AP reports:

A bipartisan group of 54 former state attorneys general from across the country has filed a federal appeals brief supporting former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman’s bid to overturn his criminal conviction.

Saying the prosecution and sentencing of Siegelman “raised serious First Amendment concerns,” the brief asks the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn Siegelman’s conviction.

    Whoa! This is really impressive!

It is about time… what an incredible case of injustice.

And this will all lead to KKKarl’s front door.

Robert Luskin, Rove’s attorney, will have no comment.

  6. LumpyDunky says:

Oh I bet they have. Thats the wonderful thing about this country and its Kangaroo Court system. Its all about WHO you know and HOW much money you have in the bank. If you have a lot of both, you own them.

Beyond and after overturning the conviction, the rocks need to overturned and the snakes underneath hunted down!

  8. JMOHR says:

I first could not figure out how the 1st Amendment figured in the Siegleman case. Obviously, there was not prior restraint on speech or freedom of religion. Then it struck me, it involved the right of association created by the combination of the right to petition and freedom of expression.

We have not seen this issue arise since the dark days of McCarthy and the attempt to criminalize the Communist Party. Most recent cases have to do with ballot access and other less profound issues. The bi-partisan interest goes to the heart of our political system. An attempt by one political party to destroy another by using selective prosecution or outright trumped up criminal cases to intimidate party members from running for public office.

OT: Oh boy! More food riots. Yippee!

I fully expect the suppression of food and/or energy riots will become the ultimate pretext for shutting down civil liberties.

  10. Nevar says:

Wall Street investors aren’t likely to experience a sudden crash, they will loose their assets to a slow and steady draining of their stock’s value.
The corporations will claim poverty due to the high cost of energy, while the energy companies slowly gain control of all resources and assets. The manipulators and power brokers of energy will emerge at the top of the heap, and through their buttons, switches, and “security contractors” (read: mercenaries and thugs)will control food, energy, and the populace.

Remember the Schwartzenegger movie “The Running Man”?
Watch it if you can, it would be funny today, if it wasn’t so close to reality

  12. celtic cynic says:

I wonder what the tally of current state attorneys would reveal on support of Don Siegelman. Perhaps they’re in fear of their jobs?? Gonzalez has really done a number on the justice department.

  13. Helen Hussein Rainier says:

I certainly hope that some of those AGs are those who were fired by the Bushies for daring to be politically independent, read that as non-partisan.

  14. ralph the wonder llama says:

I don’t think the Bush Justice Department has any say in the employment of state Attorneys General.

  15. moondancer says:

The same 54 supported his release on bond. Can you say indictment for shitheel Karl Rove? I knew you could.

MuKasey is a disgrace! WTF does he have to say about this?

oh to dream….my insides get giddy at the thought of a rove perp walk…please, oh please, let it happen…

  18. dbadass says:

bandwagon makes funny sexist comments. I would have said the bickered like people that bicker myself. Adding the girl part sort of negates the point you are trying to make. I often think republicans act like stupid meathead boys

  19. Saint Augustine says:

Helen Hussein Rainier FYI: The Attorney General (AG) is the top Federal law enforcement officer. Under him are 93 U.S. Attorneys (USA’s) are covering each state, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

State Attorneys (SA’s) are elected or appointed in states to represent their states in criminal prosecutions.

What is up with “Toilet Paper”? Do you think that helps make your point or is your point that in general you just have this anger thing focused at a website that you feel you need to act on?

I just think it is respectful to address people and things by their proper names

  23. dbadass says:

But, I see you dislike it so that would be another reason.

Doesn’t that make you my B word that gets moderated here? It seems I have control over your actions.

  24. dbadass says:

    Sort of emasculating eh?

  25. Nevar says:

I guess bandwagon was able to catch up with and climb back on the wagon it fell off of.

P.S., bandwagon…. That moving chain, and the spinning paddles on the back end? They’re not musical instruments…..

  26. pete says:

As has been pointed out many times, as an unaffiliated progressive blog which reports on political issues TP has followed a narrow editorial policy towards anything which may conflict with their independence re the Democratic nomination process or cause a conflict of interest. It’s an ethical decision that I understand and respect, even if I don’t wholly support it.

And it does seem like there are some bugs in the moderation software. I’ve had a couple wholly innocuous comments get held.

Though, of course, the idiotic ravings from our pet troll don’t detract from the fact that yet another crack has revealed itself in the neocon facade. The rot has well and truly set in.

The worst of the Bushbots will, unfortunately, get increasingly dangerous as all they worship drags itself down. As long as they save the real savagery for each other, as they position for “lenient consideration from the Court”, I will enjoy the show.

  27. Nevar says:

    Right on, pete.

I’m now assuming responsibility for my postings, practicing self moderation. I erroneously assumed I was to wait for TP to moderate my comment, when nothing as such was implied. It merely states that the comment itself is awaiting moderation. Who better to moderate it than myself!
After careful anolysis, I have found certain combinations of letters which throw me into the virtual gutter.
I’ll be back in a bit, the neighbor’s dog had 11 puppies, and wants some help moving them out to the barn. I just wish it wasn’t such a batch.

  28. dbadass says:

Anoles are sort of cool but my interest in herpetology is transient. Actually it is more situation dependent.

I was wondering does anyone wanna see how many times we can make ass comments without actually saying the banned A word? I can see it as being sort of amusing ala the meow deal in Supertroopers

  29. Nevar says:

One of the crew left a pair of boots in the dryer too long and rectum.

  30. Nevar says:

“…ala the meow deal in Supertroopers”

    Good ana loggy.

  31. had enough says:

    OT
48 more delegates and Obama is the nominee.
48 delegates up for grabs Tues. and I am predicting Obama will get 32 of those.

How much longer will Hillary hang in and why?

  32. Paul W says:

Overturning Siegelman’s conviction represents a positive step toward de-politicizing the Justice Department. If Rove gets taken down in the process as some have suggested, that’s icing on the cake.

  33. Nevar says:

Hillary is now claiming that on the basis of her win in Puerto Rico, she has the majority of the popular vote.
She is counting votes that were cast last winter. A lot of very nasty water has gone under her keel since then, and i dare say there is a significant number of those voters who would not cast their ballots for her come November out of sheer disgust for her behavior.

  34. dbadass says:

I think I might need to wonder to the top of “a knoll” to get to the “bottom” of all of this

  35. Nevar says:

    Beware of crevasses.

  36. dbadass says:

I suppose I should wander while I wonder

  37. had enough says:

Karel, talk show host, a Hillary supporter is having a hissy fit on KGO.

He is now insisting Hillary get the VP.

Personally, I feel she has used the A word too much… 4 times.

  38. dbadass says:

My current assessment would have to give the use of crevasses the knob and condemn my earlier attempts to the can

  39. dbadass says:

nod not knob. Damn that is some weird Sparticus/Top Gun crap

  40. RUCerious says:

had enough, it’s going to be an interesting finish. If Obama wants to keep his enemies closes, ala Lincoln, he’d offer her the VP slot just to see what she’d do.
Then either lock her up in Cheney’s man sized safe for four years if she keeps sniping, or give her some real work if she can get it done without undercutting him.
    If she’d take it…

  41. Nevar says:

He is now insisting Hillary get the VP.

Personally, I feel she has used the A word too much… 4 times.

Maybe this is the magic concoction TP fears, that Hillary will be construed as an an all batch.

  42. Nevar says:

Made sense to me, dbadass, at least as much sense ass anything else we’ve been typing….

  43. Nevar says:

Perhaps Hillary thinks she can do the Dick Cheney routine as VP, and run the show from behind the curtain.
    Two errors there…
One, Obama is not an idiotic buffoon like Georgie, and two, Hillary is a grandstander and needs a lot of attention. She would never be able to stay in the background..

  44. Saint Augustine says:

dbadass did you know that Sparticus was known to be very happy because he was (a) gladiator.

And staying with the Roman theme, the reason the Roman Empire was not financially successful is because the lions ate all the prophets.

  45. dbadass says:

This is cool. I just tried to us ban*lity as well as an*lity and both got jacked. Still I can say say Ass and whore

  46. dbadass says:

    d-bag didn’t work

  47. Nevar says:

  48. Nevar says:

What’s really fun, is that TP will allow you to report yourself for abuse, complete with commentary.
We can’t recomnend ourselves, yet we can slap our own wrists….

  49. dbadass says:

I usually reserve this for special occasions but how does “Dicktard” fly

  50. dbadass says:

I can dig that. Who doesn’t enjoy a little abuse. A little ass slapping seems okay but steer clear of anything which is outright a knoll.

  51. dbadass says:

    Cool! Dicktard flies!!!

  52. Nevar says:

It just occurred to me that I’ve not heard any conjecture on who Hillary would pick as a running mate should she get that far…
Not that I’d want to run anywhere with her (much less anything else), who would?

  53. RUCerious says:

    Nevar, Harold Ickes, ya bet?

  54. RUCerious says:

Nevar, just make sure there’s no cuffs involved in slapping oneself on the wrists…

  55. Nevar says:

Britney Spears will be tapped for director of health and human services.

  56. Nevar says:

Bill can be the Ambassador to the Moon.

  57. dbadass says:

Badunkadunk is just a neat word that deserves greater usage

  58. dbadass says:

Steatopygia is a quality scrabble word as well

  59. Nevar says:

I had to look that one up. One might be wise to assess the other scrabble players before using it.
Unless winning at any cost is all the matters.

  60. RUCerious says:

    dbadass, slow night?

  61. RUCerious says:

nevar, make sure that if you’re losing and have no chance to win, you pull the old spill the drink over the board and then wipe all the pieces off quick, before the board gets stained!!

  62. RUCerious says:

I’m sure Ed Rendell will make a great Secretary of Suet.

  63. Nevar says:

Martha Stewart for Secretary of the Interior

  64. RUCerious says:

Does she get to decorate the interior?

  65. Nevar says:

I’m making a personal effort to bring the adjective cattywumpus back in to more prominent use.

(See what I mean? Even the spell checker here at TP doesn’t recognize it!)

  66. Nevar says:

Of course, they can’t even spell grey correctly either….

  67. Nevar says:

Well, I’m rapidly ascending into nonsense, guess I’ll flagellate all my abusive posts, and call it a day.

  68. RUCerious says:

Well, then, until the morrow, adieu!

  69. Chocolate Jesus says:

Our brilliant legal mind Kilotwat need to explain to those silly attorney generals that karl rove didnt make Siegelman take bribes..
