McCain to miss Petraeus’s confirmation hearing to raise cash for campaign.»

capt.gifToday, Gen. David Petraeus will testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee for his confirmation as CentCom commander. But Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who has missed 60 percent of votes this session, has other priorities. The AP reports that McCain “is expected to miss the hearing because he is in California,” where he will hold high-dollar fundraisers:

Atherton, CA Finance Luncheon: “Tickets for a Host Committee reception with a photo opportunity are $25,000 per couple (contribute or raise) and tickets for the luncheon are $2,300 per person,” according to McCain’s website.

Stockton, CA Finance Reception: McCain will be attending a “cocktail reception” and fundraiser for his campaign. “Tickets for the general reception are $1,000 per person or $2,300 per person.”

McCain will also hold a media availability and attend a rally in the state. Yesterday, he taped an interview with Ellen Degeneres, which will air today. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), also on the committee, will attend the hearing.

I guess progressives would rather McCain run out of cash.

No one has missed the number of votes as McCain.
Repugs like to point to Obama voting present in Illinois when they know full well that in Illinois present is a vote of assention to a bill that only needs a little tweaking. It’s done all the time in Illinois and has no negative implication. Repugs never like to hear the number of votes missed by McCain because after all, IOKIYAR.

this is telling, and not surprising:

In California, McCain has few words on gay marriage
San Jose Mercury News - 4 hours ago

Just a week ago, John McCain decried the decision to legalize gay marriage in California. Today you can catch him on TV chatting with Ellen DeGeneres, America’s foremost lesbian entertainer who within hours of the landmark ruling …

Hmm, the waters run slow and shallow with this one.

I’m glad McCain is missing this hearing. Although I bet he’ll find a way to fawn all over Petraeus from afar.

Item in today’s NY Daily News about the RNC having over $40 Million in the bank as of the end of April vs. the DNC finishing April with only $4.4 Million.

It would provide a certain kind of poetic symmetry, pant-load. McNumbNuts has already run out of ideas, integrity and relevance. He might as well be out of cash, too.

Have no fear…any fissures (chasms) in McCain’s “maverick” veneer will be neatly spackled by the conservative corporate media ownership.

I predict the runaway Wright convoy will meet no Hagee speedbumps…

Why should the Republican nominee for President actually show that he cares about something as important as the Armed Services Committee? It’s not like we’re at war or anything, right?

Stockton is the foreclosure capital. Isn’t it fitting that he tries to raise money in the same place where there are thousands of homeless people?

What is McInsane doing in that picture? Was he about to be attacked by ninjas? Did somebody light a match and he said, Aaarrrggg! Fire no good! What is the matter with the Republican party in this nation? George W wasn’t bad enough, lets replace him with the Manchurian Candidate?!?!?!!
Impeach Cheney and Bush and Save the Constitution!

I think he might be doing a little tai chi. Old people love tai chi.

  12. JMOHR Says:

We need to start some attacks on McCain on his attendance issue. It is one thing to miss votes when you are actively on the campaign trail during a primary or the election. However, McCain is the presumptive nominee. The Democrats are still in their primary fight. No one would begrudge McCain the right to campaign but he should be able to meet his obligations as a senator. We saw it used against Kerry and Obama. Respond in kind.

  13. backup Says:

JMOHR. You’re right about his attendance. He’s so busy running for president, he’s not there for his job in the Senate.

If you look at the rankings of how liberal or conservative each senator is, McCain didn’t cast enough votes in ‘07 to even register:

    http://nj.nationaljournal.com/voteratings/

Members who missed more than half of the votes in any of the three issue categories did not receive a composite score in NJ’s ratings. (This rule was imposed after Kerry was ranked the most liberal senator in our 2003 ratings despite having missed more than half of the votes in two categories.) Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the only other senator whose presidential candidacy survived the initial round of primaries and caucuses this year, did not vote frequently enough in 2007 to draw a composite score. He missed more than half of the votes in both the economic and foreign-policy categories. On social issues, which include immigration, McCain received a conservative score of 59. (McCain’s composite scores from his prior years in the Senate, published in our March 2007 vote ratings issue, are available here.)

    Missing in Action.

    Missing in the Senate.

    Missing the voting.

    Missing the point.

  15. backup Says:

Considering the lists of liberal/conservative rankings, I think it’s interesting that now progressives are painting a picture of McCain as being worse than Bush (I understand, it’s politics):

What is the matter with the Republican party in this nation? George W wasn’t bad enough, lets replace him with the Manchurian Candidate?!?!?!!

But, if you look at how McCain votes (when he bothers to show up):

    http://www.nationaljournal.com/ members/ news/ 2007/ voteratings/ sen/ lib_cons.htm?o1=con_composite&o2=desc

He’s right there in the ideological middle of the pack (along side Ben Nelson and Dick Lugar).

Is McCain really as bad as Bush in the eyes of progressives or is this just election year posturing?

  16. J Says:

Can we please NOT give General Petraeus a god-damned promotion? You can’t be serious!

  17. gus smith Says:

Wasn’t Ellen serious about another female, Ann Hecht, a few years ago? Marriage between any persons should be a serious commitment. There are just not enough disincentives for broken relationships.

Sorry, I WAS reading about Ellen and McCain’s discussion..?

you are correct, also the campaign fund raiser is with Alex Spanos 7th largest residential builder in the US, owner of the San Diego Chargers…

pssssttt…. he’d really like to keep his tax cuts.

a little ironic that he lives in Stockton, and it’s the foreclosure capital of California… or is that Merced, modesto, sacramento…… oh well.
