McCain campaign avoids mentioning Bush in ‘daily e-mail update.’

Today, President Bush and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will hold a joint fundraiser in Phoenix. But McCain has been doing everything possible to avoid a public appearance with the President, as the event will be private and “out of the public eye.” Politico’s Jonathan Martin adds that in “its daily e-mail update to reporters this morning, McCain’s campaign made no mention that the leader of the free world would be appearing with the candidate tonight.”

Update MSNBC reports that the White House has "confirm[ed]" that the fundraiser was moved to a private location to "avoid cameras":

All campaign contributions must be publicly dsiclosed. If you have to pay to attend, we will know who attended. I don’t care what the Supreme Court says (they were wrong to say it, and they were basing the decision on a lie), but public officials should be forced to disclse the advice they are being given. They don’t work for themselves, and they don’t work for shareholders, they work for the people of the United States and we are entitled to know what crazy advice our leaders are being given. Anyone who doesn’t want their advice to the president made public is not giving advice that is in the public interest. Why should it be protected from scrutiny?

“I would be proud to have President Bush campaign with me and support me in any way that he feels is appropriate. And I would appreciate it.”

How does Johnny Boy deny the Siamese twin (Dubya) attached to him for the rest of his sorry hypocritical life?

OHHH…. by not looking in the mirror!

Why would Gordon Brown be appearing with McInsane?

  5. DieNowForPeace says:

Try as hard as he might, he’s got Shrub’s stink ALL OVER HIMSELF.

  6. StratRat says:

Sadly, there are still folks who think McSame will be better for this country than any other candidate. I have no idea how or why they believe that. I thought humans were the superior species.

  7. DieNowForPeace says:

Want to know he’s actually pulling the Worlds strings?

It won’t matter who the next President is.

  8. ralph the wonder llama says:

Presumably, if asked a straightforward question, Grampy McSame would sheepishly admit that President Bush will attend the fund-raiser.

After all, if no one asks him about the visit, he’s not lying if he fails to mention it.

  9. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

    Superior Sheepies!

  10. Fritz says:

Gramps McSame, you can try and hide the stink, but it’s still there…

  11. Zimzone says:

You can run, Senator, but you cannot hide!

Reminds me of the movie ‘Stuck on You’, eh? Siamese twins playing ’solo’ roles with the other twin hiding behind it.

    Great movie, bad candidate.

  12. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

McNotwithstanding rejects the endorsements he seeks.

  13. 5th Estate says:

ooh, the massive security detail is going to be a bit of a giveaway, don’t you think?

  14. raynman says:

Publicly distancing yourself from the President might be the smartest thing that McSame has done…. until he turns around and denies it (watch for that by Friday)

  15. Buckie Boy says:

Grampy McSame says – My friends back in the day we didn’t have cameras, we had stone carvings, with vegetable dyes, we didn’t need to take pictures right away, oh no, now a days they take pictures that talk, yes that’s right, and when you are joined at the hip to Bush you don’t want any pictures of that, now do ya, why I can remember being joined at the hip to a billy goat, I didn’t want pictures taken then, why would I do it now, I love balloons at the fair, big red ones….oh dear, I’ve got pie in my pants again…cherry pie.

Gramps you are a clone of your siamese twin, or is it Dumber and Dumbest?

Reminds me of the line David Spade said in Joe Dirt:

Yyewww. I got the poooo on me!

  17. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Gee, Mr. President, why do you feel you need to “avoid cameras”? I thought you believed you were doing the right thing in Iraq all along. Why are you going to hide? Might it be because you really can’t defend yourself against charges that you started this war in Iraq for the sole purpose of there always being a war in Iraq? What’s the matter, Mr. President? No longer proud of that decision (made in Jan 2001)?

  18. mary says:

Now even their fundraisers are being kept secret!

The Republican party has become a giant private club in which only the top 5% richest of them gets to know what’s going on. (The other 95% think they belong but don’t realize that they’re just being used.)

  20. spicecakes69 says:

The news broke on Saturday – the event was moved because they could not find enough Repugnantcans top fill the Convention Center … yes – this is to avoid cameras – but also to avoid the embarrassment of an empty arena.

  21. StratRat says:

Please read Wayne’s post at 17. He asks the perfect questions. Why would Bush hide from his own choices? I fear we will never know the answer. Good job, Wayne.

  22. GSD says:

Apparently the vaunted McCain straight talk has a Bush exclusion clause.

  23. Leftside Annie says:

    Bush = Kampaign Kryptonite! ;o)

  24. Wayne A. Schneider says:

They must think we’re all infants at that stage of development where if they can’t see your face, you don’t exist. Somehow, Bush and McCain got it into their heads that if there is no video of them together, then they were never together.

I am sure that they will do everything in their power (both inside and outside the law) to make sure we can’t figure out who attended this fundraiser. And if you know anyone who will be attending this shindig (because I’m pretty sure none of them read this award-winning blog), make sure the rest of the world knows they were there.

  25. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    Thanks, Stratrat. :)

“its daily e-mail update to reporters this morning, McCain’s campaign made no mention that the leader of the free world would be appearing with the candidate tonight.”

And yet McCain has every intention of continuing in Bush’s footsteps if elected. It’s easy to understand why nobody wants to be connected to Bush given that he’s the worst president ever but a smarter person would ask why.

    Similarity Test:

Compare and Contrast the “Harry Potter” novels with the McCain campaign when it comes to “He who must not be named”

  28. enough says:

Just this once, cheers to the White House for honesty.

I’ll bet McSame really appreciates that confirmation. NOT!

I just had to !LOL! while reading this line: “leader of the free world” … NOT! GWBonehead is not the leader of freedom by any stretch of the imagination.

Fascist America, in 10 easy steps
    by Naomi Wolf
    The Guardian,
    Tuesday April 24 2007

From Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, argues Naomi Wolf, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all

Because Americans like me were born in freedom, we have a hard time even considering that it is possible for us to become as unfree – domestically – as many other nations. Because we no longer learn much about our rights or our system of government – the task of being aware of the constitution has been outsourced from citizens’ ownership to being the domain of professionals such as lawyers and professors – we scarcely recognise the checks and balances that the founders put in place, even as they are being systematically dismantled. Because we don’t learn much about European history, the setting up of a department of “homeland” security – remember who else was keen on the word “homeland” – didn’t raise the alarm bells it might have.

It is my argument that, beneath our very noses, George Bush and his administration are using time-tested tactics to close down an open society. It is time for us to be willing to think the unthinkable – as the author and political journalist Joe Conason, has put it, that it can happen here. And that we are further along than we realise.

Conason eloquently warned of the danger of American authoritarianism. I am arguing that we need also to look at the lessons of European and other kinds of fascism to understand the potential seriousness of the events we see unfolding in the US.

the more mcsame avoids bush the more they get tied together.
