Last week, John McCain rejected the endorsement of Rod Parsley, the pastor who has derided Islam as a “false religion” that is the greatest “enemy of our civilization.” One day after proclaiming that he would not withdraw his endorsement of McCain, Parsley issued a statement Saturday, explaining that he was indeed withdrawing it. Spokesman Gene Pierce wouldn’t shed light on Parsley’s decision, saying only “this statement is a clarification on (Friday’s) statement.”
If the so-called rapture is going to take these zealots off the planet all at once, I say “BRING IT ON”. At least this exercise is showing the masses how truly disturbed these “christians” really are. Jesus would be ashamed at the hate spoken in his name.
McCain needs to whip up a whole new batch of Fundie Stew. Hold the Parsley.
PEACE
May 25th, 2008 at 2:05 amI sent an email to the Parsley website yesterday, congratulating them on the ass-kicking they have taken in the Culture Wars. The religious right is so out of touch with the majority of America and they don’t even realize it because the remain largely insulated within their little Christian society. He really thought this was a Christian nation! I wonder what he’s thinking today. All of his hysterical Christian ranting, and that of Hagee, has gotten both of them booted out of positions within the GOP! They thought they at least had cover within that party. So where do they turn now?
@ Spencer’s Mom – Jesus would never own a gun and would never vote Republican! LOL!

May 25th, 2008 at 2:40 amAs far as I am concerned Mr. Parsley is a FALSE CHRISTIAN….
May 25th, 2008 at 2:57 amAll organized religions are false. Why does anybody need to be told what to believe? Who has the audacity to say that they are closer to God than anyone else?
May 25th, 2008 at 3:21 amThe dog is black. Let me clarify that. The dog is white.
May 25th, 2008 at 3:57 amPreviously, and on tape, Sen McCain, had heaped praise on Rev. Parsley….the pastor who has derided Islam as a “false religion” that is the greatest “enemy of our civilization”.
When Arabs in the Middle East learn of this, and then consider how their high priced oil, and flight from the Dollar, is harming the US Economy….their reaction is predictably…. ” So??? “
May 25th, 2008 at 6:56 amFirst you say you do
May 25th, 2008 at 7:43 amAnd then you don’t
And then you say you will
And then you won’t
You’re undecided now
So what are you gonna do?
Now you want to play
And then it’s no
And when you say you’ll stay
That’s when you go
You’re undecided now
So what are you gonna do?
I’ve been sitting on a fence
And it doesn’t make much sense
‘Cause you keep me in suspense
And you know it
Then you promise to return
When you don’t
I really burn
Well, I guess I’ll never learn
And I show it
If you’ve got a heart
And if you’re kind
Then don’t keep us apart
Make up your mind
You’re undecided now
So what are you gonna do?
I guess this means he won’t be saying grace at the barbeque this weekend.
May 25th, 2008 at 8:36 amThere’s nothing funnier than unhappiness quoth Monsieur Beckett. Who might also say of Rod Parsley: It is right that he too should have his little chronicle, his memories, his reason, and be able to recognize the good in the bad, the bad in the worst, and so grow [wretchedly] old down all the unchanging days, and die one day like any other day, only shorter.
NOW YOU HATE-MONGERING PUKE… WOULD JUST DISAPPEAR AND TAKE HILLARY WITH YOU! YOU HAVE PROVEN TO BE IRRELEVANT…
THX.

lol.
May 25th, 2008 at 9:30 amRod Parsley, the pastor who has derided Islam as a “false religion” that is the greatest “enemy of our civilization.”
A great irony of human civilization is the idiocy of people who follow the Abrahamic Religions.
May 25th, 2008 at 9:33 amAll 3 religions, Christianity, Islam and Judaism are all from the same Abrahamic roots. All started at the same place, with a hill/sky god that required blood sacrifice of animals and people, even children. It is a bloody and hateful history. To this day, they still shed blood and spread hate even of their own Abrahamic brethren as well as anyone else different from them.
These 3 branches have shed so much innocent blood over the centuries I have no idea how anyone could equate their “God” with love with even the most twisted logic.
Why is Hillary exploiting sexism as an excuse when it was the racism of her campaign leading to her demise?
May 25th, 2008 at 9:45 amBecause she is desperate.
May 25th, 2008 at 9:51 amThe Abrahamic Religions have intolerance enshrined in their commandments from God. “Thou shall have no other God before me.”
That designates all those who worship other Gods as Infidels. This probably explains why Buddists and Hindus have a problem with the 10 commandments hanging on the courthouse wall.
The other enduring legacy of the Abrahamic Religions:Patriarchy
From Jezebel to Mary Magdaline to Burkas…Equal Rights for Women has not been a concern to the Abrahamic Religious doctrines.

Victim of Sexism? Women Rally ‘Round Clinton
Some Female Supporters Say Obama Gets Away With Sexist Remarks
http://abcnews.go.com/WN/Vote2008/Story?id=4925375&page=1
May 25th, 2008 at 10:12 amWhat in the world and the other elements of the planetary system are some Hillary supporters thinking?
The Clintons have been undoubtly racist towards Obama, so now Obama must be called sexist, without evidence, as a cheap way to even the score?
Nice comeback, Hillary. Your constituents in NY think you have some explaining to do once Obama is the nominee.
May 25th, 2008 at 10:20 amNeener, neener…

Well since the Abrahamic doctrines consider women property, why would they even consider equal rights for property?
I am amazed how any self respecting woman could knowingly be a devoted follower of any of the 3 branches. Religion is not logical though LOL
May 25th, 2008 at 10:56 amThe only logical religious path for a woman is the way of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Mmmmmm…
May 25th, 2008 at 11:02 amI’m beginning to think that the Abrahamic religions arose from the undesirable misfit males whom the goddess cultures drove out of camp for being unfit to reproduce.
May 25th, 2008 at 11:08 amHoward Wolfson was on FtN today and actually said that Obama is to blame for the flap over Clinton’s remarks.
May 25th, 2008 at 11:10 am“He didn’t accept her (so-called) apology soon enough.
His campaign initially said the remarks were unfortunate.”
I am constantly astounded by the arrogant attitude of the Clinton people and their assertion that they deserve the nomination because they are who they are.

What’s worse, on evidence, he’s also pretty clearly a FALSE AMERICAN, too. With a church and a world-wide teevee audience…

May 25th, 2008 at 11:13 amWell, it’s certainly been a while. How is everyone?
I see TP now has user registration. That seems to be a definite upgrade.
As for McCain, it’s interesting that he has two religious nut problems, and yet the media doesn’t give it a tenth of the attention it gave Obama’s one nut problem. It’s too bad we don’t get to elect ‘media representatives’ and get rid of the current batch – except for Jack Cafferty, of course.

May 25th, 2008 at 11:16 amI am not a religious person — but as a child, I was taught that we should not be like the pharisees and boast of our faith before an audience, but we should go into a private and quiet place to pray.
May 25th, 2008 at 11:16 amI have never thought that these televangelists were any different from the false preachers fictionalized by Elmer Gantry.

Absolutely. We followers of the FSM love and appreciate men for exactly who they are — as long as you love pasta and can drink mass quantities of beer.

Hey Wayne – how are you?
I’d add black, gay and human to that mix. I’ve come to the cnclusion that most Christians have never actually read the bibles. That they just pick and choose so that they can belong to the club. Most people I know who’ve actually read the “good” book are Atheists or Agnostics.

May 25th, 2008 at 11:44 amHi Marie!
This morning I saw a news article about McCain advertizing on his website for new trolls to attack liberal blogs, and well, it made me think of the “good ol’ days” at TP when it was free for all :). Just thought I’d stop by, see what was new, and say hello. Hope you’re doing well.
May 25th, 2008 at 11:45 amHi Wayne!
Good to see you! I’ve been really good – swamped – but good. How about you?
Exciting what’s been going on in the political world, huh? Makes me wonder if all these years of blogs like these and commenters like us have actually help shift the paradigm? It seemed like one morning, America just woke up and got it. Pretty cool, non?

Perhaps the so-called Christians should go back to the source of Jesus teachings…. The Gnostic/Essene Scriptures, and toss out that insane bloodbath, The Bible.

Just think what a stroke of genius McCain has now accomplished: He first deliberately distances himself from sensible Moderates by associating with the most far-right lunatics. THEN after embracing these key religious figures, McCain alienates the far-right by distancing himself away from them again.
Brilliant!
