In 2000, McCain joked that he’d be too old to run for president in 2008.

On Aug. 1, 2000, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) appeared on PBS’s Newshour with Jim Lehrer. When asked about the possibility that he might run for president in 2008, McCain said that he would probably be too old:

LEHRER: Finally for the record, you have not lost your desire to be President of the United States have you?

McCAIN: Certainly it’s been put in deep cold storage. haha..

LEHRER: You haven’t lost it?

McCAIN: Well, in 2004, I expect to be campaigning for the reelection of President George W. Bush, and by 2008, I think I might be ready to go down to the old soldiers home and await the cavalry charge there.

Over at the Wonk Room, Igor looks at McCain’s medical records secrecy.

That may have been the last truly coherent thing that he’s said

I was just thinking the same thing, robbez.

I’ve never heard of the “men in white coats” referred to as the “cavalry”, but whatever, McInsane.

So he lied in 2000. So what else is new?

  14. ralph the wonder llama says:

Gigi (or “Gone_Goofy” or Annie’s latest, “goof-gushy”) demonstrates just how little she has to work with each time she posts the same pathetic talking-point in a different thread.

Actually, it’s kind of admirable that she shows up to do battle unarmed the way she does. Most of the trolls have been driven off by the toxic environment conservatives have created for themselves.

He was aware of his old age before the old-timers set in.

Is Paris Hilton related to McCain’s wife? They seem so much alike.

As long as Mc Cain doesn’t lean on anything during the debates, he is going to kick Obama’s ass.

On what do you base this unlikely prediction?

  18. Art says:

He was much younger and cogent in 2000.

Now, he’s kind of like a drunk, after his 5th or 6th, who begins to think he is really intelligent, clever and attractive.
