Inhofe: ‘Everything’ in Gore’s ’science-fiction movie’ has been refuted.»

Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), who has compared people who raise awareness about the climate crisis to the Third Reich, lied about former colleague Al Gore on the Senate floor today. He claimed that “everything” in An Inconvenient Truth — Vice President Gore’s Oscar-winning documentary on climate change — has “been refuted many times” by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC):

Now Al Gore’s done his movie, almost everything that’s been in his movie, in fact everything has been refuted. And interestingly enough the IPCC on sea levels and other things, scare tactics, used in that science-fiction movie have been totally refuted and been refuted many times by the — by the IPCC.

Watch it:

Of course, the IPCC — which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Gore — has done no such thing. Go to the Wonk Room to read more about Sen. Inhofe’s climate falsehoods.

It’s kind of fun when the Right becomes unhinged, isn’t it?

If only they didn’t have real power to affect people’s lives… ah well, come november…

  2. Zooey Says:

    Inhofe is incurably, unforgiveably stupid.

  3. belac Says:

Could he possibly be referring to the television show ‘Futurama’ which is in fact written by a Gore, not Al but his daughter. I just want to view these remarks in the wildest and widest possible context… ’cause if he means ‘Futurama’ this is not only accurate but also hip… if he means ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ it’s not only stupid, it’s scary stupid.

  4. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

This is the same guy who actually took to the floor of the US Senate, displayed a big picture of his entire extended family, and then said he was “proud” (note the word “proud”) that there had not been a single gay person in his entire family’s history (as if he could possibly know such a thing with certainty; if you were a gay person in Inhofe’s family, would you tell him?) How he could be so sure that there is no such thing as global warming befuddles me, especially when he is listening to some of the very people responsible for making the problem worse and the solution that much further away.

  5. McWars Says:

I just watched this on NBC Nightly. Not in the affordable range for most people as of yet, but this is awesome!

Inhofe keeps looking around, is there even anyone else there?

It would be fun if we could see the snickers and the faces hid behind water glasses as he totters on and on saying nothing….

Doesn’t Inhof realize that global warming and tornadoes have a direct cause and affect?

How the hell he ever got elected in the first place is beyond me. Are the people of Oklahoma that stupid to send him to DC?

Nah, That’s the sun burn. See the sun is the real threat here. Luckily belac has a terrific plan coming together on all of this

  13. pete Says:

Stick with your story Jimmy. Every piece of data, since the advent of precise recording, fits very well into one model. In simple terms? The more we burn, the warmer it gets. There is no reasonable dispute of this fact and there hasn’t been any in at least 20 years.

The only people who deny this are those enriched by the energy industry and pseudo religious nutbags who would have been institutionalized at the turn of the last century. I suspect Mr. Inhofe is both.

  14. Xisithrus Says:

Doesnt Inhofe know that GODs watchers are watching his every fib?

  15. ralph the wonder llama Says:

    rogers Says:
Well, maybe not “refuted”, but Martin Parry, who works at the IPCC, and shared the nobel prize with gore, did concede several misleading things about the film, in responce to a judge’s critic of it.

Funny how R-2 demands absolute accuracy in presenting complex scientific theory, yet is content to give Inhofe a pass when he makes a patently false claim, i. e. that “everything (in Gore’s movie) has been refuted.”

R-2, since you obviously did not bother to click on the link that TP generously provided for you, here’s some more complete background on the nine “errors” that a British judge found in the film. (The judge, by the way, found that “Al Gore’s presentation of the causes and likely effects of climate change in the film was broadly accurate”. But your denier friends never get that far, do they?)

Either it’s a sun burn or he got too close to the burn off pipe at a gas well.

  18. pete Says:

BTW, An Inconvenient Truth was a freakin movie designed to inspire thought. It was not intended to be “hard science”. Mr. Gore and the makers of the film were well aware of the level of education of their audience, though I doubt they foresaw the rabidness of the low brow hysteria.

  19. Xisithrus Says:

Parry said ‘it could be’ thats hardly a refutation RrOoGgEeRrSs

That’s a little beyond my depth db. I’m a generalist with atrophied math skills. I must confess to depending on the charts and graphs produced by more agile minds.

Plus I’ve never needed much convincing. I noticed a change in flora and fauna long before the coining of “Global Warming”.

  21. Juan C. Says:

    Huh?

Laughing at the idiocy of these people is not even fun anymore…

  22. dbadass Says:

    Thanks pete:
I would like to include it in my intro unit on scientific processes and thought but want to make sure I have thoroughly vetted it in case I have the spawn of any of the whack jobs present.

  23. pete Says:

You’re welcome db. Sorry I didn’t have any info. If you ever need to draw on 40 years of personal observations of the Upper Mississippi Flyway, plus a few years in other more exotic locales, let me know.

Inhofe: ‘Everything’ in Gore’s ’science-fiction movie’ has been refuted.»

Meanwhile, “Mars Attacks” has been vindicated.
Let’s play a little Slim Whitman and watch Inhofe’s head explode.

  25. republicans hate facts Says:

Since Gore didn’t make a science fiction movie, but a documentary (different genre), Inhofe’s penchant for out of context ignorance rears it’s ugly head again…

As for Roger’s ignorance, well that’s as well known as Inhofe’s!!! ROTFL!!

What’s really funny is that the most ‘inaccurate’ things about the film, are that it underestimates the global warming effect - based on the most recent research… But science was never a strong suit of flat-earthers like Rogers!! :)

  26. Guido the Loving OBGYN Says:

    lol

  27. ForTruth Says:

I think Inhofe is on LSD again.

  28. pete Says:

And just to return the side conversation back to the original topic, my locale has allowed me to directly observe the effects of climate change since I live near the convergence of several zones. In my lifetime, fall migrations and ice-up of lakes are an average of two weeks later. The fall leaf season isn’t later, because the major factor is length of day, but the drop of leaves is more sudden because they haven’t been slowed down by cold weather. Heck, neither I, nor anyone I knew, had seen an opossum before I was twenty. Now they are common enough to have started supplanting the raccoons. No observant person in this part of the world needs much of a math background to see the obvious effects of global warming. But plenty are too stubborn/stupid to take any initiative to change it.

  29. darlineishere Says:

I am so embarrassed when Inhofe opens his mouth, because I am a resident of Oklahoma. We know what he is, what he does, and he makes us, as Oklahoma residents, look stupid. I don’t know how he keeps getting back in office….possibly the elite wealthy who he panders to or just “name recognition” which is common in Oklahoma.

  30. VerbalKint Says:

Inhofe’s last wheel just came off.

  31. Cats r Flyfishn Says:

  32. VerbalKint Says:

BTW, An Inconvenient Truth was a freakin movie designed to inspire thought. It was not intended to be “hard science”.

Good point, Pete, and yet the movie does a decent job with the hard science too.

The deniers are pathetic. They can’t refute the science, so they fixate on one person who made one movie, because they need to topple a villian. Even if Gore’s accounting is wildly wrong (and it isn’t), it changes nothing about the hard science.

If I lived in Oklahoma I would hide my head in shame. Inhoff and Coburn, now that is a dynamic duo of stupidity and intolerance.

  37. pete Says:

I wasn’t denigrating the science of Gore’s movie, sorry if I wasn’t clear. But, it does help illustrate the hypocrisy of various anti-science factions. It’s especially satisfying to tie them in knots trying to explain why an Inconvenient Truth is junk science, because it wasn’t peer reviewed (though it is well vetted for a documentary), while extolling “Creation Science” despite it’s lack of peer review and the obvious, outright, lies of it’s proponents.

Nope, show me someone who says “mainstream science” like they are drinking sour milk, I’ll show you an idiot. It’s rarely productive to engage them, but, it can be fun to see what kind of ridiculous responses one can elicit.

  38. flavorino Says:

Inhofe sounds like he’s close to the “assisted living home” stage of his life.
If Oklahoma re-elects this dunce it’s a sign that America is going to have trouble competing globally in the 21st century world.

  39. flavorino Says:

It seems to me that one of the things that’s holding America back from moving into the 21st century is dragging all that red state stupidity along with us.

  40. Uosdwis Says:

Good thing it’s not a crime to lie on the floor of the House or Senate…but it SHOULD BE!!!

  41. scytherius Says:

What an amazing ignorant buffoon. I am SO sure he got that from Scientific American or any number of respected science publications . . . who of course say exactly the opposite. Republcans are so stupid it is painful.

  42. Jess Wonderin Says:

Inhofe has a long time record of complete stupidity and blatant ignorance as his term continues to grind through . . . seems Oklahoma is in a tight competition with Texas to produce the the worst example of stereotypical “Southern Ignorance Goes to Washington” . . . .

Gore and his Man-Bear-Pig. The politicians on board with this scam must be simply out of their minds.
For one thing, there’s plenty of oil and NG, we just need to drill for it and refine it. Also expand nuclear, wind, hydro, solar and hemp fuel.

Can’t anybody talk some sense into McCain, Bush and Obama about how temperatures rise first, and THEN carbon-dioxide levels rise.
Carbon-dioxide doesn’t cause warming, sun activity does, warming causes CO2 levels to rise.

USpace Says: (deny, deny, deny,…bunch of incoherent blathering garbage…, deny, deny, deny…)

  50. Xisithrus Says:

Frankly I dont find any of absurds absurd statements to be absurd.

A humans breath is not poison to another human,it simply lacks oxygen, yet a person can breath life into another human if they hyperventilate.

One misguided wealthy child of famous parents can lead the world into vast wars which would harm the world in ways a jet engine never could. That it happens time and again is absurd.

God of the universe would have no use of worked up material bodies as its the calm, honest soul that is desirable to maintain that what is.

Global warming is technology without wisdom and though mankind has been warned the problems wisdomless intelligence will bring.

  51. Max-1 Says:

How becoming of a Senator to take the floor and outright LIE!

Typical Loyal Christian(R) Inhofe is… Keeping the Feith.

So Oklahoma, what is this man’s redeeming character that you see, because his character is unbecoming of an American citizen. He doesn’t support and defend YOUR Rights, instead moves to usurp your Rights in FAVORS of doing what the hell and saying what ever he chooses.

OKLAHOMA, does Inhofe speak for you?
Because he just knowingly LIED on the Senate floor in Oklahoma’s name.

  53. DanCaveman Says:

    USpace,

I watched your video and, at best, I have to say it was very unconvincing. I didn’t see any scientific evidence.

I hear a lot “It is just false…” but where were the studies. Where was the evidence that the CO2 levels are not higher than normal. Where are the peer reviewed studies - not the “…number of people that I know of…” Interesting that something that says “this is pure propaganda..” does not provide evidence, only testimony from so called experts.

I am not saying it couldn’t be true, but it sure doesn’t pass the smell test. Sounds much more like propaganda than “An Inconvenient Truth”.

WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE, THE SCIENCE, THE PROOF. I am willing to listen.

  54. galmud Says:

    DanCaveman:

There is no evidence, science or proof in the “The Great Global Warming Swindle” so dont bother looking for it

Here’s a good site dealing with most of the halftruths, disinformation and lies in that so called documentary
    http://www.durangobill.com/Swindle_Swindle.html

  55. DanCaveman Says:

    Oh yeah,

USpace, I couldn’t help but notice the criticisms listed in Wikipedia for the Great Global Warming Swindle seem much more severe (and documented), than those in the entry for An Inconvenient Truth.

Besides, all things being equal (and they are not), I would rather error on the side of developing VERY USEFUL renewable energy sources and find out Global Warming was wrong than continue with my head in the sand and destroy the planet — the cost/gain argument seems a little more dire if I choose to believe the half truths presented in “the Swindle”.

Let’s not forget that the security and diplomatic gains of European and Western societies would be much better served with alternative energy.

One more thing - Getting off OIL, Coal, and other fossil fuels is a good idea EVEN IF GLOBAL WARMING WASN’T true. Air Pollution, Water Pollution, scarcity, cost — all reasons in addition to the small problem that we may be destroying the planet.

  56. DanCaveman Says:

    thanks galmud 8-)

Sure, and in the context of Republican ideaology, he was very good at his job, which was to rape the environment and eliminate public works.

His butt must be sore from pulling so many things out of it.

  59. darlineishere Says:

Oh, Gosh, for all you posters who just lambasted all Oklahomans for electing this gas bag Inhofe to go and represent our state, PLEASE, REMEMBER…WE DID NOT ALL VOTE FOR HIM AND WE ARE WORKING TO DEFEAT HIM!

  60. upside99 Says:

And let none of us forget that In-a-huff is one of the biggest beneficiaries of money from Big Oil! (Not that this has any impact on his continued bashing of science on Climate Change.)

  61. ernieson Says:

The remarks by Inhofe are typical of remarks made by him each time he speaks. People should be aghast that a person of his inability to assemble logic is a member of the US Senate. He is like a programmed robotic sci-fi character. Who owns him?
