006 getting more play from the blogs and traditional media.
Every one should hear this speech. INN World News Report
I wouldn’t be surprised if the attack is launched on Jan. 20, 2009, with missles being launched and bombs dropped shortly before the next president is sworn in, to land after the next president is sworn in. then the Republicans will blame the next president for not preventing the US/Iran war.
Then again, perhaps Bush’s inherent powers as Commander in Chief will allow him to suspend the implementation of the peaceful transition of power - during wartime, of course.
May 20th, 2008 at 9:04 amThere is NOTHING to prevent Buscheney from launching the attack on Iran on Jan 18-19, just days before the inauguration of the next Preznint. In fact, i suspect that that’s their plan, if they can withstand the temptation to start a new war for Bombin’ John…
May 20th, 2008 at 9:06 amBushco needs this to happen to invoke NSPD51 qnd executive order 14348 so he will claim that a substantial national security risk exists to qualify to suspend elections.
May 20th, 2008 at 9:09 amAnyone still think this bunch will relinquish power without a fight?
JFC are these people out of the minds? If Congress doesn’t do something to stop these mad men, we are seriously screwed.
May 20th, 2008 at 9:10 amThey’ll need a new 9/11 to get all the sheeple behind them!

May 20th, 2008 at 9:16 amMarvelous. Congress needs to put BushitCo & Cheney especially on notice that impeachment WILL occur within 24 hours of any non Congressionaly authorized military action against Iran.
Military officers should be put on notice that obeying such an order will result in the shitcanning of their careers come January 09.
May 20th, 2008 at 9:16 am> To examine this strictly from a

Except my prediction is that the attack on Iran, if it comes during Bush’s term, will almost certainly come after Obama has won the election. If McCain cheats and lies his way into office, the PNAC will know he will attack Iran in his own time. But if Obama wins, they know they will never see power again in thier lifetimes, so they will have no problem armadeddoning us into retirement and let obama become a one term president because they’ve left him with a mess.
Look at it this way…how many people getting evicted from thier houses leave it all nice and tidy for the people who are taking it from them? A nuclear strike on Iran is one heckuva way to leave a huge hole in the wall of the apartment that is america..
May 20th, 2008 at 9:17 amActually,
May 20th, 2008 at 9:34 amIf Checey and dinkledoofus perform an unprovoked (and I mean a outward hostile action on Iran’s part) attack/operation or hostility to Iran, I will consider it an overt attack on the American Populace and I will then consider them as enemies of the state and will support any and all efforts for their physical removal. Peaceful or hostile.
Damn, “Checey” should be Cheney

I mean, after the hard sell they rolled out that had most of the country believing Saddam was behind 9/11, they haven’t even come up with a new script for this ad campaign.
It’s like they don’t even care if we buy their story or not. They’re all just going through the motions, pretending like they still have any credibility at all.

I have a feeling this JPost article is to help stir up the base in Israel…
May 20th, 2008 at 9:48 amIn my humble opinion, the 28%’ers are the only ones that would be upset with impeachment during this election cycle. The more rational masses would be energized to put this nightmare to an end and see to it Obama is elected. I think it would have a nationwide galvanizing effect and more Dems would be elected at various levels of government. The people would come out in droves to take their country back.
May 20th, 2008 at 9:58 amStir up the base in Israel?
Pure specualtion but I’m thinking Isreal is blackmailing us to start this war. There are some who say Israel can prove Cheney and the PNAC were behind 9/11. If they don’t start this war, the people will be told the truth.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:01 amIf this madness is real, expect to see leaks from the Pentagon. I don’t believe the uniformed military starting at the JCS level supports attacking Iran . Aside from all other unimaginable consequences, it will put at risk all our troops in Iraq.
An indication of an imminent attack should be placing all our units in Iraq on alert. Of course, since Bush/Cheney/McCain do not worry about grunts, perhaps they would attack without first alerting the troops.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:02 amralph,
They had to sell Bush’s First War because of the second term. This time around, there is no second term, the Repugnicunts are hopelessly destroyed as a party for decades, what does the Petulant Primate have to lose?
Look at it through Bush’s eyes:
He leaves President Obama with an even more horrible mess.
He gets to kill thousand more brown bastards.
He improves greatly the chance of Rapture.
And in 50 years he will be revered.
I am becoming convinced that the last part is true. He will be revered by the majority of people as Saint George, Slayer of the USA. And despised and loathed by the Americans, but that surely doesn’t bother him. He is despised and loathed now.

Trajan,
There’s no need to be hostile. That’s cute.
You support Bush’s War in Iraq, the worst fiasco this country has seen, probably worse than Vietnam in the long run. Thousands of our soldiers killed and maimed, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed, trillions of dollars pissed away, abandoned the search for OBL, sowed hate and vengence in the Muslim world.
And now you are promoting an even greater disaster in Iran.
And you call me hostile? Tell you what dickhead, if that is hostile, this country needs more of it. We need to get in the faces of you cowardly chickenhawks wherever we meet, in the store, on the street, at work.
We need to treat you bastards as the enemy you are, not as fellow Americans. What you stand for is the antithesis of America.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:31 amCalling someone who disagrees with you un-American makes you as bad as the Republicans you hate so much.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:34 amnanlichi,
May 20th, 2008 at 10:35 amI’m not this Trajan you speak of! Sertiously, who is this guy? My point is that there’s no need to get worked up about this. It ain’t happening. Bush is afraid of you Progressives and will do nothing to upset you.
You have won!
Just like the terriorists that they are, they will leave the next president with much more to deal with than a trashed office.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:38 amCertainly Bush and Cheney will lay waste to America’s rebirth with more poor judgement. If they can bury the opposition’s diplomatic effort before they have a chance to get off the ground they will.
Bush and Cheney are dedicated to total world chaos. It’s money in their pockets and out of yours. The idology part will be the topping on their cake.

May 20th, 2008 at 11:14 amnot meant as a rebuke to you or anyone else chocolate, but as a tool to deflate the bloated ego of trolls who think they can ‘rouse the rabble’. May 20th, 2008 at 11:15 amyes it’s very sad that the entire world views our precious States as being hostile. in my travels i have at times been afraid to offend people by saying i am an American. anyone else who has travelled knows what i am talking about. and i think it is a shame that we can’t even debate with one another without becoming crude and ridiculous, trying to one-up each other. it just proves that what people think about us is true. we have to prove otherwise. we have to get out of this backwards thinking that we can just disrespect everyone and then expect them to adopt our “values” and system of government.
May 20th, 2008 at 11:15 amthe remark i have about the ACTUAL subject is similar. i am just very saddened by how hated (rightfully so) our president is. i hope so much that our next president will be honored, if not loved, and respected by each and every one of us, even if we can’t agree with him/her on every issue. and i most of all hope that he/she deserves it for all of our sakes.
Why would someone who claims to have “never heard of” a troll named Trajan read the comments on this thread and project that anyone is “afraid” of said troll?
Frankly, it sounds like exactly the kind of middle-schoolish retort that Trajan might make…
May 20th, 2008 at 11:18 ami wonder how the shuttering of the PNAC website ties in with this…
May 20th, 2008 at 11:25 am…the Administration preferred to resolve concerns about Iran’s push for a nuclear weapon “through peaceful diplomatic means.”
doesn’t that = “appeasement” to bushco???
May 20th, 2008 at 11:29 amThey have been trying to get this war party started, and have given it the same kind of propaganda catapulting they gave to the Iraq invasion. Like they have always done, it is likely they picked October, because, as Andrew Card famously said about the Iraq propaganda campaign “you don’t introduce a new product in August’ or something very much like that. They will do it after the Dem. nominee is chosen, but before the election, for maximum effect. They may also suspend elections using the above cited Presidential directive 51. I too suggest reading Bugliosi’s article in Huffpost. These people should be stopped!

I had a discussion with a right wing friend, the subject is irrelevant, but at the end I was told that “You have your facts, and you have your logic, but I have my faith!” And in his mind, the two were equally persuasive.
On topic…. How can the madman be stopped? Seriously, if Bush orders the bombing of Iran there will be a hell of an uproar and reaction after the fact, but how can he be stopped?
Will the military mutiny en masse? Can Congress tie his hands?
May 20th, 2008 at 11:54 amCan Congress tie his hands?
Of course they can. They can refuse to fund it or the Iraq War any further. They can pass resolutions that say all money allocated for Iraq must be used for redeploying troops out of Iraq itself. They can do any number of things. They could IMPEACH the hijo de puta, but they WON’T and that is the problem.

Actually, send that to Sonny Curtis, who wrote “I Fought the Law”. He is apparently still alive. He was in Buddy Holly’s band and had a notable music career, if not famous one. Bobby Fuller Four did the original recording of the song…which I still prefer over the Clash version.
