Last night, ThinkProgress accepted the journalism award for Best Blog from the Sidney Hillman Foundation. The event was held at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in Manhattan, where we were honored to share the stage with the other award recipients, including PBS’s Bill Moyers, Los Angeles Times photojournalist Luis Sinco, and the Writers Guild of America.
The New Yorker’s Hendrik Hertzberg presented ThinkProgress’s Faiz Shakir and Amanda Terkel with the award, who received it on behalf of the team. Afterward, Faiz gave a speech about the importance of blogs in challenging those in power. Watch it (two parts):
Below are a few photos from the evening:

May 28th, 2008 at 10:41 pmCongratulations to the Think Progress crew. I visit your site every day. You are the best blog in America (with C&L and infowars). Keep up the great work. Americans like me depend upon you for the real and straight news.
It’s hard to believe, but Think Progress have more credibility than all the mass media put together.
Praise the internet! We must never let the government or Zionists try to censor the internet. To free men and women everywhere, it has become as important to our survival as anything.
You deserve a good drunk for your great work.
May 29th, 2008 at 1:30 amIt’s nice. I never cease to be amazed at the nonsensical subtext that US chatter attaches to the word “liberal.” I don’t find it a useful word : I never did. But to smear people as “liberals” in fact is a way of smearing them as “reds under the bed” – nothing less. Since it’s encrypted, anyone stupid enough to try to defend themselves as a “left liberal” and claim equal legitimacy with “right liberals” is logically correct but still merely digging their own grave deeper. I traced the mythology of this back to a great quote I found on wikipedia last week:
In 1955, Dean Russell wrote an article pondering what to call those, such as himself, who subscribed to the classical liberal philosophy of individualism and self-responsibility. He said
Many of us call ourselves “liberals,” and it is true that the word “liberal” once described persons who respected the individual and feared the use of mass compulsions. But the leftists have now corrupted that once-proud term to identify themselves and their program of more government ownership of property and more controls over persons. As a result, those of us who believe in freedom must explain that when we call ourselves liberals, we mean liberals in the uncorrupted classical sense. At best, this is awkward, subject to misunderstanding. Here is a suggestion : let those of us who love liberty trademark and reserve for our own use the good and honorable word “libertarian.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarianism
– my own response to this is to say that these “libertarians” should henceforth be referred to as “Lockean conservatives,” which would distinguish them from the more pro-government sort of conservative, which I shall call the “Burkean conservative.” Thus, we free up the field from all the stray references to “liberalism,” once and for all, and forget the word, which no longer has any useful meaning at all.
May 29th, 2008 at 1:36 amKeep up the good work TP staff !!

May 29th, 2008 at 4:14 amMy compliments to the Think Progress Staff, plus the regular commenters that make this site my favorite to read “At Work”. Also Wordpress for the ease with which I navigate this site (and The Zoo) on my mobile phone. As Young Mr. Grace would say, “You’ve all done very well!”
