Like Bush, Cheney’s unpopularity results in less 2008 campaign cash.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal noted that with his approval ratings so low, President Bush’s impact on raising money for Republican candidates has reduced significantly over the last few years. Vice President Cheney’s impact appears to be headed in the same direction, as the Dallas Morning News reports:

Vice President Dick Cheney’s political forays have gotten less frequent. But he gave a pep talk to New York Republicans and helped refill their coffers Thursday. [...]

The Iraq strategy is working “brilliantly,” Mr. Cheney told 800 or so donors in a midtown Manhattan hotel ballroom – a crowd far smaller than 1,200 Rudy Giuliani drew to the same event a year ago. [...]

Thursday’s was Mr. Cheney’s 36th political event since the start of 2007, raising $8.6 million, according to party officials.

In the previous two-year cycle, he did five times as many events, raising more than $40 million.

Cheney’s seems to be getting used to small crowds turning out to his fundraisers. Like Bush, Cheney’s approval ratings are at dismal levels, “which could help explain why he’s stumping less these days.”

Cheney’s seems to be getting used to small crowds turning out to his fundraisers…oh, really? They’re ’secret’ meetings, closed & invitation only, & wingnuts are an endangered species.

Gee, do you think that’s part of the problem? Cheney should be behind bars for life, not regurgitating Rove talking points for money.

    Has anyone else noticed this?
Hitler was #1 in Germany and Goering was his #2. Both were evil.

Bush is the fuhrer-wanna be in the USA, Cheney is his #2. Again, both are evil.

Both Goering and Cheney are fat, evil #2 men/

    At that dinner last night:
At the New York State Republican Party dinner last night, delivered to a crowd including Rudy Giuliani and Rep. Peter King, and where Dick Cheney later spoke.

In it, the priest, Monsignor Jim Lisante mockingly asks God to change Obama’s mind and volunteers to replace Rev. Jeremiah Wright as Obama’s pastor.

“One more thing, Lord. Please tell Senator Obama that maybe change is a good thing and maybe he should think about changing his favorite preacher,” he said, to applause.

“I know a lot more of us would be comfortable with his judgment skills if he hadn’t sat for 20 years through those words offered by his preacher of division, bigotry, and – honestly – half truths without a word of objection from Senator until the media brought it up, and now he doesn’t want any part of the guy,” he said.

“I’m willing to be his new preacher.”

Cheney better get used to smaller and smaller crowds… I think he’ll only be allowed one roommate in prison….

But media outlets would pay huge dollars to get Dick Cheney as an official commenter on their network. I hope people hiss at the screen should his face appears. I’ll never forget fellow UVA students doing that while watching “It’s a Wonderful Life”. They booed and hissed when evil Mr. Potter came on screen. Bush & Cheney deserve likewise as they’ve ruined many a Christmas.

I dislike what Cheney has done to our country but isn’t 8.6 million still a lot of money raised in one evening? I don’t get the intent of the story.
Catholic priests are hypocrites and just as evil as the administration. I should know, I was abused by one!

  7. Sachem says:

Dick should have unfettered access to those who wish to contribute to his legal defense fund. By any available interpretation of events and the facts around them, he should have been removed from office and indicted on a litany of charges long ago.

May the grim reaper devour his soul as it is unfit for recycling. And if that doesn’t work, we can use the silver bullet and a wooden stake.

Thanks for that, leftcoast. This quote particularly struck me as disingenuous:

“I know a lot more of us would be comfortable with his judgment skills if he hadn’t sat for 20 years through those words offered by his preacher

In fact, the only way they would be “more comfortable with his judgment skills” is if he were a Republican. If there were an “R” next to his name, Obama’s preacher would be a non-issue, like Hagee is for them.

  9. A Patriot Acting says:

This guy Lisante must be a phony catholic priest. If Cheney ever shook hands with a true man of the cloth, his right hand would no doubt spontaneously burst into flame! I truly can’t wait for January ‘09 when Lucifer opens up a crack in some undisclosed location (probably blurred on Google Earth) and reclaims his favorite son. If there is anyone in modern times who truly deserves an eternity of being tortured it is this sorry excuse for a human being. Never have I seen a greedier self-serving loathsome bottom feeder in such a position of power in this great Country. May justice some day come down upon him with the same fury that he has wrought upon this unsuspecting Nation.

  10. cavjam says:

800 donors in midtown. Hmmm. How many were BearStearns CEOs expressing gratitude for the Fed’s excusing their stupidity? And how many of the rest were CEOs of future Bears Stearns?

  11. Buckie Boy says:

800 satan worshipers in one room, interesting.

  12. MCMetal says:

Let Dickhead Cheney go trolling for dollars on some reservations ; perhaps they have some extra Indian trinkets , beads and blankets they could spare and donate………

Better yet, fly him over to Iraq so he can panhandle in the Baghdad street markets.

    CHENEY HAS A SOUL!?!?!?!?!

    Now that’s real news Sachem.

  15. stateofthedivision says:

Better watch out with that Bear Stearns mention. JP Morgan Chase, Bear’s new owner, just hired an ex-Clinton staffer as VP for Global Governmental Affairs. The private equity boys have added lots of blue talent in anticipation of the fall elections. There’s still influence to buy and sell…

Yeah, but at least Goering didn’t make a profit from the war.

  17. Zimzone says:

And Cheney’s approval rating, as of this morning = -11%

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of war criminals.

“The Iraq strategy is working “brilliantly,” Mr. Cheney told 800 or so donors in a midtown Manhattan hotel ballroom, “have you seen Exxon’s profit margins?”

Cheney was quickly tackled by Secret Service agents and dragged off the stage…….

And that poll was taken at Cheney’s New York Republican fundraiser.

  21. octamethyl says:

Why does everyone hate Cheney? He reminds me of the loveable Penguin vilain from the old, campy Batman TV show from the 70’s. Sounds like him too.

  22. Jess Wonderin says:

The Iraq strategy is working “brilliantly,” . . . why would anyone give donations to someone so obviously mentally deficient in dealing with facts?

What evidence have you ever seen that Republicans place any value in “facts”?

  24. shoeless says:

Jess, because they can get a million dollar tax cut for a donation of only $2500.

Kinda puts a new slant on the phrase: Cheney shot his buddy in the face :)~
