Lieberman to headline Hagee’s ‘Washington-Israel Summit’»

After a sermon by Pastor John Hagee describing the Holocaust as the will of God surfaced, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) rejected Hagee’s endorsement last week. Max Blumenthal reports that Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT), however, is still actively supporting Hagee:

Senator Joseph Lieberman is scheduled to headline Pastor John Hagee’s 2008 Christians United For Israel Washington-Israel Summit this July 22. In accepting Hagee’s invitation, Lieberman became the most senior elected representative confirmed to appear at the annual gala.

Last year, Lieberman compared Hagee to the biblical prophet Moses. On May 13, Lieberman said Hagee “represents a lot of people in this country, particularly Christians who care about the state of Israel.”

Let the religious whackos have it.

Hey Connecticut, can’t you re-call this guy?

  2. upside99 Says:

Looks like JoeL is still as crazy as ever. Go Jo Go! And maybe you can be Johnny Boy’s running mate.

    Heh Heh…….

  3. raynman Says:

That’s what this is all about… McSame can reject Hagee’s endorsement while at the same time, his presumptive VP can continue to support Hagee and *wink wink* ensure that the Republican ticket still really supports Hagee’s views.

  4. Guido the Loving OBGYN Says:

lol Hagee does not care about Israelis. Lieberman’s position on Israeli support is unsustainable. Desperate.

  5. tokin librul Says:

Lieberman’s the unofficial senator for Judea. Everything else he does springs from that first loyalty…

  6. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Lieberman clearly does not understand the reason why Hagee is such a staunch “supporter” of Israel. If he did, I am sure he would think twice about associating with him. Hagee does not want to see Israel destroyed by its enemies because he wants to see God destroy it instead. Doesn’t Holy Joe know this?

  7. mary Says:

Sorry Mr. Bungle, my understanding is that there is no provision in the U.S. Constitution for a recall of federal employees.

  8. Badmoodman Says:

I was glad to see that Lieberman’s single scene in HBO’s Recount portrayed him in a bad light. Now, he must be trying to atone for his Surrender Monkey days.

  9. mary Says:

‘Lieberman was aware of many of Hagee’s vile statements well before McCain renounced him. On May 13, Fox News’ Megyn Kelly asked Lieberman to respond to the gathering criticism of Hagee’s remarks. But instead of distancing himself from Hagee’s views as McCain had, Lieberman launched into a spirited defense of the televangelist, describing him as someone who “represents a lot of people in this country, particularly Christians who care about the state of Israel.”‘

  10. Rowan Berkeley Says:

Maybe he can be McCain’s running mate? Who knew?

  11. barfly Says:

    Wayne A. Schneider Says:

He would literally have to be too stupid to breathe, were he really that ignorant. And Joe’s too politically adept to ever actually believe the things he says. He thinks his audience is that stupid…

  12. DRxJ Says:

Okay, I understand that Lieberman is no longer a Democrat, but it appears he is no longer a believer of his Judea ancestors.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t support Mr. “the Holocaust was the will of God” Hagee as the next “Moses”.

    Seriously, WTF happened to Joey????

You are right in that there is nothing in the constitution about recalling federally-elected officials, either for doing it or prohibiting the states from doing it. It would be up to each state to decide its own mechanism for such a thing.

  14. theswan Says:

Connecticut elected Joe Lieberman to the Knesset

  15. Guido the Loving OBGYN Says:

Of course Lieberman knows what Christ for Israel means. Israelis play into that for their survival. But the Christian Zioninsts are fringe in American society. So it’s an unsustainable position.

Oil and Nation Building on the other hand…

”Blumenthal’s latest that takes us on a shocking and at times bizarre tour of right-wing Pastor John Hagee’s annual Washington-Israel Summit”. Hagee introduces Liebermann by saying that he supports Joe’s vision of attacking Iran.

shocking and bizarre, to say the least… scary.

  18. misshusseinmolly Says:

It’s not that unusual that Joe Lieberman is headlining this conference — I believe he spoke at this conference last year as well.

And it’s not that unusual that Lieberman would support any “Israel first even if it means the rest of the world gets flushed down the toilet” ideology.

What really blows my mind is that Lieberman has absolutely no criticism of Hagee’s theory that the Holocaust was the “will of God”. Does Joe truly agree with this? Does he honestly believe that if God wanted to push Jews toward Palestine, He would employ a method that would result in the extermination of six million people? Not that I presume to know the way God operates, but I daresay that Hagee doesn’t either.

Lieberman has either lost his mind, or he’s selling out his soul to the evangelical nutcase right.

  19. ralph the wonder llama Says:

You gotta hand it to Holy Joe, don’tcha?

He bear-hugs the Republican Party just at the moment it’s becoming irrelevant, whispers sweet nothings in McSame’s ear as he faces a Democratic tidal wave in the fall, and now he sends Hagee a bouquet of red roses just days after McSame was forced to renounce him.

Ol’ Turncoat Joe… it’s all about timing.

  20. celtic cynic Says:

It’s a shame that Lieberman doesn’t understand the policy of separation of church and state.
It’s also a shame that the media doesn’t call him on it.

  21. larkohio Says:

Joe has lost it. Hagee is a bigot, and certainly no Christian. Joe is really crazy now. If he didn’t irritate me so much, I would feel sorry for him.

Daryll does. You could always ask him.

  23. RUCerious Says:

I’d like to compare Hagee to Moses, but Hagee’s not a rotting corpse that’s several thousand years old. Yet, he disturbingly reminds one of just that.

  24. RUCerious Says:

Oh, crap Ralph, how could you? Now the demonic Daryll presence has been invoked. Geebuz.

  25. RUCerious Says:

katy, I watched that Rapture ready video over the weekend, and was BLOWN AWAY at how gullible, and fixated the Xians for Israel are.
Each and every one of them seemed thrilled at the prospect of then end times.
Maybe they could draw straws to play Slim Pickens, riding the bomb down to Tehran!

  26. Zimzone Says:

I caught 30 seconds of Hagee’s Sunday Sales Services.
He’s pushing a really bad movie about the Devil and a Christian warrior.
War is all Hagee ever talks about, so LIEberman fits right in.
LIEberman & Chertoff- ’serving Israel while being paid by us’.

  27. stateofthedivision Says:

Maybe Pastor Hagee can get in the Galilee World Development, unless Rev. Pat Robertson’s apology greased the skids for his re-entry.

  28. barfly Says:

I just find the whole thing a badly-cut gemstone, with multifaceted flaws. The Israelis can’t overtly support these end-timers agenda, because it involves their own supposed destruction, yet they like the clout the group offers them in American politics. The Armageddon groupies think it’s fine to convert Jews to Christianity, so they won’t be Left Behind, ignoring the reality that a nuclear explosion (Armageddon, in their reconning) in the region is virtually an impossibility, because of the potential for collateral damage caused by fallout. All their bomb Iran rhetoric is just silly, given the geo-political realities of the region: any nuclear detonation would be disastrous for muslims in the region, making it highly unlikely. Would Iran really bomb Israel, if it meant the possibility of thousands of muslim victims in the region?

  29. tokin librul Says:

With there being the chance that either a woman or a black may become the next Preznint of the USofA, the price of gas keeping them off the hiways in their gas-guzzling ‘motor-homes,’ the Hagee contingent doesn’t see the point of living any longer. Unfortunately, and the main draw-back of that scheme, of course, for them to realize their own righteous destruction, it has to rain fire down on EVERYBODY ELSE. This slight complication, for the Hagee crowd, obviously is not a bug but a feature…

  30. Leporello Says:

Pastor Hagee as Moses? What, is he now going to lead the children of God out of bondage and into the promised land? Or is he going to skip that step and jump right to givin us God’s Law? I’ve heard of some Awful metaphores, but that one’s ridiculous! Here’s hoping that the good people of Connecticut finally get angry enough to de-elect that lunatic!
Impeach Cheney and Bush and Save the Constitution!

  31. AlphaLiberal Says:

I get the same feeling watching Joe Lieberman these days as I do watching a friend who has succumbed to alcoholism or some other addiction. The guy has lost all principles and is sinking into a self-mocking morass of inanity.

RUCerious Says: Oh, crap Ralph, how could you? Now the demonic Daryll presence has been invoked. Geebuz.

Would you disown me if I told you that I have missed Darryl a little bit :D (Not as much as you).

  33. unbelievable Says:

Last year, Lieberman compared Hagee to the biblical prophet Moses

While archeologists in Egypt have been able to find the remains of very small clans of desert nomads from 5,000+ years ago, they have found NOTHING from the mythical Moses and his 40,000 followers living in the desert for 40 years.

As a result, this lack of empirical evidence for Moses and his followers suggests that he was nothing more than another literary figure invented to tell a story. I wish we could say the same about Joe Lieberman and his followers.

  34. Paul W Says:

After a sermon by Pastor John Hagee describing the Holocaust as the will of God surfaced,

Lieberman has always been described as a moderate by his supporters, as a “reasonable” man not swayed by partisan politics. In fact, Lieberman is a radical, warmongering wingnut and his support of Hagee proves it.

    Self hating Jew much, Joe?

  37. Lars Says:

Well, I look at it this way: Joe Lieberman doesn’t have any party bosses to answer to.

Right now he has all the advantages of being both a Democrat and a Republican, without any of the responsibilities.

  39. oldtree Says:

Never would have suspected Joe of being a nazi the way he talks about being jewish and such. But his actions prove it. There can be no doubt if he embraces someone that was all in favor of putting his, and millions of other families in the ovens.

  40. Louis Lemire Says:

Joe couldn’t care less about the 1,000,000+ Iraqis murdered. Why should he care about the 6,000,000+ jews murdered in WWII?

He is a traitor. Unfortunetly the people of CT haven’t caught on yet.

  41. Leftside Annie Says:

Awww, now, isn’t that nice?? Hagee, McLame and LIEberman want to invite the Jews of Israel to the biggest BBQ ever!!!

Those crazy kids want to BBQ the entire Middle East with nuclear weapons — and the Israelis are just the hors d’oeuvres!
