The Phoenix Business Journal reports:
A Tuesday fundraiser headlined by President Bush for U.S. Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign is being moved out of the Phoenix Convention Center.
Sources familiar with the situation said the Bush-McCain event was not selling enough tickets to fill the Convention Center space, and that there were concerns about more anti-war protesters showing up outside the venue than attending the fundraiser inside.
Another source said there were concerns about the media covering the event.
Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal also reported that Bush’s “impact appears to be reduced” in raising money for congressional candidates as well. Through early May, he had raised only $36.6 million for GOP candidates, compared with $66.6 million last year.
36.6 million a shocking number I had no idea there where that many idiots left in the Good Ol’ Boy America
May 24th, 2008 at 9:34 amHas Bush no pride. Can’t he just stay home and save the taxpayers mighty dollars on gas and the whole entourage charade. Enough is enough of this failure.
May 24th, 2008 at 9:40 amLOL, Soon to be located at a public men’s rest room in a tiny little town no one can find…..Blessings
May 24th, 2008 at 9:44 amMan, what a hoot this story is.
“..there were concerns about more anti-war protesters showing up outside the venue than attending the fundraiser inside.”
And that just makes the story that much better. Thanks to all you AZ folk and others that had planned to show up and do our troops proud.
That is the kind of real support for the troops the gutless GOP and their fawning chickenhawks will never comprehend.
Way to start the weekend. Thanks TP!
May 24th, 2008 at 9:47 amOn this Memorial Day weekend, when we honor all the fallen soldiers that have given up their lives for this country, it should give all Republicans something to think about.
These men and women made the ultimate sacrifice for the very freedoms these two men want to take away. I find this a fitting honor that the anti-war protesters would have outnumbered the people attended the fundraiser.
The only time we should ever go to war should be for extreme human rights violations. It should never be guided by greed and profiteers. If we could take the profit out of wars; there would be fewer wars.

“attended the fundraiser.”
Should have been attending the fundraiser.
Sorry, not enough caffeine yet this morning.. Everyone have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend….
May 24th, 2008 at 10:03 amAfter the republican idioti are inside, I suggest we lock them in for a week, ala New Orleans Convention Center-style; see how they fare with an appropriate taste…
May 24th, 2008 at 10:03 amPerhaps Babs Bush will opine, “Well, they were overprivileged anyway, so this is working out very well for them…”
May 24th, 2008 at 10:12 amRaindrops keep falling on my crocodile head.
May 24th, 2008 at 10:28 amRemember where Bush draws his money from:
“This is an impressive crowd – the haves and the have-mores,” quipped the GOP standard-bearer [Bush]. “Some people call you the elites; I call you my base.”
May 24th, 2008 at 10:37 amExcept, perhaps, ex-Senator Craig.
May 24th, 2008 at 10:39 amPffff, and they say Hillary “-$20mil” Clinton would be the better candidate against Mr. flaky dry skin.
McCain is raising his sums through posh little get togethers with his blood-drinking buddies. Obama is raising far more through small individual donations. Who has the meaningful distribution of support?
Barack Obama: The man who runs a political campaign like its 2008.
(P.S.– Hillary, ournomineenomatterwhatyousayorhowwevote, 1992 left a message on your answering machine.)
May 24th, 2008 at 10:40 amConcerns about anti-war protesters is BS
They would have stuffed them into “Free Speech Zones” as before
This was about the embarrassment of ‘no interest’ in Bush or McCain – in McSame’s own backyard
lol

May 24th, 2008 at 10:54 amDamn, I was beaten to the Larry Craig joke….
May 24th, 2008 at 10:54 amBoo-frickin’-hoo.
May 24th, 2008 at 10:55 amThat’s still a helluva lot of money from donations to a loser.
I suppose it is just that difficult for some die hards to accept reality, so they continue to throw money at it, hoping that it will improve.
It is sort of a paradox — repugs only want to make money, keep money and value money over so much in life, yet they continue to waste money by throwing it down a hole in the ground called Bush/McCain/Republican. Their Midas like attempts to hoard for themselves has actually caused them to become irrational.
Apparently some, however, have seen the light and won’t donate to a lost cause.

May 24th, 2008 at 10:59 amBnF and blue state, Yep! was thinking that when I posted…Maybe the 3 can meet at a local Exxon station men’s room…….LOL..Surely AZ has some of those…Blessings
May 24th, 2008 at 11:00 amThank’s Marie, been up since 4 and the coffee has kicked in…Off to plant some flower’s..You all have a great day posting….Blessings

Why I am surprised that Goon_golly is such a Bush/McCain sycophant, one troglodyte supporting another,
May 24th, 2008 at 11:25 amthere were concerns about more anti-war protesters showing up outside the venue than attending the fundraiser inside.
No, it wasn’t the protesters. It was the cameras. The ones that take pictures of all those empty seats. McCain/Bush didn’t want the world to see 666 people spread out in a convention center that holds thousands. It’s the cameras and empty seats…..
May 24th, 2008 at 11:26 am“Another source said there were concerns about the media covering the event.”
May 24th, 2008 at 11:27 amEveryone knows that the “media” screws everything up.

Seriously… What “concerns”? That they might tell the story?

Plausibly explain the so-called self-destruction of our party. A cheap declaration doesn’t cut it.

Olbermann ‘Special Comment’: Clinton RFK remark ‘unforgivable’
Good_Golly might be more right than we care to admit about the Democratic Party self-destructing. For Hillary to even obliquely suggest that one’s political opponent in a campaign could be assassinated should evoke an outcry from all corners.
May 24th, 2008 at 11:54 amA big big hat tip should go out to:
Phoenix Radio Station 1480 KPHX – The Valley’s Progressive Talk
http://www.1480kphx.com
The KPHX local radio hosts have really been doing a great job organizing and promoting the protests!
KPHX has “More of the McSame” billboards all over Phoenix!
Check out the KPHX websight for Photos & streaming info!
P.S.
May 24th, 2008 at 12:07 pmDon’t forget that KPHX is the flagship station for the Nova M

And so it has. My conservative newspapers covered it, although rather dryly, as did the local conservative news (It’s amazing that Chicago area has such strongly republican media), but the blogs, CNN, and MSNBC have given it wall to wall coverage.
The Clinton people are uncharacteristically quiet.
May 24th, 2008 at 12:09 pmKevkev,
May 24th, 2008 at 12:10 pmWhat is Randi Rhodes saying about this latest flap by Clinton?
Olbermann’s special comment is worth watching.
Hillary needs to drop out on June 4th, after the SD and MT primaries. If she drags this to the convention I will do everything in my power to back another Democrat to run against her in 2012. I live in NYC, so she’s my senator and not making me too proud or happy that I voted for her.
May 24th, 2008 at 12:11 pmthey should give out tickets on the rush limpabugh show, it would be like some nightmarish white supremacist version of jerry springer./..

That is a very good point, because the current Government Affairs PSI is obviously out to lunch or permanently on recess until the new administration.
I like the way you think….
May 24th, 2008 at 12:47 pmDoes anyone else get a whiff of desperation from gigi’s attmepts to convince herself that everything’s gonna be all right?
May 24th, 2008 at 12:47 pmMcCain’s candidacy is generating enthusiasm primarily amongst the establishment media who cover it. Less than one year ago, his campaign was considered moribund, because so few Republicans liked him and so many others despised him. Now he is the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee, because all the other candidates (Ron Paul excluded) were more suited for jobs as circus clowns than president. As the Obama bandwagon gains steam, I expect to see him attract crowds even larger than the 75,000 who saw him in Portland. What we have in this election is a massive enthusiasm gap that may get wider as the differences between the two candidates become increasingly apparent.

I doubt you will get an explanation. They have never given us an explanation as to why they are totally ignoring the Democratic primary race either. We all know why, but they don’t have the courage to come out and tell us. They don’t want to face the criticism they will receive for their boneheaded decision.

Keith was on fire! Hillary needs to drop out on Tuesday if she has any hope of being able to do it with any shred of dignity. I believe that on Tuesday, there will be a flood of supers declaring for Obama. There is no way Hillary can recover from this latest mistake.

The “Democratic Party self-destructing” is off topic…and misleading…
It’s Hillarious Clinton and her soul chomping ego that’s “self-destructing”
May 24th, 2008 at 5:54 pmThis is truly embarassing. The Bush/McCain Republican Party is reduced to holding what are little more than political Tupperware parties because they are unable to sell enough tickets to make paying for an arena cost-effective in John McCain’s home state. I predict McCain will be lucky to get 200 Electoral votes and will lose the popular to Obama by double digits. This is a very, very, very bad year to be a Republican.
May 24th, 2008 at 8:40 pmIt is a measure of the disconnect between the rich and powerful leaders and the people they supposedly serve; that they conduct their business hidden behind the walls of their private compounds.
Their dealings are not made public, and they squander the resources and energy which belong to the public.
May 24th, 2008 at 8:49 pmThey are nothing more than thugs and gangsters.
The ultimate form of organized crime.
McCain should have Bush at his barbeque…maybe even as the subject. I’m sure he could sell massive amounts of tickets to that roasting.
May 24th, 2008 at 10:18 pmSo they moved it to some Millionaire’s Home where the Top1% can feel more comfortable subverting the Democratic Process – in the Shadows and behind closed doors where they are used to operating.
May 25th, 2008 at 12:28 pmHave they considered charging people to not attend because I’d pay money to not hear either of them read/speak from a teleprompter.
May 26th, 2008 at 9:56 amI hear they considered moving it to Bagdad, AZ, population: minimal. Yes, there really is a Bagdad, AZ. They’d feel more at home there and us protesters can’t afford the gas to get there.
