In a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey today, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, calls on the Justice Department to turn over FBI interviews of President Bush and Vice President Cheney taken during the course of the Libby investigation. From Waxman’s letter:
The interviews with senior White House officials also raise other questions about the involvement of the Vice President. It appears from the interview reports that Vice President Cheney personally may have been the source of the information that Ms. Wilson worked for the CIA. Mr. Libby specifically identified the Vice President as the source of his information about Ms. Wilson. None of the other White House officials could remember how they learned this information.
New revelations by former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan raise additional questions about the actions of the President and the Vice President. Mr. McClellan has stated that “[t]he President and Vice President directed me to go out there and exonerate Scooter Libby.” He has also asserted that “the top White House officials who knew the truth — including Rove, Libby, and possibly Vice President Cheney — allowed me, even encouraged me, to repeat a lie.” It would be a major breach of trust if the Vice President personally directed Mr. McClellan to mislead the public.
Waxman requests that Mukasey provide the FBI interviews to the committee by June 10. Read the full letter here.

A letter to Mukasey? Yeah, that will surely do the trick…
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:02 amHow many letters does everyone think it’s gonna take before the FBI and Mukasey finally say a resounding, “What part of NO do you not understand”?
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:02 amIn other news, Ranting Tommy calls for donations to Ranting Tommy.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:03 am(as long as we’re calling for things that won’t happen)
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:03 amCheney responds by telling Waxman to go f*** himself…….
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:06 amCongress responds by doing nothing
What Congress needs to do is to subpoena McClellan. He’d probably show up — if he told the truth in his book, he has nothing to be afraid of by being under oath.
Then they need to subpoena EVERYBODY McClellan implicates, and employ inherent contempt for anyone who doesn’t comply — even the Vice President.
Of course, this could easily lead to the impeachment of Cheney, and we all know this is off the table, so I’m not holding my breath.
I just hope that President Obama and our new supermajority Democratic House and Senate will do a better job of keeping our government from being a total joke.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:07 amDear Mr. Waxman, I am in total agreement that your sternly worded letter is the right response and trust that AG Mukasey will do the right thing and produce those interviews. I am adding my letter as an addendum to spur the Attorney General to act in accordance with his responsibilities. I am sure that the addition of this letter coupled with your own will certainly turn the tide and we will get to the bottom of this sordid tale. Mr. Mukasey has ALWAYS been forthright and honest, and the force of our two letters will demand that he respond with our requests. Perhaps I can talk to Chuck Schumer to see if he’ll get his old buddy to do what is right.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:08 amWhen Obama is elected, the world will let out a collective sigh of relief.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:09 am.
As KKKarl would say, “I don’t know what they insist on keeping seecret if they SAY they have nothing to hide.”
.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:09 amBy the way, read the article in Rolling Stone about the jerk Reid and his ineffectual lead of the Senate. And also by the way, Chuckles Schumer will NEVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER get my vote again…
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:10 amSlightly O/T but does anyone here know of ANYTHING that Mukasey has done since becoming the Attorney General? I mean besides being a firewall for the Administration has he done any actual work (aside from hanging a picture of George Orwell in his office to whack off to). What are my tax dollars paying this guy for besides giving Congress(which directly represents the American people) the finger?!?!
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:12 ammisshusseinmolly says;
………..this could easily lead to the impeachment of Cheney
______________________________________________________________
only in your wildest dreams. the Dems can’t find any balls to conduct ANY investigation let alone impeachment. And Rethugs will fight tooth & nail every millimeter of the way
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:12 amWe have learned nothing new. Bush and Cheney - as well as the majority of their cronies - are liars, war profiteers, war criminals, looters of our national treasury, thugs, traitors, con men, and sociopaths.
You don’t need the dog that did the deed to confirm that there’s sh*t on your shoes.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:19 amMr. Libby specifically identified the Vice President as the source of his information about Ms. Wilson. None of the other White House officials could remember how they learned this information.
Only in this administration do officials get “selective amnesia”. Maybe they had a shocking experience that caused the partial loss of memory.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:22 amOh, yeah. Good luck with that, Rep. Waxman.
*eyeroll*
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:26 amgo get ‘em Waxman…..but getting anything from coke bottles Mukasey would be a minor miracle.
thanks Schumer!
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:26 amThe Democrats have put themselves into an impossible situation. Their fear of creating a constitutional crisis and their fear of adverse political reaction to an impeachment proceeding led to inaction. Now, we are in the midst of the presidential campaign. Impeachment action against the president at this point would indeed look politically motivated. However, the failure of the Congress to take decisive political action threatens our democratic institutions. I am not sure how we can get through this period with our country intact. If the Democrats win, there must be a full investigation into the allegations of past misdoing. It must be intense, public and with appropriate consequences for those who were guilty. Even that will have adverse political consequences.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:27 amHenry is not wrong to ask, but the DOJ is rigged with MuKasey. Better to wait until January, 2009 if a Democratic POTUS is in office. Then the fur will fly!
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:29 amWow, still no donations to Ranting Tommy, I better write a sternly-worded letter!
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:30 amQuickly my two cents, as much as we would like to see Congress bring impeachment proceedings against the President, there will be none. The Bush Administration still holds too much power and all efforts would be thwarted, there are not enough votes to convict. This is reality. Hopefully there will be a massive political change in November and the wrongs created by this administration will be undone and all the lies exposed once and for all. May the entire truth be uncovered, then maybe justice can be had.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:40 amRemember, Libby’s title included being assistant to the President, as well as being the VP’s chief of staff.
Hurray that the Mustache of Justice rides again!
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:48 amWow, still no donations to Ranting Tommy, I better write a sternly-worded letter!
Are the donations for a legal defense fund? ‘Cause if it is then I’m in!
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:49 amShrub may have given the “order”, but there’s no way in hell it was his idea.
The man’s about as sharp as a bowling ball.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:56 amIt goes far beyond “a major breach of trust.” It is tantamount to suborning perjury.
But then again, Cheney is, by far, the most perfidious US government official of my life time — far worse than Tricky Dick’s VP, Spiro Agnew. Agnew was just another Republican criminal. Cheney is a War Criminal.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:57 amRanting Tommy,
I’ll be happy to give you my 2 cents…
McLelland, I beieve, had an actual epiphany since leaving D.C.
Let Waxman get him in to testify, as an earlier posted suggested. Do it now, while Scotty is still the flavor of the week. Make sure the testimony is broadcast to the public. And then…let Scotty go! Redirect him as necessary, record every word.
Then turn it into subpoenas or contempt, what have you. Claim Bush, Cheney & Rove have committed high crimes with treasonous behavior. SHOUT IT OUT.
Regardless of an outcome, it will have a huge negative affect on McSilly’s campaign, for starters.
Secondly, it will be recorded as history.
Lastly, it will open the door for President Obama to do a real investigation with real consequences.
Hey, it’s a start…
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:04 pmDo you suppose that Bush is going to issue a “PRE-DATED”
PARDON to ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL members of his
administration for actions during their service???????????
If NOT, do you think that the NEXT POTUS could borrow some
testicals from someone and instruct the new Attorney General
to “find ‘em, and fry ‘em”.
COME ON . . . . . .
Alllllllllllll these guys (and gals) are cut from the same cloth.
DANCE ON AMERICA . . . .

June 3rd, 2008 at 12:09 pmMUKASEY FORM LETTER
Dear AG Mukasey
I again am looking into dirty dealings in the Bush administration. I am writing you this sternly worded letter so that you will have time to come up with a good excuse to not turn over evidence or allow anyone to testify. Also, this sternly worded letter should give your department time to destroy any important evidence that you might have missed in earlier cleansings.
I look forward to your bogus reply based on no law but one that sounds good on the news networks. I will keep tuned to Fox to see what you have come up with.
Please let me know if you need more time to destroy evidence or come up with a suitable scape goat. If needed I can postpone any hearing for a few more months.
Sincerely yours,
You compliant Democratic friend… (OFFICIAL TITLE HERE)
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:21 pmWaxman is one of the few (handful of) democrats with the guts to push for these investigations and for impeachment. He is a cosigner for the now benched impeachment of Cheney.
It is just plain sad that most of the rest of the Democrats are spineless yellow cowards or Bush crotch-sniffing lapdogs that roll over on queue.
Hopefully the new majority next Jan. can shame the **censored** Bush lapdogs that are left into doing the right thing eventually. If we can get rid of Nancy “Table Phobic” Pelosi that is.
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:27 pmI just want to know if Bush sat on Cheney’s lap when Cheney had his hand up Bush’s backside making his mouth move.
June 3rd, 2008 at 1:09 pmLOL, I have a feeling that pigs will fly before anyone ever gets to see the REAL papers (not the made up ones that will been seen) since Coverup is Dictator Bushes favorite game.

With all due respect to Rep. Waxman, it is time to stop requesting that the executive branch of these United States comply with the demands of Congress.
The Congress must demand that the executive branch complies.
And if it still does not, then according to Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S.Constitution, “The Congress shall have the power…To make rules for the government and regulation of the land and naval forces” and “To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.
Exposing a CIA agent is treasonous and compromises the safety of the United States and it’s people. Not to mention a laundry list of possible “other high crimes and misdemeanors”.
The Congress has the power to remove the President and Vice President and should move to do so regardless of how many months are left in this administration’s term or how it will look or if it will seem to be politically motivated.
It is in the best interest of this country and her people that the President and Vice President be removed from office.
June 3rd, 2008 at 3:05 pmI hope it was a registered letter.

Excuse me, it is called conspiracy to commit a felony. The felony is the lying to Congress that Scooter and Karl were doing.
Puleeze, it is a clear unadulterated violation of law. Why do you think Scottie was and is so perplexed by it.
Subpoena him and give him TOTAL IMMUNITY. What could ha have done that would be so bad, not to give him immunity? He is the crevice to crack this thing W-I-D-E open.
And Wexler while you are at it, please ask fo the transcript of Preeznit Cheney and junior dicnkledoofuss’ collabotative “deposition” on 9/11. I would like to read that too. I mean while we are asking for the sky, hey why not go for it all.
