The real question is whether the RNC/John McCain decided they couldn't afford to openly add another lobbyist to the mix or if Griffin couldn't afford a conspicuous connection with the RNC/John McCain. Such a thing could be bad for Timmy's business especially if McCain loses.

Oh, misshussienmolly, you do so charm me when your naiveté shows through.
The very thought that the RNC would hesitate to work with someone because of some “taint” of “corruption”…
__________________________________________

Oh, hardy har. Even I -- with all my "naiveté" -- understand that the RNC has absolutely no problem working with anyone with any taint of corruption. But they sure won't put him in the front of the store.

Does anybody really think that Bush as president and Cheney as veep was because Bush was the one with the leadership skills? Even though the Republicans feel comfortable working with crooks, they know the value of packaging a stinking pile of excrement in such a way that it will sell. Which is why I said that Griffin, like Rove, will most likely work below the radar (or in the back room -- pick the metaphor you like best).

But I'm glad you think I'm charming... ;-)

Translation: "I recognize that the RNC is a submarine stuck in the Marianas Trench and want to maintain some degree of plausible deniability in case I ever want to get another paying job in electoral politics so i won't admit to any involvement in this electoral cycle."

C'mon folks, isn't this the real motivation for Fake News refusing to identify Rove as a McCain consultant? Even FoxBots know what side he is on. Rove just doesn't want to admit he worked for a loser (well, other than Bush but that's a different kind of loser).

This all sounds much like the "leaving to spend more time with my family" line that nobody ever believes. I suspect that the truth lies more with the fact that Griffin is so tainted with corruption and Rovian stink that the RNC would be crazy to have anything to do with him. After all, McCain's lobbyist buddies are already proving to be a PR nightmare.

Do I believe that Griffin will help McCain below the radar, like Rove is? Duh.

Isn't taking a position with the RNC right now somewhat akin to signing on as an energy trader with Enron in August of 2001?

The only political entity deeper in debt than the RNC is the Hillary campaign.

Where's Ken Mehlman when you need him? Oh, that's right, he left with Jeff Gannon to get married with Ted Haggard doing the officiating.

Tim Griffin should already be in jail. In other words, he'd fit right back in with the RNC...

All the familiar denials.

"Not talked to anyone in the GOP's leadership structure"... does that mean he could have talked to the RNC, then?

"had not talked to anyone about....reprising his old roll" does that mean he could have talked to someone about reprising his old role? (this is a typo in the original article)

Timmy, Timmy, Timmy.

What has he been up to while at Mercury and Griffin Public Affairs. Well, he established a front group called "Arkansas Coalition of Concerned Taxpayers."

And he joined old phone jammer friend Terry Nelson at Mercury.

He also probably didn't want his reputation to tarnish McCain. Better to work from behind the scenes, right Karl?

Griffin's denials of course mean that he IS returning to work at the RNC, but somehow had to deny it to avoid a redeployment or something.

Griffin's Army reserve, yet has only had to serve one tour. What makes him special?

On Monday, Griffin said he was not going back to the RNC, and that he had not talked to anyone in the GOP’s leadership structure or with the McCain campaign about reprising his old roll,”

And we all know how every GOP member is so honest and forthright and a man or woman of his or her word..........
