Bush doesn’t plan to read McClellan’s book.

At a closed-door fundraiser for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Wednesday, President Bush “told an intimate audience that he hasn’t read his former spokesman Scott McClellan’s book, and doesn’t plan to, but he is disappointed with the criticisms made by the former White House confidant.” Bush, according to attendees, said that “he will work to forgive McClellan for what he wrote,” but that “McClellan is ‘not the same guy’ who he knew going back to his first presidential run.”

    Bush reads?!?!?!

  10. Bluestocking says:

Puh-leeeeeeze! Bush has been quoted on the record as saying that he doesn’t even read newspapers (a practice which one might be inclined to think would be absolutely essential for any principled world leader, never mind the leader of the world’s foremost superpower) — and he’s also proven time and time again that he has no patience or tolerance for anyone who dares to criticize him or his administration. Knowing this, considering that McClellan’s book is reportedly filled with criticism of the Bush administration, why would anyone with two functioning brain cells to rub together be at all surprised to learn that Bush has no intention of reading it?

  11. Del Capslock says:

All the McClellan attackers are recycling the same tactics they use for anyone who criticizes the administration. No substance, no factual response to specific issues, just ad hominem and snide insinuations about motivations and lack of “loyalty”. The problem is it continues to work exactly for the reason McClellan puts in his book: a compliant and compromised media. An amoral administration can get away with just about anything in this environment.

  12. Zimzone says:

Obama has to amplify McLellan’s message. ‘Propaganda Regime’ should be shouted to the media & from the rooftops.

If guilt by association is the wingnut’s only recourse, let’s use the same tactic on McCain, who voted with Bush’s agenda 100% of the time THIS YEAR.

  13. leftcoast says:

How would Bush know what to forgive? How can he be “disappointed”? What totally disingenuous remarks!
If Bush hasn’t read the book then he clearly is relying on his “advisors” to fashion his reaction; you’d think Bush would have learned his lesson about these so-called advisors.

I cannot wait until Jan 2009 (if we even get that far). Even if McCain wins, the level of snide, self-assured, stomach-turning bravado of this disgusting Administration will be over.

McCain is bad, but he isn’t THIS bad. “I will work to forgive him” SPARE US YOUR FAUX TRANSCENDENCE…I think I may vomit.

  19. impeachcheneythenbush says:

That Bush wouldn’t read McClellan’s book should come as no surprise. However, the part of the article that really caught my eye and REALLY pissed me off, is this:

The president attended two fundraisers and had no public appearances or official business except a brief courtesy visit to LDS Church leaders. His overnight stay in Utah was part of a Western swing that will, in large part, be paid for by taxpayers. The White House does not have the total cost for the trip nor could it provide totals for Bush’s three previous Utah trips.

    But they aren’t cheap.

For example, Air Force One costs roughly $60,000 per hour to fly. The cargo planes that transport the motorcade and helicopters cost another $7,000 each per hour aloft, according to a 2006 report by House Government Reform Committee staff for Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif.

If it is official business, taxpayers pay; for political travel, the national party or candidate covers part of the cost.

Although the Waxman report found that, in the 2002 election, 97 percent of the flight expenses for Bush’s travel was paid by taxpayers.

Here’s a different take on Bush’s refusal to read McClellan’s book..

  21. shoeless says:

And here is the kicker. Bush’s travel money is skimmed from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, just to rub the noses of poor people in it.

  24. misshusseinmolly says:

For most people in this situation, curiosity would lead them to read what was being said about them and it’s curiosity that leads us to learn. But not Bush, he has no interest in learning from his mistakes or even acknowledging them.

  47. nanlichi says:

It is interesting to see that there are still some willing to admit their support for Bush in the face of the truth of the evil of his administration. I have seen radical posts that say that these Bush is My God folks would support him even if he raped a 10 year old boy on the lawn of the White House and I thought that that was a little overboard.

Color me wrong. As evidenced by bandboy, I have to believe those radicals were right.

Thank FSM that there are only a handful of these braindead pukes around.

None of McClellan’s claims are backed up with any facts whatsoever. Another example of journalism severely infected with the sickness called Liberalism. Bush is the subject of the book, why would he read some greedy slug’s off base opinion of what happened in meetings that he wasn’t involved in? Toilet Paper is defiantly doing its readers an injustice by playing see-saw with only one participant.

  55. gus smith says:

So completely Bush- don’t read, have people tell him what to think. Wouldn’t it be funny to pull an April Fools joke on Bush: Tell him some tale and get his public comment to the nonexistent .. Hehehehe!

  56. shoeless says:

Yeah, like someone could tell him to say Saddam was trying to buy yellowcake uranium, and he should sya it in his SOTU address. That would be a real howler!

  57. nanlichi says:

Bush doesn’t just accept what he’s told as the truth, that’s nonsense. He looks in their eyes, gets a gut feeling for their soul and trusts his instincts.

Someone could read to him that Bid Laden intends to strike in America and Bush will totally ignore it.

Don’t need no stinking brain when you have such a finely tuned gut reaction.

  58. The Shadow says:

There aren’t enough pictures for him to understand the book. After all he got through life on his daddy’s reputation, not his smarts. Look at the way he reacted when Tim Russert asked him: Whether it was a war of necessity or of a war of choice? He responded: “Expand on that question” before he could decide that “It was a war of necessity”. That showed the man’s thinking process is about an inch wide and a fraction of an inch deep. He’s basically an airhead man who has difficulty thinking and answering questions on the fly.

  59. Shayne says:

A man who lacks the intellectual curiosity to read a book about himself is unfit to be the POTUS. And a Speaker of the House without the integrity to put impeachment on the table, well she should be shown the door as well.

From your lips to God’s ears. I certainly hope so.

I truly hope that at least some of the people buying Scott’s book aren’t already in the anti-Bush choir — those who are buying the book to be able to say, “see, I told you so”. Since McClellan was a Bushie at the front of the stage for awhile, he probably still has his conservative fans who would buy his book even if it was only a step-by-step guide to nose-picking.

I’m glad that the book is popular, and I’m glad that some people are setting aside their game controllers to pay attention. Now, the next step is to galvanize all this awareness of the propaganda game into action — preferably at the voting booth.

  66. zuch says:
