GM may discontinue making Hummers.

GM may discontinue making Hummers.»

Today, General Motors announced that it will be closing four truck and SUV plants in North America and may discontinue its Hummer line, citing the slumping sales of large vehicles brought on by high oil prices. Sales of the Hummer were down 61 percent last month, and May was also the first month in which cars outsold the Ford F-series truck since 1992. In place of the Hummer, GM CEO Rick Wagoner announced that the GM board has approved production of a new small automobile and a new electric car. As CBS reported, Wagoner “said the change in the U.S. market to smaller vehicles likely is permanent.”

Oddly enough, I rarely see them except in urban areas, once in a great while at a developed campground. (electricity, showers, party store, etc.)

Wow. Who knew? This whole thing just came screaming out of left field and who could possibly have seen it coming? Hybrids are for pussies. Americans want megarides and always will. America is a butt kicking, nation conquering country and countries like that don’t drive girlie cars with little engines and a trunk full of batteries.

American Automotive CEO’s and upper management are monstrously overpaid suits in bubbles. They haven’t had a clue and they’ve gone out of their way to avoid getting one. It’s taken driving by their own car lots packed with ridiculous vehicles that are sitting like like shiny, stupid, 3 ton turds for them to shake off their privileged stupor and acknowledge what’s been sitting on their noses for years. They’ve been as oblivious, incompetent and self absorbed as their idiot CEO buddy who’s squatting in the White House. Screw ‘em all. They don’t deserve a penny of their obese compensation.

Maybe this snuck up on them while they were so engrossed with American Idol.

On a related note after watching a few minutes of the tv coverage of the primary tonight all I can say is F*** the Corporate Media.
These are the same people that brought us the Iraq war by acting as a propaganda tool and won’t acknowledge peak oil for another 6 months to 1 year.
Anyone who trusts them and uses them as a sole source of information is delusional.

  30. Bluestocking Says:

I still say that in my opinion, the Hummer has to be the 21st Century equivalent of the expensive foreign sportscar — the kind driven by someone who revs the engine while stopped at a red light in order to say “look at meeeee, I have a sportscar!” It strikes me as the ultimate “don’t-f***-with-me” vehicle, the sign of a driver who’s trying to compensate for certain (*ahem*) shortcomings.

I remember seeing a positively huge yellow Hummer parked (with the motor running, if memory serves) on the corner of my block in my previous neighborhood a few years ago while the driver ran into the deli to get something. I couldn’t help thinking to myself “Gee, fella…that thing BIG enough for ya?”

No, that’s what Obama had the chance to do with FL&MI - and instead of being gracious, and letting the voters rights matter than his desires - he blew it. That’s what took me out, and LOTS (MILLIONS) of voters like me! It was short sighted, arrogant, unacceptable - and if he doesn’t value Democratic voters - SD tonight showed him what he can expect from us USELESS Hillary supporters! Good luck without us!

By the way, you PERSONALLY have been part of the anti-hillary slash and burn DIRTY SMEAR campaign yourself! Take some PERSONAL responsibility when he loses in the fall - because HATEMONGERS like yourself that were too busy hating their fellow democrats to be civil and reasonable will be a big reason why he loses if he does. The BLOGOSPHERE and the media has been biased, sexist and slanderous! You’re a shameful disgrace to democrats and democracy - and I want no part of you or your candidate! That would be STOLE. She won the popular vote, but his cynical gaming of ‘weighted’ districts and caucus states produced a disproportionate delegate count. He gamed the system, and thwarted the popular will of the people - welcome to GeorgeIII!

  44. MOONBAT Says:

Before the gas crisis of the ’70’s the car makers were ignoring the small imports. Then they panicked. I bought a Dodge Omni, which had a modified VW Rabbit engine. They didn’t even have a 4 cylinder engine to use in it. Then still ignored the small import market. Japan is now eating their lunch. Not only do the American car makers produce crappy cars, they continue to be stupid. I have bought 2 Honda Civics and have had almost no problems and I am getting 34 MPG with my ‘07 on the highway. Call me antiAmerican but I will never buy an American car again. But then with all of the American plants the Japanese are opening, how do you know what is what. There was an announcement today that the Japenese are opening 5 more plants in the USA.

RHF, I’ve heard this and then found out that the Hillary count of the popular vote is very suspect. They don’t include states that Obama won and they do include Mich. and Fla. Besides, the Democratic nomination goes by delegates, no if ands or buts.

Unless you didn’t mean that you believe Hillary won the popular vote. In that case, nevermind.

Also, what right do you, or the rest of the f**k*ng DNC have to disenfranchise voters - especially in Florida were the REPUBLICANS set the date in the first place? That’s absurdly undemocratic! America is on the verge of the great epiphany. You can’t have heavy, high performance, cars and get reasonable mileage. Once we get used to the lower curb weights, and slower acceleration, we’ll appreciate the 70mpg wonders without heavy, expensive, batteries.

And those who simply must be fast and loud? There will always be a way to turn fuel into horsepower. But, we might have to live with short radius electrics or pay a $10.00 per gallon “gas hog tax”. So be it. Heck, if you think the Tesla is cool? How about a hybrid with half the battery and a micro-turbine which can burn anything from high octane gas to methanol, bio-diesel, or just about any liquid hydrocarbon with known properties. And they haven’t really even begun on hydrogen fuel. But, even today, it’s no trick to make a small vehicle with good performance and mileage. Those who need larger vehicles will have to learn to live with reduced performance.

Take your own advice, and leave it on Obama’s site, you stupid sh*t. You Obama morons deserve to lose, you fools!

You already have , Hillary backer ; how does it feel to be (correctly)identified as a moronic fu(king loser , shitstain ?

  140. ForTruth Says:

    Scratch that, I prefer experienced.

ForTruth…it was a horseback riding thing, honest! ForTrue! Really!!

I’m having a beer, and enjoyin’ President Obama. Get used to hearin’ it.

Good luck with than, when the millions of us that are pissed off at his handling of MI/FL don’t show up! Or did you miss that Obama couldn’t even win SD, despite a lead going into this weekend. You and the rest of the hopiumheads have NO IDEA how much that destroyed his chances. I’ve never not voted for a Democrat for President - and this time I boycott readily.

You can call me a troll, but unlike the website, you can’t ‘flag’ the voters - and your hateful anti hillary attitudes have destroyed any good will that was possible to reach out to us. Your ‘dear leader’ has little hope of winning in the general election now, and it’s a combo of HIS and YOUR bad judgment. But if it’ll make you feel better, you can blame me, and be psycho like Zooey - but that won’t help Obama, or you…

  145. Zooey Says:

    Heh. Hi, Truth.

You mean like the MAJORITY of Democrats? Probably the same as it felt for me to be called a loser in 2000. Sort of sad, at how pathetic and immoral you are…

  149. Nevar Says:

You may get them, I trust you understand that they are required to remain so for the same eternity you will (or not) enjoy…

You mean the Hillary math MAJORITY , skid mark ……Which means jack shit.

  154. Xisithrus Says:

40 virgins? I have a migraine just thinking of it…=)

  155. Ms_Joanne Says:

    From another blog….

LOL! CNN is projecting that ROMNEY has won Montana, followed by Ron Paul, McCain, and Huckabee.

And they’re projecting Obama as the Democratic winner with 8 delegates, Hillary with four.

Again, like a troll, the troll misses my point. Like a troll, the troll swept into a discussion of GM’s decision to start moving towards the 21st Century. Like a troll, the troll used a brief non committal comment about a current event as an excuse to launch upon a juvenile screed against anyone who hasn’t tacitly supported the troll’s ravings. Like a troll, the troll decided that by introducing more available facts, I was making some sort of conclusion and that conclusion is in some way insulting or unintelligent. Like a troll, the troll presumed that my general comments indicated specific views the troll finds unsavory. Like a troll, the troll presumed that I had taken a position relative to the merits of the troll’s ravings. And, like a troll, the troll never managed to GET THE POINT!

As in every VOTER that VOTED in the PRIMARY - YES…

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/ epolls/ 2008/ president/ democratic_vote_count.html

But that’s OK, I’m sure Hillary’s voters are an insignificant minority that Obama doesn’t need in November… We’re all just skitmarks because we think every vote should count… Yeah, that’s that CHANGE and DIFFERENT TYPE OF POLITICS I keep hearing about… Nicely done…

  162. Nevar Says:

With 40, one would always have 39 excuses…

  163. ForTruth Says:

Yeah, because believing it’s OK to disenfranchise voters because the RULES say it’s OK is really ‘moral’… Sure…

  165. Ms_Joanne Says:
