Does McCain have ‘a lack of appreciation’ for Gulf Coast reconstruction?

John McCain has asserted that, because Barack Obama has not visited Iraq since 2006, it demonstrates a “lack of appreciation of the importance of this issue.” The Huffington Post notes that, by analogy, McCain must have a lack of appreciation for the importance of post-Katrina reconstruction. “Up until traveling there one month ago, [McCain] had made just one public tour of New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina touched down in August 2005.” Obama has visited five times over the same period.

Do people really think that you have to go to Iraq and subject yourself to a propaganda show put on by Bushco’s people to exhibit proper “appreciation”? I wish I could say that the American people won’t fall for that crapola, but I fear many of us would.

  2. upside99 says:

This is not even news; Just like Dubya, Johnny Boy only cares about things he can blow up, not have to put back together.

And he won’t get the black votes anyway.

  3. MCMetal says:

Obama need visit Iraq accompanied by a brigade of US troops and several helicopters and a couple of tanks to “appreciate” what ?

How truly ridiculous McStupid’s statements are about what is occurring there ?

I’m pretty certain he already recognizes the inherent idiocy in McJowels’ off-the-wall quotes……….

  4. Nevar says:

There are far too many American’s in Iraq already, who needs another entourage?
The Iraqi’s certainly haven’t asked for any more…

  5. gummitch says:

New Orleans is old news, so the media will ignore this entirely. They love McCain and his grilled meat, so we’ll be hearing about the “challenge” and how Obama cut and ran rather than travel to Iraq with the RealMen™.

  6. sectionop92 says:

McCain doesn’t go where the people can harm him. So if he goes to New Orleans’ poorest areas, having military protection to protect him from U.S. citizens might not look that good.

  7. katy says:

i remember last sunday, watching the sunday shows – forget which one, but when i first heard lindsey graham spout the “dare” to obama about going to iraq i knew i was hearing the next meme…

pretty sure that’s when it started, the test drive…

my next thought was, “well that would take care of that pesky
    opposition, now wouldn’t it?”…

    don’t fall for the DARE, barack… this ain’t gradeschool…

    i know you know…

  8. MCMetal says:

When in the hell has Lindsey Graham ever been accused of being a real man ?

GOP conventions during their big circle jerk with him in the middle ?

  9. shoeless says:

Meanwhile, John Edwards is still going to New Orleans to help rebuild people’s houses.

Too bad for McCain that most of the Louisiana National Guard is in Iraq.

  11. CitiDC says:

    Google “Bush McCain cake.”

You’d think that McCain would remember that fateful day.

Not only was McCain hanging out with Bush on August 29 in Arizona (the day New Orleans was being destroyed) — but it was also his 69th birthday!

Mayhaps McIIIrd just doesn’t give a shit about NOLA.

  13. Jess Wonderin says:

McSame spouts his “experience” and travels to Iraq like it MEANS shit . . . funny thing with all these years of “experience” and several shopping trips to Baghdad, he STILL does NOT know the players, the issues, and marches in lock step with Decider Guy into Ignorance Pass without any ammo . . . .

    “duh, which way did I go . . ???”

He can always go around and shake hands with the children and paid citizens with the Blackwater thugs blanketing the area. I’m pretty sure then when one of those mercs gets trigger happy, McCain would take everyone in a five block radius to a top notch BBQ place and hand out impounded FEMA trailers and stores of field rations like candy. McCain must put some sort of unknown pharmacological drug in the BBQ sauce to make everyone so happy and delightful.

  15. LumpyDunky says:

LOL, look at McCain pointing fingers! who does he really think he is. Not that I am an Obama fan ( I am not by any means) to see MCain of all people pointing fingers. Boy you can tell November draws closer with desperation.

  16. Marie says:

Obviously the numerous trips to Iraq by McCain have not enhanced his understanding the the situation has it?

As an American, I find it absolutely unacceptable and incomprehensible that we lost a city two years ago and the federal government has done next to nothing in restoration.

  17. Badger says:

The Chinese Governments’ response to the recent Earthquake puts the American Government’s feeble, formaldehyde ridden Katrina response to Shame. The Chinese military was immediately mobilized to provide aid…The Chinese President immediately went to assess the situation personally.

Bush’s response to Katrina looks competent only when compared to Burma.

  18. RUCerious says:

    DumpyLunky, nice spam.

  19. Exit Stage Left says:

As noted by Naomi Klein in “The Shock Doctrine”, after Katrina the powers that be capitalized on the shock and began the implementation of their plan or privatization. Most of the NOLA schools are now so-called charter school (neocon-speak for privatized), and any real estate that fascist corporations desired has not been rebuilt for the residents who lived there. Very similar to the response to the tsunami in Sri Lanka. I believe they have a plan in the vault for responding to any conceivable natural/unnatural disaster that allows fascist corporations to take what they want afterwards.

  20. Rowan Berkeley says:

um … some say, they can even induce ‘unnatural disasters,’ using HAARP. I don’t know, me – I’m not an atmospheric physicist.

Just a reminder to all of you out there.
There were a great number of non-black people that lost thier lives, homes and loved ones in New Orleans.

A visit to New Orleans is not only for the “black vote”.

  22. k says:

Does anyone else find it at all creepy that McBush keeps insisting that Obama travels to a war zone?
