Furious O’Reilly Defends Bush, Slams McClellan For Meeting With ‘The Hate-Bush Press’»

When reports of former press secretary Scott McClellan’s new book surfaced last week, Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly insisted there was nothing new in McClellan’s tell-all. “Forgive me if I’m bored,” O’Reilly said.

Last night, however, O’Reilly was fired up for his interview with McClellan, joining other right-wing commentators in linking McClellan to “left-wing haters.” O’Reilly spent most of the interview angrily defending President Bush. He slammed McClellan for meeting with the “pure Bush-haters” at NBC and for sitting by while they “just raped the president verbally”:

– Now when you then come to the realization that what you write in your book as you see it is being used by people who absolutely want the worst for this country and for the administration, doesn’t that give you pause at all?

– The-hate-Bush press is using you, using you to humiliate the man and to imply to the world the man is dishonest.

You sat there while these people at NBC and some at CNN just raped the president verbally. Just killed him. And you sat there and you did not defend him. You didn’t do it.

Indeed, O’Reilly seemed most upset that McClellan had sat down with arch-rival NBC before coming on Fox News. (One source claimed O’Reilly first refused to host McClellan unless he was given McClellan’s first television interview, which instead went to NBC’s Today Show).

McClellan seems to have infuriated O’Reilly for running afoul of his cardinal rule: “You cannot be confrontational with the President of the United States.”

Transcript:

O’REILLY: OK. Now when you then come to the realization that what you write in your book as you see it is being used by people who absolutely want the worst for this country and for the administration, doesn’t that give you pause at all?

O’REILLY: The hate Bush press is using you, using you to humiliate the man and to imply to the world the man is dishonest.

O’REILLY: But you sat down in front of guys that you know are just pure Bush haters to sell your book.

O’REILLY: You sat there while these people at NBC and some at CNN just raped the president verbally. Just killed him. And you sat there and you did not defend him. You didn’t do it.

MCCLELLAN: I said he’s a good man. I still have personal affection for him.

O’REILLY: You said that, but you allowed them to do that in your presence. And I mean, to me, I mean he was your friend. He was a mentor. He employed you. You say in your book he’s not a bad man. He’s not a dishonest man. He’s not a venal man. We all know he made mistakes.

O’REILLY: I wouldn’t, because you know, Bush is not a bad man. You know him way better than I know him. He’s not a bad man. You know that.

O’REILLY: What has happened in your book, whether you made it — whether this was your intention or not, is that the people who hate President Bush, who want America — the world to see America as an oppressive, bad country, have seized upon your book, all right? And used that, talk about propaganda to say, see, even Scott McClellan, even his own guy says he’s an incompetent jerk, that he purposely mislead us, that he’s immoral.

O’REILLY: All right. I want everybody to make their own mind up.

O’Racist: …used by people who absolutely want the worst for this country and for the administration…

O’Racist, as a typical reich-winger, believes herr dubyah and the country are one-in-the-same. Sick and demented, but not unexpected.

  2. livelongandprosper Says:

And you sat there and you did not defend him. You didn’t do it.

    That’s because Bush is indefensible.

  3. Zooey Says:

We covered this at TheZoo as well.

Billo pops a vessel interviewing Scott McClellan

I wish Billo could get his eyeballs spinning to match his little pin head. :D

The putz oliar is an imbecile, and from the picture it looks like he’s having the big one.

  5. SWBob Says:

Let’s see how “repectful” O’Rielly is of the next Democratic President. Something tells me his rules will change dramatically to suit his personal agenda.

  7. Uncle Ho Says:

You can not be confrontational with the president of the United States

Oh yeah, get Bush in front of me and I will be in his face confrontational.

  8. leftzone Says:

It’s fun watching that noxious blowhard realise he’s becoming irrelevent..

  9. Zimzone Says:

This was high comedy at it’s best.
    First, ‘the facts’
Second, the concern of ‘how could you’.
    Then he got mad.

I hope people watching could clearly see what a sham Billdo is.
McLelland’s iconoclastic behavior is refreshing & entertaining.

  10. Mr. Evil Says:

Bill O’Reilly… who really cares? He adores Bush so much because he is exactly the same, petulant little child bullies.

  11. Zimzone Says:

1 more thing; will Tony Snow be next?

  12. regular_joe Says:

McClellan seems to have infuriated O’Reilly for running afoul of his cardinal rule: “You cannot be confrontational with the President of the United States.”

Hmmmm. Good to know. I’ll encourage everyone to remind BillO of this rule when there’s a Democrat in the White House.

Or could it be that our friends here at TP have “inadvertently” misstated BillO’s rule? Not to put too fine a point on it, but I think the rule goes something like this: “You cannot be confrontational with the President of the United States if he’s a REPUBLICAN.”

    Hypocrisy, thy name is BillO.

  13. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

“You cannot be confrontational with the President of the United States.”

O’REILLY: OK. Now when you then come to the realization that what you write in your book as you see it is being used by people who absolutely want the worst for this country and for the administration, doesn’t that give you pause at all?

Why do Bush defenders insist that supporting the president is equivalent to supporting America, and that if you don’t support the president, you don’t support America? ARe they really that limited in their thinking?

O’REILLY: The hate Bush press is using you, using you to humiliate the man and to imply to the world the man is dishonest.

The man is dishonest, Bill. Do you actually believe that the president never once misled anyone about anything? Not even the firing of Donald Rumsfeld?

I predict that Fox “news” Channel will start calling for Congressional investigations into the new Obama Administration by the end of Feb ‘09 (and I’m being generous giving them that long.) How many investigations of the Bush Administration did they call for?

  17. tanglewood Says:

O’Really never lets the facts get in the way of his crazy-ass narative. One consolation is the majority of his viewership is the elderly and on any given day, he loses viewers because they die.

The man is a horses ass and an arrogant fool. It seems to me his mantra is don’t do as I do, do as I say.

One of the great moments on television was the night that Dave Letterman unloaded on O’Really and told him he was full of crap (I almost fell out of bed laughing) and Billo was bbbbbut…..bbbbutt., and then he went on a tear because he didn’t think he was treated fairly.

It is clear to anyone with an ounce of sense that regardless of his big contract at Fox, the guy is an insecure weasel who is dying to be accepted by the “cool kids.” He is beyond having contempt for, you have to pity him.

    .

Yet, Shill O’Liely can’t refute one iota of the claims against Bush… instead, he attacks Scott, the Disseminator of the LIE, McClellan and almost cries… “I wouldn’t, because you know, Bush is not a bad man. You know him way better than I know him. He’s not a bad man. You know that.” Shill O’Liely should have repeated it one more time, I almost believed him…

Yet, the president sat there while over 600,000 Iraqi’s, and over 4000 of our finest men and women, were killed, over mythical WMD.

    Oh, the irony.

Extreme patriotism and nationalism, unconditional support for the countrys leader, conflating the interest of the nation and the people with the interest of the administration, slamming all opponents and critics of the leader of being “haters” unpatriotic who wants the worst for the country

a clear case of fascism IMHO

  38. grover nerdkissed Says:

  39. Art Says:

I watched this interview with some amusement last night.
BillO was pontificating, accusing, baiting, and flapping all around, trying to get a rise out of Scott McClellan.
I have to hand it to Scotty. He appeared unflappable. He even had a sort of half smile after he realized that he had won the day.

  40. Dirty Hippie Says:

    Bill,

Playing the administration’s attack dog is pretty weak when NONE of the the FACTS have been disputed in McClellen’s book. Everything revolves around betrayal of a lying war criminal. Which makes you even more of a treasonous butt boy than you already are. Given the opportunity to confront Bush I would do what most pissed off Americans would do: wipe the floor with his ass.

  41. ninique Says:

what I want to know is why Mclellen would even waste his time with play-us-outO’Liar.

  42. Zimzone Says:

One thing not covered yet was Billdo’s claim of being a ‘journalist’…

That really cracked me up. A JOURNALIST!

Previous experience - Inside Edition. A knock off of ‘Current Affair’ starring the falafel fellow himself. An e-zine of the National Enquirer makes him a journalist?

O’Really is really, really desperate to gain headlines. His ratings are falling as fast as Bush’s disapproval ratings.

Chill, Bill. Obama will give you plenty of talking points…
    as PRESIDENT!

If we’re all lucky we’ll actually get to witness Billo’s head implode.. It’s so funny watching him trying to make this stuff up.. Him and Limburger need to do a show together..what a hoot…

  51. misshusseinmolly Says:

OK, I scanned the transcript, and I still can’t see any instance where O’Reilly claimed that McClellan lied. Nothing. The closest O’Reilly came to addressing the actual allegations at all was when he said “We all know he made mistakes,” which I took to mean that O’Reilly was conceding that at least some of McClellans allegations were true.

Mistakes? Is that what O’Reilly calls lying to get us into a war? Making a mistake? No. Confusing Slovenia with Slovakia was a mistake. Lying to get us into a war had to have taken some cold, calculated planning. Asking the PressSec to lie is a deliberate act. Running an administration that commits criminal acts with impunity could hardly be called a mistake.

I wonder if O’Reilly was quite so charitable with Bill Clinton’s sexcapades with Monica.

  52. WaltB Says:

I’m seriously ashamed that his name is O’Reilly seems to be of Irish lineage. Makes me want to claim to be Albanian instead.

  57. StratRat Says:

O’reilly is pretty much like Bush: a failed wanna-be living in a world where most anything is smarter than they are. Both have low self-esteem issues and over compensation struggles. Both are whoring out their reputations to be thought of as relevant. Both are going in the trash heap of history.

Olbermann is a titan, O’reilly is a WATB. I like that ‘balance’. You should too.

  67. TheToonGuy Says:

Good grief, Bush is the President, not Emperor of the United States. He works for We, the People. No one has to kiss his ring or anything else.

We need to keep these records of Bill demanding deference to current President that he has such a huge man crush on and play them back to him when he shows even the slightest disrespect to the next Democratic leader.

  68. Doc Rock Says:

O’Reilly’s just one of those spin room fils de joie!

  69. nanlichi Says:

Ohh the righteous indignation! How dare anyone imply that Billo’s God and Personal Savior was dishonest? This is too funny to watch!

Billo, here’s a clue for you buddy, Bush is a fcking loser, a liar, and hated by 70% of Americans. No one is “implying” that he is dishonest, we are out and out saying that that POS is a liar.

I have more respect for road killed coyotes than that petulant punk.

  70. trollsbwild Says:

Billo almost had another “F it”moment last night. Watching him have a meltdown is not unlike that part of the wizard of oz- “pay no attention to the man behind the booth”.
The truth is that we did support Bush at 9/11. His abuse of power justifies our reaction. Progressives are not the enemy of the state, rather those who appease naked totalitarianism are our biggest enemy.

  71. margerine Says:

It doesn’t bother O’Reilly in the least that the president has “raped” this country literally.

If the press actually hated Bush like O’Reilly believes, Bush would have been impeached and tried for war crimes a long time ago.

    ________________________________________________

I’m not sure what you mean by “a man amongst men, an influential guy” — but I’m assuming that you are attempting to be complimentary without getting into specifics.

If what Scott McClellan says is true, Bush and Cheney lied to the American people to get our country into a war. I take it that you have no problem with that? Would this have been OK if a Democratic president had done this? Or is it only OK if a “man amongst men, an infuential guy” does it?

I have a feeling that Scotty is just the start of the parade. As the GOP crumbles to ruins as a direct result of Bushco’s policies, more and more refugees from the cabal will be writing books and speaking up. And you will probably be holding your hands to your ears and singing, “la la la I can’t hear you!” as long as you can.

Someone better search him in FOX World HQ for weapons come Super Tuesday in November. Billo will not be politically humbled, humiliated and lose in the ratings on the same day without internal casualties to follow and a hilarious YouTube recounting of events that show yet another classic Mt. Billo eruption!

  97. Cal Malenky Says:

Every guest on BillO’s show is merely a springboard for Bill to hit his talking points. He doesn’t care what the guests have to say, he doesn’t listen to anybody and when they piss him off he tells them to SHUT UP.
McClelland had no chance to get a word in edgewise beyond repeating his personal affection for the boy king. Filibuster Bill did all the talking.

  98. Sharkie Says:

I think O’Reily meant to say that he raped him orally (not verbally) or at least that is what Bill fantasizes about.

  99. pete Says:

Perhaps this has been addressed? I just skimmed the thread.

What Bill0 and his ilk fail to realize is that most Americans want the same thing for the Administration and the country. Justice.

Justice can only be served when the principals are compelled, one way or another, to tell the truth. Telling the truth about the criminal acts of an administration, regardless of justification, is one’s patriotic duty. And to besmirch the first Bushite to tell the truth, when no one dares attack his statements, is juvenile schoolyard name-calling. Just the kind of irrational, un-American, raving Bill0 does best.

  100. pete Says:

Oh! BTW. Just in case a troll, or Bill0 himself, happens by: no one has the right, or wisdom, to decide another’s feelings for this country. And so long as enemies of freedom, like yourself and pathetic minions, enforce loyalty to a criminal administration? We deserve the contempt and enmity of the Free World.

I find this realization distasteful because I love my country. But, I sure have learned to hate the crimes perpetrated in our names, and the guilty parties responsible. Outside the government itself, Mr. Bill O’Reilly is one of the arch fiends. And, soon enough, he will be relegated to the obscurity reserved for yellow journalists throughout time. Unless he achieves a bigger footnote by dying in a cell, where he was placed by the very “ideals” he worshiped and sought to impose.

Times are changing and the bloviating gasbags of the New Reich are losing it. It’s often unpleasant to watch them eat their own, no matter how much they deserve it. But, I have a feeling that Bill0 will prove amusing, if aggravating, right up until they haul him off the air, frothing at the mouth, and away to a “treatment facility”. Popcorn is still cheap. Stock up and enjoy the inevitable meltdown.

  101. sectionop92 Says:

I think Billo is frustrated and with him taking a vow of abstinence in silent support of Bush’s policies, has him more “testy” than usual.

  102. shaun Says:

i watched the interview and thought mcclellan did ok - billo was busting for a brawl and scotty stayed pretty cool and didn’t take o’reilly’s bait - my favourite part, and i hope that everyone else caught this as well, was when billo was trying to slap him about wmd’s and how the rest of the world also believed saddam had them to which mcclellan emphasised that the main concern was that saddam might have been trying to develop nuclear weapons - bill then interrupted and said something along the lines of “….we’re not talking about nuclear weapons - let’s stay with the wmd’s….”!!! - mcclellan then reminded bill that nukes are also wmd’s - THAT was f**king priceless!!!!

  103. sacopenapa Says:

Being gay is not a problem… but, does O’reilly have a *crush* on Bush? You know… kind of fancing kinky FACIST uniform and rough play…

  104. christopher wiwi Says:

Still no one in the media has asked if Scotty was lying or said he was lying, how come?

Hey Billo, why didn`t you ask the hard and obvious questions? Instead you defended the SHRUB like the reich wing boot licker you are.

  105. LibertyLover Says:

O’Reilly … slammed McClellan ….for sitting by while they “just raped the president verbally”:

Bush has been raping the country for 7+ years. But the last I checked, speaking the truth can hardly be considered rape.

Then again, Billo would know about verbal rape, wouldn’t he? Just as Andrea Mackris.

  106. LibertyLover Says:

    ask*

  107. Bozo The Neoclown Says:

With a little luck, this issue which apparently “bores” the likes of o’lielly will cause him to have a massive stroke on air one of these days when he gets all whipped up about the issue for the 45,928th time.

  108. skeletonman Says:

Bill-O has an Axis II disorder
