So what hurts military families more? The truth or lies, endless wars, suicides, rockets, a terribly run VA, sub-standard body armor, Shhhhhhh! PTSD, stop-loss, Halliburton, PTSD, bombs, traumatic brain injury, extended tours of duty, amputations, reduced basic training, IEDs, DynCorp, under-armored vehicles, crappy benefits, lowered recruiting standards, EFPs, back door draft, obsolete equipment, bullets...

That's right! The idiot has hurt many military families! The idiot started the criminal war! McClellan's book exposes the truth for all to see. All of you neocons that support the idiot can go to hell! It was the IDIOT who misled this country on false pretenses to invade Iraq! The criminal idiot behind everything : 9/11, the war, the current economic crisis, etc. Every morning I pray for his death!

The pain and agony should be directed at GWB not Scott for reporting it. Bush caused the war by misleading the nation and cherry picking the intel to drive the agenda. This is yet another right wing talking point from the Karl Rove 101 playbook. "Say their hurting the troops". Been there done that countless times.

Getting soldiers killed and wounded doesn't hurt the troops or their families. Killing thousands upon thousands of Iraqis doesn't cause any upset. But saying maybe the war's not vitally necessary, THAT hurts the troops.

These cowards spit venom and bile and then hide behind volunteer soldiers rather than defend their own cause. They are scum.

I think most of the troops know they're stuck in the Iraq shithole. The reasons why they're stuck there shouldn't be concealed from them.
They're coming home soon, and then we have to deal with their medical and psychological needs for decades.
For a pack of lies. Period.

The real harm has been done by the destructive demagogues who deceived us, dragged us into an immoral "preemptive" war for political and personal gain, and who broke law after law and perverted the course of justice in America. McClellan is not without blame, himself, but Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, Rice, and, in the end, even Colin Powell, must bear the heavy burden which they have inflicted on the American people and especially on those who serve in our armed forces and their families!

But does mr bartlett have any idea who put these vunerable families in harms way in the first place?

The lies have just spun these creeps out of control too many times. It's time for their crash and burn.

the LA Times, as usual, is a lot better than the NYT:

"Now, activists who long have complained that officials looked the other way while the sect practiced “divinely inspired” underage marriage are at a loss. “Who’s going to ever touch them again?” asked Flora Jessop, who fled a polygamous marriage as a teen. She was on the verge of tears Friday morning. “For something like this to happen, it kind of makes you wonder why you fight for stuff in this country.”"

I've been following the 'Yearning for Zion' case in the US papers, and I noticed a nice example of sentimentalisation and subjectivisation as the closing paragraph of the current NYT story on it - i.e. the paragraph that leaves the final impression in the reader's mind:

"One member of the church, Willie Jessop, a contractor and rancher in Utah who came to Texas after his sister’s children were taken into custody, said hope and anxiety were both running high among the families in about equal measure. “The parents have been on this roller coaster ride now for so long,” Mr. Jessop said. “They’ve been told so many times that they could get their children back: if they go to the shelters they could get their children back, if they submit DNA they could get their children back. There have been so many conditions already, and still they do not have their children back.”"

I provided direct support to our troops for over 35 years, first as an active duty soldier, later as a civilian employee of DoD, mostly overseas, providing library and educational support to active duty troops and their families. When I see one of those silly yellow ribbon decals on an SUV I want to grab the driver by the throat and ask him or her to tell me just exactly what they do to "Support Our Troops."

Just like the neo-cons they're usually all talk and no meaningful action. It's just feel-good BS to take their minds off the fact that they've asked other people to die for something they say they believe in but are unwilling to die for themselves. They're below disgusting.

It will be interesting to see in November just who "the troops" think is hurting them most. So far, I hear a lot of concern that McCain just doesn't get it coming from the ranks.

October surprise? I would put nothing past these conservative vermin.

Sentimentalisation and subjectivisation can be used to decontextualise any political issue - leftists can use the same tactics if they are equally unscrupulous, at least in theory. However, if you have rival viewpoints each sentimentalising and subjectivising an issue, then the viewpoint with the most outlets wins.

Incidentally, "terror" and "terrorism" are already subjectivisations. The "war against terror" is a war against a subjective emotional state, and even thinking about it, let alone making war on it, makes the "terror" worse, this being the nature of emotions.

Sending troops for multiple rotations also hurts military families, something cowards who never served would not understand. Most of the warmongering chickenhawks in this administration and the GOP are cowards who never served.

"Bartlett agrees with right-wing radio host: McClellan’s book hurts military families."

Mr. Bartlett, the truth is hurting all decent and trusting Americans, not just military families.

The right wing thugs in this country are trying to shoot the messenger. There has been nothing but non-spot character assassination of McClellan's since his book came out. All the thugs can do is engage in name-calling, and not address anything specific that McClellan talked about. It is the method of immoral tyrants. They expect blind loyalty more than anything else, as if they are the Lord, when they are really a society of criminals.

Unfortunately for the crackpot right, most Americans will admire and respect McClellan for what he wrote.

Don't let the thugs get you down, Scott. They cannot defeat the truth as hard as they try.

Drop dead, FauxNews, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and whole stinking rotten lot of you.

black is white, white is black ... NO LONGER!

They can say whatever, but the TRUTH Is what is hurting them and making them go haywire. The real question should be addressed to bush the killer before he went to war based on LIES:

“a guy like george w bush ever stopped to think how he would hurt families in this way?”

Q: Do these pants make me look fat?

A: No, it's your fat that makes you look fat.

Q: Will McClellan’s new book cause pain and grief to the troops and their families?

A: No, it's the lies that stampeded us into the Iraq war, that are causing the pain and grief.
